I really don't get these folks. What do they think they're going to learn from all this? We've been telling them what's wrong with the game since the begining, through every phase of it. They didn't listen to us then, they sure as hell aren't listening to us now. So I'm like, scratching my head here... what do they think they're gonna gain from all this?
IMHO, they need stop it with the silly stupid spin games they're playing and either 1) Make the game that I bought and payed for 2 years to play, or 2) STFU and pull the damn plug already.
I'm totally sick of all this.

It has nothing to do with 'connecting with the fanbase'. It's a PR stunt to show that the Devs are 'in touch' with the fanbase on such a level, that they tour the country talking with them. To us Vets it's obviously crap. but to the poor slobs that just bought the Starter Kit or are interested it will seem legit.
Remember that they could give a squirt what we the vets and refugee's think. it's about attracting the WoW crowd now to them. They have $ $ in their eyes.
Sadly they don't realize that WoW is so big becuase of who they are and the game they made. Something which SOE will never understand much less actually do.
EQ was a fluke. It was the right game at the right time and there was no other game in town (Other than UO). They will never recapture the EQ magic. Ever.
I'm guessing they are looking for some sort of validation. Being you need to pre-register i'm sure they will pick their audience accordingly. They asked for people to submit questions so they have an idea of whats coming. It will be more spin than anything else, with the "vocal minority" still causing all the problems. I cannot possibly see anything good at all coming from these meet and greets. As 4 million other peoplehave been stating... If they would jsut read their own forums they would see tons of posts about how to improve the game, all 3 versions at that.

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

What am I missing? They are asking for questions on a special temp forum for the Summits. Err UMMM - Why not just answer the questions there for ALL to see and save the TIME and MONEY of the summits?
Wharton grads they are not. In addition to a few others. LOL

Hi all,
well it looks like SOE is up to it old tricks. In order to register for the meetings / summits you have to be a paying member of SWG to get in So either they will have mostly people who are currently in the game that like it or they get to claim Vets are coming back because they have a recent increase in subscriptions [ie join to get registered to the meeting...lol] . So, I'm kind of with you on what is the point in going. However I do hope there is enough of us Vets and refugess to go just to get our voice heard and to make everyone know how much better the game was. Also just to confront them on what they did. I was toying with the idea of going but I have to work, which brings up another odd thing, why didn't they schedule this on a Saturday so they could have more attend [hmm I wonder why??....lol]. BTW here is the msg you get if your not a member.
We are sorry, but registration for the Fan Fest has been limited to Station Members with valid player accounts only.

You know what would really burn their bacon, but would be really silly to do over a game...

Meeting and talking to people in person is always better then making posts on the internet. It gives a personal touch, and you can read peoples body laguage (which is equally important as the words being said).

That is a valid point, I just wish it was open to everyone who is or had played the game. I also wish I could go just to talk and see how they justify doing what they did. To be honest I almost hope they make a good announcement here or after the tour and say they are going to have someone develop and host a pre-cu SWG and that SOE will continue with the NGE and console dream...lol

LMAO!
Typical SOE tactic. This move more or less ensures them, that only the "followers" are allowed to attend. It's gonna be a huge (not really, since the NGE playerbase is too young to travel alone:-P ) "YES!! HALLELUHJA!! PRAISE SOE!!" kind of gathering. SOE know that the majority of the players want pre cu back and would love to tell them so in person. If I lived nearby, I'd re-sub for a month, only to get access to the "fan" fest and tell then what I think about their customer treatment.

Why SHOULD they let those who don't play anymore attend the summits? Summits for any company are generally only for their userbase, if you're not playing you're not part of the userbase.
Actually, in a recent post on the forums, the majority of the people there are actually over 20
To get some input and feedback from others than the NGE cult....? I've seen a lot of good suggestions from anti NGE players but they've just been ignored. Then the appropriate name should be "Userbase fest" and not "Fan fest." I'm still a SWG fan even if I'm not playing anymore. In fact, I'd think the greatest SWG fans are the ones who quit when the NGE hit. One would think the devs would be interested in hearing the "other side" in a discussion about the game. Having a one sided discussion is fruitless but very much in the NGE spirit though.

I haven't been able to figure out the why on this either, but fueled by my uber coffee, I have a thought:
They are referring to these events as Fanfests. It makes sense they will control the format and time allotted of the meeting to the max. So they will show video clips of where they're going and what is coming up "in 2006 and beyond". They will have a compilation of questions and some answers from the player base that they spend time talking about (no q and a, just presentation). A short amount of time is allotted for back and forth Q and A, then off to dinner! Crowd control, feed them pretty pictures then give them food.
/pats player base on head. Good doggies.
Athela
Exactly !
When Lucas Art called in for their last survey, they wanted exactly the NON-Nge lovers, they wanted to find out WHY the vets left and under which circumstances they would come back.
If SoE wants customer back you need to ask the ones who LEFT...not the ones who stayed !
Thats kind of...mastabating....
Claude
Like Phos and X....already said, i agree:
player say "AWESOME, WE LOVE YOU DEVS, GO GO GO !!!!"
and SoE says "see ? The players know...."
player say "That sucks, screw it blablabla""
and SoE says what Duncan's sig is reading: "Players dont know but we do, get used to it you WILL like it"
So yes, its not about the opinion of anyone its just about validating (or "correcting" incase of disagreeing).
A VERY bad "discussion-culture" and something the customer department of such big company should not be like, under no circumstances.
What REALLY baffles me is the fact, that there are SO many customers totally sick of the NGE but STILL paying SoE. They whine in their forums and beg for changes - but arsed for like 3 years now. And STILL not cancelling.
Sometimes you wonder if they dont get it, that the wallet is the only language SoE understands.
If you really want changes, let them alone with their NGE crap.
When the last Tailor has cancelled and the last ship landed - they might get an idea...
But even with a customer base dropped to like 40K (?) they still are selfconvinced how good their NGE is.
Really, we need electroshocks here...ASAP ! ....
Claude
LOL. Ya, so like 0.1% of the player base will be able to see that "body language". Not to mention even hear the answers. Now, if they had a web cast of the summits.....
OTOH, if they would allow ex-players to attend, there would be some interesting body language directed at the Devs.

That's another thing, the internet allows you to be anonymous and makes throwing out threats of abuse and what not very easy. I bet 99% of those people that are posting those sorts of threats wouldn't even say stuff like that face to face

Because they wont make any money out of it if they let anyone come. They are hoping people will resub for at least a month in order to come. i dont remember the past fan fest requiring a current subscription, just a registration fee. Its just all readly stupid. They had to do something to react to all the bioware rumors that showed they were in for the long haul and this is what they came up with. I think it would be better if no one showed up at all, because you know its all going to be a bunch of fluff and the only way you'll talk to a dev is to submit your questions for screening.
For the Horde!
You can get a clear message across without using abusive language or making threats. In fact, it makes a stronger impression if you are articulate and determined, rather than spitting out F words all the time.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid!
SOE knows what you like... You don't!
And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
Atlanta, Ga. - Sony Online Developers announce first fanfest a rousing success. John Smedley, CEO of SOE said "The whole room was filled with Galaxies fans, all cheering out new game improvements. It felt really good to meet the people who love what we do everyday." He added smiling, "I haven't been to a circlejerk like this since I pledged a fraternity."
The scene was serene inside the tiny confrence room, yet the scene outside told a different story. Riot police arrested 30 of the over 2000 people who call themselves the "SWG Refugees" who had stormed the Airport Sheraton hotel, burning cars and waving pitchforks and signs reading "Smed is EVIL" and "Roll Back".
Smedlay said as the team were airlifted off the roof of the hotel that the group was "unrelated" to Star Wars Galaxies, and the fact that they use the letters "SWG" is an unfortunate coincidence.
