ROFL.  What in the world was the author smoking?  This system is DOA.  Anyone notice how the PS Vita faded into the sunset?  I don't see this system being any different.  They are just not going to attract enough developers to write good games for it.

It will sell for nostalgia purposes only.  I just don't see kids being that interested in this there are so many good tablet games out there for a lot less than console prices.  Not something a developer wants to hear.

About the only thing this article was worth while for was a good laugh.

They failed me with the Wii U. Why would I buy this? No thanks.

Always thought they should merge their portables with their home consoles. Glad to see they're finally doing it. If they get third party support (which is looking promising), this will be a huge win for them, despite what the clueless naysayers and PC gaming master race elitists think.

I'd kill just to play my 3DS games on the big screen, and Switch is offering the best of both worlds. I will probably be buying one. Monster Hunter on my plasma? Oh hell yes!

AN' DERE AIN'T NO SUCH FING AS ENUFF DAKKA, YA GROT! Enuff'z more than ya got an' less than too much an' there ain't no such fing as too much dakka. Say dere is, and me Squiggoff'z eatin' tonight!

Seems a good idea, but there are a lot of things they need to solve to make it work. The biggest being the price and the power.

I don't really expect them to beat out latest consoles when it comes to graphics, but if it comes with less gaming power and worse graphics than what we are seeing on the latest mobiles(and the graphics in the trailer seem pretty unspectacular) why would people bother. They also have to do that at a price point much lower than what current mobiles cost, and lower than what other latest gen consoles cost, and probably not much more than what a 3DS costs.

Then there is the issue of it not really being a portable and a console, it is just a portable that you can connect to your tv, which incidentally isn't that special. You can't really market it is a console, because if one of your family members takes it with them as their portable, nobody at home is left with a console. It can't pull off both jobs unless you are the only gamer in the house, and the one gamer household isn't really a niche Nintendo has experience focusing on.

I grew up on Nintendo had most their products at one time but unfortunately the game line ups are really bad and childish. This system looks like a nuisance and paper weight like my Wii U has become.

Since this isn't aimed to be a replacement for the 3DS I'm skeptical of its success. I will probably get one but I'm not the average gamer. I don't see core PS or Xbox players ditching their system for this and I don't see this creating a new market. I smell another flop.

I don't buy that it's not. At least not yet. To me, it sounds more like PR assurances that their existing money maker isn't going anywhere for players still playing and buying games on it. A lot depends on that battery, but I could see Nintendo consolidating ecosystems.

I think a lot of people probably agree with this. They definitely have something to prove, which should be good if Nintendo rises to.

What stops literally ANY movement from destroying your 500$ console? Will a clip system we cant see in the commercial and pictures really stop it from falling out of our hands. Seeing as how the controllers release UPWARD I'm not super enthusiastic about that feature. (The console releases DOWNWARD.)

Also, what is with the BDSM fetish?

The Nintendo Switch sounds more like a punishment than a games console.

That said, Kudos on trying again Nintendo.

Unfortunately, I looked up the specs and it's pretty bad for a console. Compared to my PC it is pitiful. (But that is true of all consoles.)

Even if they are using the newer Tegra cores, as apposed to the Tegra X1, it is still a slow system with only 4 gigs of memory and a 2Ghz Quadcore. Might as well be a low end gaming laptop. Oh wait, it is.

Too expensive to let children use, too cheap of parts for adult gaming.

As a portable games console it looks like a win and since nobody seems able to establish a foothold in that market besides Nintendo, they'll probably sell Switches just fine.

I still cant get over that name though...

Can you play with the console in WiiU mode where the monitor has the game and then the console has other info, maps, and screens on it? That would be cool.
I don't think so.  Because the tablet part has to be inside the console stand thingy to play on the TV.
  • MrMelGibsonMrMelGibson Member EpicPosts: 3,039
I was very skeptical about this console.  Skeptical about Nintendo in general staying alive in the console business.  But, being a casual tablet gamer on the android market.  I can tell you that there are so many options out there, and even more RPGs.

If Nintendo is smart, they'll do their best to try and capitalize on this market.  If they can do their own IPs and also try to pick up where the Ouya left off.  They might actually crave out a different type of gaming market for themselves.  Just my opinion of course.

Yeah change the rpg landscape my behind...more like another flop and I am a big nintendo fan too.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

Nintendo would be much better off if they just made their games for other consoles.  They would make a lot more money doing so and would not be wasting their development and marketing funds on a console that is probably in a very small niche.

When your hardware is light years behind the competition it is time to move on.

Think I will just continue playing my GPD XD. Will just wait for Switch price to go down and have more games .

Pardon my English as it is not my 1st language :)

Most of the early reviews are mixed.  A lot of people don't like how small the controllers are and the three hour battery life is not good.  Most people will probably just attach a regular sized controller to it.  I don't like how that excellent screen disappears when you want to use it with a TV.

I don't think it's going to impact RGGs at all. For one thing Playstation, not Nintendo, is the RPG console. Nintendo doesn't even have a flagship RPG. They have core IPs with RPG titles, but not a singular RPG. They have solid classic RPG titles and a couple new ones, but nothing huge or key.

    But what about

The thing about Nintendo is, they aren't about the hardware as far as performance,  but they were always - ALWAYS - about finding new ways to play and interact with games.

The Switch is a progressions of it.. but it didn't start there:

And the list continues...  wiimotes,  balance boards... crazy peripherals for systems that were generally underpowered in comparison -- yet -- still considered "innovations" in their own right.

The Switch is just their latest attempt at a 'new way to play'.

While many people might agree with your sentiment, it may not work out as well as we would hope. Look at Sega when they dropped support for the Dreamcast and just focused on games. That hasn't worked out very well for them at all.

Granted, the Nintendo library of games is more robust and popular than the Sega library, but it would be a considerable risk to drop their console division entirely. No doubt their stocks would take a hit, and many would view the decision as a failure on Nintendo's part.

I'm not convinced they would turn out to be more profitable without their console division. Those who want to play Nintendo games need to have either their latest console or handheld. They have their own built-in fanbase that could also feel more betrayed for them giving up on their consoles.

This was one of my favorite RPGs and probably favorite Mario game of all time.  Always wished to see SE and nintendo do a sequel.  But I suppose we got the sub-par paper Mario series instead.

I would love to see another chapter or even a HD remake of Super Mario RPG.
