Months ago, I tried the BDO 7 seven day trial and was intimidated. So much so, I chocked it up to just being another Asian grinder and uninstalled.
Well last month when BDO went on sale for $10, I decided to give it another go and actually invest some time in researching game play elements. So glad I did as I have been playing it continually for weeks. So many different game play options. I'm now level 50 and really have only stayed in Olivia (my cooking and tool making HQ) and Velia (my Fishing and Trade empire). I have been taking my time and really enjoying what has been offered. Daum has also provided several free items (including premium) for its special event and even just for down time so I have been able to have fun with Boats, Horses, etc.
I don't think there is any argument on how beautiful BDO is, but what I really appreciate is the attention to detail. I still love how my character will turn to look at me in mouse view, how when it rains there are puddles on the ground and a sheen on my character, when I swim the camera comes out with water dripping from the view and even some of the NPC conversations I catch in the background.
I know many who have invested both time and money into the game will say I'm still in the honeymoon stage, and probably so, but for the amount of entertainment I've gotten so far, I consider this $10 well spent.
PS. I still have my three 7 day trial keys, so if anyone wants one, send me a pm.

I really love this game. And I love that there are so many things to do and I can do or "not do" any of them I feel like provided I'm clear that choosing to not do certain things means I need to find other ways to do things.
For instance, I just can't get into the whole production/crafting thing for money so I've been fishing and selling my drops which actually has been ok.
Last night I was about to buy a Ring of Shadows and thought "meh" I know where they drop and even though the mobs are grey to me I'll see if I can get one. And "YES" I did. And had a blast doing it.

My problem was when I wanted to start advancing beyond level 50. I just can't handle the grind. Sure the combat is fun (IMO) but still doing it for hours and hours to get xp, or to hope a certain item drops....it just drove me crazy.
I may go back to it and just focus on the non-combat stuff actually. There is a lack of MMO's in my life right now. I just really wish I could get into the PvP/Castle Siege aspect but the "cost" of entry (grind) is so high.

When I said level 50 I was referring to when I last played. It's not surprising that the soft cap has been increased.
That being said...whenever you reach that "soft cap" (whatever the number is right now, I guess 56) you hit a wall and it becomes much more difficult and time consuming to get past. What was once "fun" combat because painful and boring. The problem is, if you want to play the game for PvP just hitting the soft cap isn't nearly enough. Being 56 now I imagine is like being 50 back then. I would still get killed in a single shot by people in PvP. No amount of "skill" matters.
