What We May Hear About Diablo at Blizzcon

With Blizzcon 2016 ready to kick off with the opening ceremony just about 24-hours from now, and with recent Internet breathlessness over the “leaked” image showing both a male and female Necromancer as well as a year’s worth of job postings for an “unannounced Diablo project”, the hype for a possible major Diablo franchise announcement has reached heights it hasn’t in many years.

    Diablo 4 is more likely than an expansion. The job listing said "experience with PBR Workflows", only new generation games use that (like Overwatch) not old directx 9 games like D3.

    Diablo 4 or WoD would be nice, but i don't have my hopes up. So little time is slotted for Diablo at Blizzcon.

    A diablo mobile is what I'm betting on as well. "World of Diablo" is farfetched in my opinion. They still have World of Warcraft running, they wouldn't compete with themselves.

    Diablo mobile game would be the biggest let down and I'd rather hear nothing than have a watered down gameplay experience thrown into app stores. I'm thinking expansion with some graphics tweaks is more likely. Unless I'm completely opposite of most other gamers the Diablo fanbase has no care for a mobile game.

    They also definitely need to bring back the old classes Druid and Necromancer for sure. Crusader has been great but Druid is what I really long for.

    I'd rather get absolute ZERO about Diablo than a mobile game. Just NO in every possible human language.

    It depends on how they execute it of course. I mean, look at MU Origin, it did not disappoint, was made using Unreal4. There are other triple-a titles coming in mobile using Unreal 4 Engine.

    If those titles and companies can do it, why not Blizzard?

    Gameplay and controls are still shit on mobile regardless of engine. For me personally, there is never a situation where I would choose playing a game on a mobile device when I can just as easily sit at my pc or console and play.

    Blizzard was testing cosmetic stuff little back then? Maybe a D3 free to play? If it is D4 still be a long way off maybe 2 to 3 years and I'm not sure what a D4 will bring to the table that D3 still can do. Blizzard never was really in to making games with super awesome graphics for there game, only other option I can think of.

    If Blizzard were to remaster any of the old games (as mentioned by @SBFord ) they would use a PBR Workflow as in an engine like Overwatch.  I can see a company Updating their Textures and Models, based on original HD Assets.  This could save some time and money.  Reuse VO & Sound FX, port game play mechanics to a new Dx 11.3 & Dx 12 Graphics Engine.  I can see this being done with Warcraft 1, 2, & 3, Diablo 1 & 2, Starcraft  and even The Lost Vikings  =) .

    They get another wave of cash flow off of old IP.  New interest in old games, by new eyes.  They stress test new Engineers and Artist, before tasking them with development of new IP.  That's what I would do, or like to see.

    I would prefer a remake of Diablo 1, Warcraft 1-2, rather than just a graphics remaster. The gameplay is outdated and could use an entire overhaul. There are no cutscenes, just light story content throughout all of these games, and a re-dive back into the original lores warrants a thorough experience. Fleshing out characters and storylines that never received the justice that say War3, D2 and 3, and SC2 received. Besides, if we want a new Warcraft RTS, rehashing the old lore seems like the logical place to go, as advancing the Warcraft storyline is firmly in the hands of the WoW devs. Of course they could start at War of the Ancients, but then there would be no orcs, and what kind of Warcraft game would it be without orcs?

    They'll add Diablo and Starcraft universe to Hearthstone and change the name to Hearthstone: Heroes of Blizzard. ;)

    Bah. I'm still pissed that they killed Griswald.

    If they announced a Diablo 2 HD remake, I would be thrilled.

    If they announced a Diablo 4, it would just be decent news, as it most likely wouldn't be here for several years.

    If they announced a Diablo 3 expansion or new character, I would be bummed.

    If they announced anything related to console or mobile, I would be extremely bummed.
    If they announced a full-blown top-view hack-n-slash MMORPG with Angelic Vs. Demonic factions and World PvP, I would be like a kid on Christmas morning.

    My biggest dream: Ultimate Diablo: one game uniting all classes, zones, skills, skilltrees etc. from all Diablo games and expansions creating one massive hack n slash with the intense D3 combat but character development from D2.

    My second biggest dream: World of Diablo. I've posted this before but an MMO Diablo like how Hellgate: London worked. Only, much, much better of course. It could so work.....

    My somewhat realistic dream: A D3 Expansion featuring Necromancer and another layer of character development/grinding. Somehow I expect skills that can drop as loot, taking up 1 passive slot or something like that. Skills independant from class to make your character just a bit more versatile.

    My small fear: A D2 re-master.

    My big fear: A Diablo mobile game. Horrible in every conceivable way.

    Me giving up: A Diablo TCG or Collectable Game like Pokemon/World of Final Fantasy

    Time will tell if me and Blizzard are still buddies, definitely curious what they will announce.

    Edit: D4 is not on the list. Blizzard is extremely slow with full sequels, this would be way too fast, even as an announcement.

    'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless. 

    It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

    Warcraft 4 and Starcraft Ghost, now that would be something..

    They originally said Diablo 3 would get three expansions, and we've only had one so far...

    So... unless they're pulling a Bioware (hello Exalted March DAII expansion that never happened)... it's quite likely #2 is upcoming, since we've only had RoS so far.

    The official forums lean very heavily towards D3 expansion with Necromancer, at the very least, given the way things have been looking, as well as in-game tidbits, and Xul coming out for HotS. ...also I guess the obvious intentional leak of Necromancer art from the Blizz store. The hardcore kids have way more info on it than I do, but I agree, it makes the most sense.

    I'd like D4 tbqh, but the Blizzcon schedule has no room for a new game announcement, so, I won't be getting my D4 announcement this month. :|
