Stargate: Worlds - thoughts?

MisfitZMisfitZ Member Posts: 368
Fairly excited about this game...a friend of mine is working on it, and according to him, the game is progressing excellently. I'll talk to him, see what kind of info he can share about it.

Interesting idea for an MMo, no? Unlimited amount of material, since a Stargate could, potentially, go anywhere. I'm sure most of the races/cultures represented in the movie/show will be in it, but there's also enough free rein for the devs to add their own ideas.

I guess it's all in the implementation.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

It has a ton of potential for sure. While I enjoy the Stargate shows and the movie I'm not a diehard about it.
That said, an MMO world based in this universe is quite compelling for sure. As you pointed out there are so many places you can go.
We can only hope though that they don't drop the ball and only have like 6 planets or something dumb like SWG.

I'm guessing it's a level based system (Boohiss!) but if they do it right it could be very nice.

I have high hopes for the game and am keeping my eye on it. I'm definitely looking forward to more info coming out.

As AO grows long in the tooth there isn't another title that could step up and take the helm at the front of the SciFi genre. This could be the ticket. As previously mentioned, the stargate provides access to countless civilizations, technologies, and areas to explore. If they learn from others mistakes (cough..SWG..cough), this could be the next great MMO.

Whan I sow that this StarGate game I was happy that someone will make it in to MMO.

But I wont put my hopes up because it can disapoint us but I hope it wont.

But I dont think they will amke unlimitit planets at first they will make few like 10 to 20 and so on probablly but we will all see in time how they will make all this. I hope we will be able to travel whit space ships and stuf like that to not just true stargate.

But all that in good time ::::01::

I just hope that they actually recreate stargate well because I love the series and I hope that the game is a lot like it and not just using the name.

Love the series and look forward to the MMO. Hopefully they have cought the feel of team play and i also hope there will be sufficient PvE since i don't want to PvP all the time. I haven't read much about the game yet, is it going to feature a first person mode?

Even if they start out with 'only' 6 worlds the stargate system allows for many, many expansions.  In this game the expansions even make sense in the story line, not just another island magically appearing on your world map.

I support Belgiums efforts to get noticed ... at all.

Casual friendly, Powergamer run, all about pvp, or all about pve.  Whatever they do, this will be either be great, or trash. Not much room for middle ground.

I'm a little surprised they have annouced the Asguard as being a playerable race as the only time anyone has seen them in the show fight is using ships in space..  Which makes me wonder will this be including action above the planet?

Although the little grey guys are clones so that can work for respawning on death.

I agree you with 100%. If this game is done right and with all those damn knights and wizards fantasy MMORPGS out there, this could be the exit sign for a change in mmorpg.

I enjoy Fantasy MMORPGS, but when you got like hundreds of them out there, well, everything becomes the same.

This could be reconized as the sci-fi mmorpg to go to. As we all know SWG isnt in it glory days anymore, and SOE name is pretty much wrecked for now. Anarchy Online, even though this game was fun and probably still is, its becoming one of them out-dated games.

All we can hope for is games like Fallout or Star Trek Online (however if SOE has ties to this game, I will refuse to buy myself plus the game will lack good ole fashion PvP fighting)

We need a EXCELLENT SCI-FI MMORPG done right. People say Fantasy sells better than Sci-Fi MMORPGS.

But I believe, if you make any game, whether Sci-Fi or not and it is done right, well you will have a winner.

One thing they should keep in mind is to stay true to the series...

There is nothing worse than when you notice something is completely wrong..

(I've only recently accepted the name Sha're, instead of the original Sha'uri... i mean wtf was up with that?? anyway... no biggie)

Like if they would implement Daniel Jacksons parents as npcs or something...

I am a die hard SG1/Atlantis fan and I would be upset if they ruined the series with a subpar game.  With that said the game has to follow a strict timeline.  It should not be placed within the current timeline, but alos should not be placed to distant in the future.

After SG-1 ages and retires the SGC is eventually closed and the SG is no longer used (see the episode 1969); so too far into the furture would ruin the timeline.  However, if they use the current timeline, that would ruin the show itself.  There should not be any main characters in the game (Sam, Teal'c, Jack, Daniel, etc.) with the exception of characters that are already very old (certain goa'uld, tok'ra or asgard (such as loki or thor).

Just a few thoughts to start.

And we all know how Stargate Loves Time Travel

They have gone back, front, sideways and even Dodged Blackholes!!

Are we really watching the Original SG Team? Hmmm I wonder after Season 8, I think it was?

Professional Football on Sundays and College on Saturdays. And there are no fish in my Pond.. LOL

There was a Stargate Infinity as well, but it was a animated series from your Wiki site..

Stargate Infinity is an animated series that ran from September 2002 to June 2003. Even though the series was produced by MGM with DiC Entertainment, none of the writers and producers of Stargate SG-1 or other live-action Stargate projects were involved with Infinity. According to SG-1 co-creator Brad Wright, the animated series should not be considered official Stargate canon, although he says he personally does not "have a problem with it. I'm just not involved."[1]

Set about 30 to 40 years in the future, Infinity tells the story of a team of young recruits led by a veteran member of the SGC that are framed for a crime they did not commit. The team must travel from world to world trying to find a way to clear their name.

I'm pretty stoked on this game. However they do it I hope it comes out well.
  • BrencelJBrencelJ Member Posts: 9

nice number of people have post here so I see there is a lot of fans of SG-1/Atlantis outh there and I'm happy to her that:P.

Yea I realy hope they will stick to show reality. I hope they wont try to change caracters that they will be completly diffrent.

and another think I realy hope no one will be able to be any of the personal from the shows becosue that would be so wrong and un cool I hope that they will be NPC and that they will teach us how to play the game or even help us like in GW that you can chose them to help you do some missions (If your friends arent online at the moment or you are short of a player).

One thing you have to wonder is how the different galaxies will work. Just to get to Atlantis the SGC had to use a ton of energy and can now only travel there in one of their X-303s. This would kinda imply at least some space content. That and the preview kinda sounded like it would have at least a half twich combat system. As for leveling im hoping it will be more skill base then level. It would make more sense because you could then learn how to use tech then be a good gunman at the same time. This is rarely allowed in a level base system unless that is one of the classes. This also used to be one of the nice things about SWG when you could outshoot everything and still be a healer or something on the side. Now look at it, sad. Everytime I think about it I want to lead a major revolt against SOE and force them to restore the old ways. Let all us MMO and sci-fi fans hope that this won't be such a slowly dieing mmo.

"My true dream is to be an onmipotent jack@$$ and the best way is to make an mmo and use your abilities to act the part of a bored Jehovah."

SWG really didn't have as bad a rep as people like to think ;)  But, that said, I doubt most folks will be referring to StarGate Worlds as SGW... most folks I know are just calling it StarGate or StarGate Online... SGO sounds cooler anyway.

Yep I'm excited too. It has one of strongest franchise potentials for a MMO in years. Hopefully it wont be stuffed up like other franchised MMO's

The possibility to expand far beyond the SG series is a bonus too, where the series is limited to what and where they go due to budget they don't have those limitations in the development of the greater SG universe.

I'm sure we'll be seeing a large number of new exotic place, cultures and enemies :)

It will also be a test of Big World technologies and their growth and scalability.
