Last night, Monday 3rd April 2006, was a very important night for Final Fantasy fans. The US Premiere of the long awaited Final Fantasy VII: Advent Childrenwas shown at the Arclight Cinerama Dome in Hollywood. This was the
first time the film had been seen in English, after it's Japanese
release last year.
As any hardcore Final Fantasy fan will know, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is set two years after Final Fantasy VII for the PSX, and briefly explains the storyline of Final Fantasy VII for those who played the game; before diving into the full Advent children
storyline.
*Possible spoilers*
"Tifa and Cloud opted for a peaceful life where they run a delivery
service and take care of children orphaned by the previous disaster.
However, all is not well. A mysterious illness called geostigma has
been affecting the children. A new gang run by Kadaj seeks to find
Jenova and it’s up to Cloud to reunite with his friends to stop the
utter destruction of the world again."
Advent
Children features some great action scenes, including motorcycle and
aerial combat - and not to mention a brilliant Sword fight between
Cloud and Kadej. There are a few differences between the Japanese and
the US versions, most notably the character voice overs, with a
completely new voice cast featuring in the US version.
Some
lucky Final Fantasy fans even managed to grab some freebies, such as
PSP accessories and Calendars, and are probably at the envy of every
other Final Fantasy fans right now. For anybody that wasn't lucky
enough to be at the premiere, Final Fantasy VII: Avdent Children goes
on sale April 25th on both UMD and DVD .

starting a new journey may not be so hard,
or maybe it has already begun.
There are many worlds,
but they share the same sky --- one sky, one destiny.

and unless your a final fantasy fan like me, stay away from it.
lets start with the good part.
the animation is very well done and sometimes its hard to see your looking at an animation instead of a real movie. the action scenes are brillaint but also comes with a negative thing. they are way unrealistic and over the top. The battles will remind you of Dragon Ball Z. the characters can jump enormous distances and do incredible things. the bad part of this is that it doesn't stay loyal to the final fantasy 7 game, as the characters couldn't do those things in that game (or at least not as that style, as all the limit breaks are in the movie)
the bad part: the story
oh..my....god. I have seen a lot of movies with bad stories in it, but non as bad as Final Fantasy 7 AV's. there is a terrible dissease going on and everybody in midgard gets sick. then suddenly the bad guys show up, kidnap all the children by promosing them a cure to try to bring back Jenova. but fear not, as Cloud, who is painted as a despressed Rambo who looks like he is about to commit suicide, will come and save the day.there are a few tweaks here and there in the story, but without spoiling things, thats the story in a nutshell. the rest is just plain action scenes. the story is a major dissapointment, as ff7 was outstanding for its story.
the action scenes make up for the bad story, but if you want to buy the movie for the story, then your in for a great dissapointment.
If thats all you got out of the story then Lol.
This will have spoilers.
Ok, the disease geostigma did make a bunch of people sick. Unfortuantely thats about where your example ends correctly. The bad guys don't just show-up, they're spirits, infact, they are sephiroth's spirits, and their goal is to find jenova and all merge into one being (Being sephiroth). Shinra corp knows of their goals so they take Jenova and hide it from them. They know they cant do it alone, so they ask Cloud to help them. Cloud is not suicidal, he is depressed that he has a disease and he lives a boring life as a delivery man. So basically it's Shinra+Cloud trying to stop Loz, Yazoo, and Kudaj from getting Jenova, whom they refer to as "Mother". Basically, in a "Nutshell" (I hate that word), they are trying to bring sephiroth back to life so that he can take over the world, destroy all mankind, and use the planet as a spaceship to drift in space untill they find their "Heaven". So it's heaven vs. hell. Cloud vs. Sephiroth - Granted they did skip around alot in the movie, the story was there, and it did complete from where FF7 left off, though they did leave a space open for another sequal.
I'm honestly not bashing anyone, I'm just saying it's hard to find why you said the story isnt there when it was. You may have to play and beat FF7 to get 90% of whats going on, but either way it was a cool movie. Way better then spirits within..

I did understand the entire movie, but I didn't want to release any spoilers. one person taking over the world is a very old concept by now, but I don't think they put it well together. "spirits of sephiroth" who made that one up? I think the movie could be so much more but meh..it was a dissapointment.
FF7 didn't really have a plot though, it was just one continous cliche, and if you have a literature background Advent Children is just as cliched.
I don't understand why FF7 has such the following when other FFs have such better storylines. The transformations of Ceid etc.
Also, the graphics were pretty amazing for the time, which drew most those players in to get the game anyways, even though they had little clue what an Rpg was. Also, the character design is something which most people in their teens would call "Zomgroxxor" or something like that, and it makes them think they're much better characters than they really are, like Sephiroth for example, who many say is one of their favorite characters, even though he has the personality of a peice of driftwood.
a video game movie with a bad plot? LIES!
It may just be that I had to watch it again to catch the little details, but the audiences response was overwhelmingly positive (I personally think they did a supurb job trying to condense what could have easily been a 20+ hour story into a reasonable 2 hour film).
