For those no longer or never played WoW, what could they do to get you subbed?

TheScavengerTheScavenger Member EpicPosts: 3,321
Is there anything Blizzard could do to make you come back or, at very least, sub to the game for a month?

There is a lot of posts around the internet of people that used to play WoW, and just don't like it anymore.

Outside of changing the game completely (which would really be WoW 2), is there anything they could do to bring you back to WoW? Or is WoW done and over with, and no matter what they added or changed would they not be able to bring you back or to subscribe to?

Played it for 3 weeks. The only thing Bli$ard can do is ban anyone under 21 from playing...ever.

You seem to be on a WoW tear lately with these posts, but, hey, I'll try to  answer your question.

I first started with Runescape, then Guild Wars, and landed in LOTRO.  Before online gaming I imagined some day playing in a Middle Earth fantasy world so LOTRO was an easy choice.  It was only years later after playing LOTRO I tried WoW during a Christmas sale.  As mentioned elsewhere, I was impressed how stable and smoothly the game ran.  The story and lore, which are what interests me in fantasy worlds, didn't leave much of an impression.  Sure, you can say LOTRO copied so much from WoW , but I had been playing LOTRO for years so the game didn't feel exciting or different. After a month or so I went back to LOTRO. If you want to play a quest driven themepark type game WoW still remains a good choice, however.  Not sure I would ever return but maybe.

Remake with a new engine. Get rid of tab targeting. Add a block button. Go back before Cata and build on the old world.

Ah, yeah the community is pretty bad on certain servers. The RP ones are a lot better, but you still have that one...nasty moonglade server I think is the server name. Or moonglow or something. The PvP servers are terrible overall though.

Not too different though than most MMOs. But even EVE has older people playing it, and it has the nastiest community of any MMO. And its not filled with kids, just nasty people. GW2 actually has an awesome community surprisingly though.

But I agree, most servers, WoW isn't a very friendly place, its like EVE-lite, full of trolls and memes.

Though I don't think age as much to do with it. GW2 is filled with kids, but its a far nicer environment overall than most WoW servers, and EVE is filled with adults, but the nastiest community I've ever been in.

They could drop the sub and move to a B2P model, I might give it a shot then. There's some changes to the game I'd like to check out, but I just don't see the point in paying a recurring fee for a single game.
Actually, Blizzard probably WILL do this one day. Usually this happens when the company loses a lot of subs or popularity of an MMO. And buy to play (like ESO went to), tends to boost activity A LOT and massively increase cash in flow. Not always though, a lot of MMOs that went free didn't do that great (mostly because their free/cash shop model).

But ESO is an awesome payment model, and you still have an option to subscribe for a bunch of goodies. I can definitely see WoW doing something like ESO, and being very successful at bringing people in.

They can't do anything for me. I love the Warcraft lore but i don't like renting game time. I buy one month when a new expansion comes out to play the new story, that's it. If i don't finish the story in that month i buy another month some time before the next expansion releases to catch up lorewise. I don't play WoW for any other reasons so i don't need to resub every month. I actually would be happier if they give WoW gametime instead of monkey pets and crap for purchasing special editions of their other games.

Lets see, take itself more seriously, make the entire game a challenge. No challenge content = boring (to me anyways) so I don't enjoy anything the game has to offer other than heroic dungeons / raids. All that beautiful overworld content, questing and what could be a fun journey from one all the way to 110 is replaced by 99% boredom to me. Stop boring me with your content Blizzard and I'll play again. Legion entertained me for only a few weeks.

I played from 2004 until 2011 and honestly will say it was some of the best experiences I've had. However I believe WoW is built for a younger audience with less real world responsibilities such as I had when I played. Now, being a husband and father, the raid oriented style of WoW where only the best gear is obtained through raids and the massive time commitment that entails just doesn't work for me anymore. I've happily found my new home in GW2 the last couple years but I would urge people who haven't played to give it a shot. It's changed a lot over the years but it has great lore, seamless zones, and maybe the best keyboard to character interactions.

WoW 2 is pretty much it.  WoW is expanded out and so far from its level 60 roots...

It would really need a reboot.  New engine, updated graphics, mechanics.... etc.  Currently, it's just long in the tooth.  Doesn't feel fresh anymore, no matter the expansions.

Open FFA PVP servers, I'd come back to give them a try.

WoW 2. If it's truly next generation, and has it's own innovations and isn't just a recycle.

I have just as much fun with other MMO's that charge no subscriptions, so nothing other then drop theirs.  I wouldn't be surprised if they do what some others are doing and allow players to level up to max without a sub with heavy restrictions and focus more on cash shop income.

A: Stop making multiple threads about WoW? Make just ONE thread, put your ideas and points about WoW in there, WAIT for others to interested to comment and MAYBE, we'll inclined to resubbing WoW again.

Honestly, I wouldn't really know. I've been with WoW for a long time, just before TBC. Been through a lot of guilds, in-game friends, drama, among other memorable events. For me over time losing in-game friends with it being difficult to make new ones to replace the old ones and dealing with really nasty players in randoms since lfg was started back in late WoTLK has been taking it's toll on me and just don't have the taste for group activities that much anymore. Unless it's BGs. The one thing that really took the last bit of energy I had with WoW is I spent years, since TBC, trying to obtain Illidan's wargalives running BT every week rarely missing a beat till near the midpoint of WoD I finally got both of them within a week from each other. I lost the last bit of motivation I had to stay.

I bought the recent expansion and I still pop in on free game time every other month to check on my characters and other stuff, but just can't get into it like I use to anymore. At this point, I'm not even sure if there is anything Blizzard can offer me to come back full-time again.

Open a Vanilla server running something like version 1.12 with proper talent trees and an actual chance of dieing when you get adds. No rep grinding.

Simply put hell will freeze over first.

To be fair I do not like Blizzard at all and outside of some early interest I had in WoWs beta(before I realized it was an ugly rip off of EQ) I haven't played the game.To be frank Blizzards style of art and their simplistic game play systems are a turn off to me. I doubt they will ever make a game I enjoy so I might not be a great example.

@TheScavenger While I appreciate that you are trying to encourage discussions. Can you slow down on intent of controversy? Just a personal request.

Why I don't play World of Warcraft currently, though I did dive back in for Cataclysm raiding. Left again after the final tier -- it sucked and was dumbed down yet again. Is they have a very up-and-down trend to the challenge of their end-game. If it's challenging, I'll usually resub. But for the most part they usually don't offer the same challenging content. Will they do it again in the future? Probably not, but this is an opinion based on their trend. They lost people to challenge, but lost people as well to easiness.

At the moment though, I'm 'retired' from raiding based games. I don't have the time I used to.
