Star Wars Galaxies News - A new Star Wars Galaxies EMU server will be opening its doors to player looking for the "NGE", or New Game Enhancements" version of the now-defunct title. Called Stella Bellum, the server is being worked on by a team of eight that seeks to bring SWG back to life as it was at the time the lights were turned off by SOE, now Daybreak Game Company.

We've lightened our stance on this. We even have an Emulator forum now. Since this is (so far) being allowed by legal parties involved, we thought we would news it.

On the contrary, it was "unpopular" at first and many original players scoffed at it but eventually it became quite enjoyable and considering it will have nearly all NGE content means this server will have Jump to Lightspeed, Galactic Civil War and many things other EMU servers do not, personally i'm excited.

I thought Jump to Lightspeed was one of the best things that I've seen in MMORPG's. It made SWG for me. I absolutely loved it and never got tired of it. It was one of the reasons that I kept coming back to SWG.

The NGE wasn't too bad toward the last couple years, lots more content, appearance slots, the combat got smoother/tighter, I certainly liked it better than most MMOS around today...

It's legal to create an emulator of a server. However it's not legal to provide the service to other people or accept donations. Which they are doing. Are you going to be advertising lineage 2 private servers too?

Doubtful since L2 is still running.

Maybe you should abide by your own rules and move this to the emulator forum you created in order to keep the private server stuff from being promoted or discussed by the members in the rest of the site.

I think the line is drawn when a game is shutdown completely, then we can talk about EMU's

L2 or WoW are perfect examples of game we can't post about

anyone know if there is going to be a Vanguard EMU anytime?

The emulator forum is for members to discuss private/emulated games. This is a news post.

No kidding @Tsumo Ive been on just about every SWGNGE project and there's nothing but drama and people DDOSing cause their butt hurt. NOTHING gets done SWG legends is the Closest working version of the game they even had a copy of the Original source code and STILL the worst of them as far as that goes. Dev's joining the project and then bailing cause of drama, then come back DDOS, leave, come back. I really love the game but until these people can show me a version that has everything SWG had when it was shut down in 2011 I'm just going to wait.

For the Crafting, play on a pre-NGE server, for sure.

The NGE gutted the importance of crafting in the game world, and damaged the crafting systems to a moderate degree as well, by removing professions, adding "magic" effects (like no needing meds to heal or buff) and removing item decay.

As for Bloodfin, it is low population as compared to the main EMU server, and has been beset with technical problems and "bad management practices" by the person running it.

As for any NGE servers, those are allegedly being done with stolen/leaked SOE code, as compared to the EMU main server, where they have recreated the code from scratch, and can prove the same.

    So keep that in mind.

I prefer to keep my SWG love in past memories.  Was hands down the best overall game/mmo I ever played. That said, I logged into the EMU a few years back and I was shocked at how bad it was, not the EMU, the game.  It was great for it's time, but it's best left as a game that was ahead of it's time.

I actually preferred the NGE. CU and pre CU was way too grindy for me.

The crafting in SWG was my first experience with crafting. Now, crafting in other mmo's is so boring to me now since I started out with the best. If you enjoy crafting, you should really give it a try.

I didn't, I hated it. . until I started playing about a year before it shut down.  I actually played it over any other game and didn't mind subbing.  Strange but true.  When CU came I was PO'd. . when NGE came I was furious.   Then Yoda taught me to close my eyes and relax.  Then he took my wallet and ran.

I remember playing SWG. I was a Droid Engineer and joined the Omni-Tek I believe.

It had the best Droid class of any MMO I ever played. It was amazing. There was also the Creature Handler, and the creatures you could bring out were so weird. But the Droid was where it was at, you could even walk around INSIDE the droid...like a mech :dizzy: pretty sure I remember you could do that anyway, but its been a long time.

The release of the game I remember being the worst of any MMO though. It was so bad, I bought the game for 3 dollars only two weeks after release. I regretted my purchase, but the game got worked on and became amazing.

Too bad its long dead though, but at least there are private servers coming back :D I dunno if I could play with such ancient graphics. 3d realistic graphics don't look as good when they are old as SWG is. 2d and cartoony graphics look nice decades later.

Still, some of my best memories were from SWG. And pretty sure I was in Omni-Tek...met a lot of good people that I still talk to today that were from that faction.

Loved SWG, but unfortunately as a hardcore pvper the small communities you find in private mmo servers are never large or competitive enough for me. Not to mention I've become spoiled with progressive action combat systems, newer engines, and improved graphics idk if I could ever go back no matter how much I liked a game (official Daoc fills this role too).
