Final Fantasy XV released earlier this week to fan and critical praise alike. But some are left wondering, just how is this a Final Fantasy game? Read on for five ways it calls back to previous games in the series.

Bam, that was easy.
Someone better call square and let them know they really bungled the box art then.

Care to elaborate...... I'm 10 hours in and am not disappointed in the least.. combat is fantastic and the world is just unbelievable. Or are you just bashing the game without playing to troll? Almost all the reviews are great. So please let us know
1. Smooth tactical combat. Combat in XV felt like a button holdy, qte driven, mess. Seriously, take the FF and SE names off it and I would have guess it was a Russian indie game (which typically have good graphics, but clunky gameplay).
2. A diverse range of player / party characters. I'm sure the main characters are OK if you are into that sort of thing, but personally I found them unlikeable, and that they are all 20 something white males is rather boring.
3. Full pary control. I know this is more personal taste, but if a game is going to have a 'party' then I want full control over each members actions at any given moment. FF:XII had party AI, but it still allowed direct actions at any moment, highly customisable AI behaviour, and was slow paced enough that you could effectively plan and co-ordinate.
4. I hate the magic system in XV. I know they are going for more steam punk, and consumable items are fine, but magic users with staple spells (Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, Cure, etc.) that they can cast when and as needed is, to me, a key part of the series.
Also, and I know each FF game is different, but XV just seems to lack that 'fantasy' feel... it's hard to describe, but it just feels like it's going for too much realism at the expense of just being fun (fuel for the car, fetch quests to make enough money, large empty spaces, camping, etc.); which is the same issue I had with GTA 4 (i.e. it just wasn't 'fun'), where as I loved San Andreas.
Edit: OK, WTF? I tried to login with my account, but must have got the username wrong (I can never remember these things), and now it's just created a new one...
These 2 are the only ones I agree with. And number 2 becomes slightly less so if you watch the brotherhood series and get their backstories.
But yeah, the magic sucks. Consumable items as the only magic. ugh. The system is barely explained in the game and the first time I used a spell I crafted myself I killed all the monster and my entire party.
Other than that I'm really enjoying the game. Not sorry I bought it.
In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. - Douglas Adams
I am playing the actual game and the things he says are largely on the mark. Its still a good enjoyable game, but at the same time its kind of a let down.
They aren't all white. They are definitely anglicized though.

And yes, final fantasy XV is certainly not a final fantasy anymore. How much fantasy can u find in realism if ure not on LSD?
i thought i was buying ff game but was dissapointed and took it back and traded it for another game i dont like being fooled
What really concerns me however, Is what this bodes for the Final Fantasy VII remake. If FF XV is any indication as to the direction the studio wants to take Final Fantasy VII remake, then it will be a complete disappoint to anyone who played the original.
The Gameplay.
Not that it's own gameplay is necessarily bad though, but there's a reason why this game was originally not going to be Final Fantasi XV, but instead Final Fantasy Versus. Those who say this "isn't a true Final Fantasy game!" are correct in a way, really, considering that even SquareEnix itself can be considered one of those in a way.
This concerns me as well. When they stated in interviews that FFVII's combat system was "outdated", a part of me was filled with dread.
They'd better not relegate Barret, Tifa, Vincent, Red, Cait Sith, Yuffie, and Aerith to NPC AI-Controlled party member status, dammit.
FFXV does a lot of things right and others......are kinda meh or why ?
Combat is fun , u can chain attacks using 4 weapons at anytime , start with 2h sword change to daggers , go for ranged weapon (electro guns weird things) and lance ....or whatever u want to mix , even shield is used as single weapon , the combos are based in if u move the left stick (up down left right) and can break chains ....dodge is a must if u want to survive ....u can tell your friends to use attacks (u can only have 1 active however ) some are buffs to you , heals , or powerfull attacks...
i would prefered the old ATB or FFX system but guess what ? SE dont want to give FF players a jrpg game anymore , even FFVII is going to be like FFXV /sadpanda
the story is convoluted mess atm (chapter 6 starting on 7 ) , and have some many "sub storys" , random quests , that u can get lost for hours doing nothing but hunting mobs , helping ppl and forgot about the main story ....the start of the game is a bit wth with this , i remember doing almost no fights for 2h ....a friend walked in and told me wtf are u doing ? ......ehm fishing for a quest , a cat is in need of food......we both laughed , and i told him that wasnt what i signed for when i bought this game :P
anyway just the story graphics and tons of hours is worth it....but yeah i miss my old FF tactic jrpgs , this new generation of FF are not what i expected the series to become
