Pokemon is a series that Nintendo doesn’t often experiment with. I mean, sure there are spin off games, but rarely does the main series divert too far from the usual “beat the gym leaders, collect the pokemon” motif. That’s changed with Pokemon Sun and Moon, and it makes for the best games the series has ever seen.

I agree with all of this except for "the new pokemon are better designed than those we got in x and y." I get that this is subjective, but roughly 2/3rds of these new Pokemon make me cringe for their lameness. In my opinion, it's the worst design batch yet with a few outliers. Aside from that, Sun and Moon is the best game in the series so far, and has a lot to love.

im half way through Omega Ruby, then will pick up X or Y, and then will get Moon, some day. I don't play my 3DS very often. I spend more time on my Vita.

This is my reason that I didn't get it in the first place. But after some reviews, I'm reconsidering buying it.

I definitely would. The new batch is a joke, but from what I've seen so far, the game throws gen 1-3 pokemon at you like they're going out of style (including shockingly early appearances of Pichu, Gastly, Misdreavous, Magnemite, and others for a lot of type diversity early on). You can, at the very least, make something of a legacy team.
