Did you buy Crowns in $5 bundles because buying small bundles is the only way you spent $100 on 2 15 crate bundles. I agree the payout and especially the gem conversion should be much better, but exaggeration and hyperbole don't add to a useful discussion.
I used neither exaggeration nor hyperbole. And what do you mean buying smaller packs? Could I have gotten more crates had I not spent ten thousand crowns on the two 15 packs?
Okay, so I spent $100 on Crowns and bought 30 Atronach boxes. Keep in mind I have purchased every single cosmetic ever to come up on the Crown Store since day one, so I thought going into this I would earn Crown Gems a bit faster than the non collector... That was not the case at all since most everything is new and solely exclusive to the Atronach Crate.
I got 3 hats, 2 pets, 1 momento, 1 Grand exp scroll (which I converted to 33 Gems) the rest of the 30 boxes I opened was poisons, potions, a couple regular exp scrolls and riding lessons which I converted all to gems as well.
I wound up with 294 Crown Gems for $100. So at that rate I would have to at least spend another $50 to get 1 Atronach mount for 400 Gems (which I wont be doing).
None of Pacrooti's animations worked, so all I got was a box that I would click then I'd have to exit out to see what I got, then re-enter the pacrooti screen to open another box... That task became onerous after 10 crates.
So, after spending $100 on 30 Crates I couldn't even buy 1 of the Atronach mounts, couldn't even enjoy the Pacrooti animations of the box opening and seeing my cards, I have 2 pets and 3 hats.
Now, what I will be doing is no longer supporting this game. I am cancelling my sub effective today, I will never buy another cosmetic from the Crown Store (which is going to be painful because I really enjoyed collecting ) The only financial investment Zenimax will get from me, from here on out, is I will just outright buy DLC (actual game content) when it drops, the end.
P.S. If I came out after $100 with one of the Atronach mounts I might have felt slightly more positive about this underwhelming experience but still, I would have to spend roughly $1000 (probably a bit more) to get every Atronach mount, and maybe id get all the lesser cosmetics by spending a thousand if the Pacrooti RNG was kind.
I spoke out against this system being implemented from day one, I knew it would be really bad and I was right... But, as a loyal customer since launch I figured Id at least give this a try (knowing already from previous MMO's that the gamble would be real). This RNG gambling system makes ESO now as aggressive a cash grab (for people who like collecting anyways) as Black Desert Online.
I look at this feature like that friend you loaned a hundred bucks to and he never paid you back but you never saw him again, and just think to myself, well, it only cost me $100 to get that bad egg out of my life.
I'm not quitting the game by any means, Ill still play, and I'm not even bitter about the $100. I knew what the outcome would be but I set aside that money just to see for myself how predatory this system would be. Now I just wont support this community ruining move by spending a cent on anything but actual game expanding content.

*I posted this on ESO's official forums as well.
You too are the target audience, the person who has to everything, and most folks of your type don't exhibit the same level of self control, which ZOS is also banking on.
In fact, although you've told them you won't be buying again they won't believe you, because so often people say one thing yet do another.
Gird your loins and stay the course.
Key points are made above!
The problem is people are now going with his information and accepting it at face value. I don't believe him.
The crates are 5000 crowns for the 15 crate bundle. The price for Crowns isn't fixed. Without sales Crowns are 5500/$40, 3000/$25, 1500/$15, 750/$8, and 1500/month subbed (payed up front per period bought).
He says he bought $100 worth of crates, but doesn't say how many crates he bought. There isn't $100 worth of crates. There singles and bundles.
Then there is the questionable payout. I bought 1 bundle of 15 crates and 3 costumes, 3 pets, 2 hats, and several consumables. Since he said he already unlocked every cosmetic he wasn't referring to new sets, but duplicates that would get converted to Crowns. I would need to see the full payout to believe it because it doesn't sound reasonable.
So they've successfully kept the discussion about the psuedo moralism and soapbox posturing when in fact they're not representing what is happening at all. If they had been honest, or at least accurate, about their experience then there would be something interesting to discuss instead of a manufactured scenario.
I had 10,000 crowns, I bought two 15 packs each 5,000 crowns, how was that hard to understand. I used no misinformation I guess I just undervalued that actual amount of money I spent on crowns to make it easier to understand. What I wrote was EXACTLY what I wound up with.
And I will not ever spend a cent on this game (with the exception of actual DLC content again. I have already cancelled my sub.
I really don't care if you guys believe me or not, I posted my findings after opening 30 crates. Take it or leave it, the system sucks, but one guy was right, it was designed to prey on people like me, who enjoy collecting.
The essence of good business is when both parties leave the transaction feeling they got a fair deal...
*Edit: My bad I have sales tax in my state, so the two 45$ packs come to 49$ so I rounded up a couple dollars, my bad!
I opened 30 boxes, I got 3 hats 2 pets and 1 momento (the atronach thing) I got no costumes that I had already previously owned so no gem conversion there. I got one Grand EXP card which I converted to 33 gems.
SO after those 30 boxes (and roughly $100 bucks w/sales tax ya friggin sticklers) I converted all potions, regular exp scrolls and riding lessons to gems (which is an abysmal exchange rate) and wound up with 294 gems. None of that is hyperbole or misinformation. Its just MY experience with the system.
Oh and I have 1000 crowns left over. Just incase leaving that out makes me some kind of liar.
Selling these loot boxes isn't making money put more stuff in them to try and sell more or selling lots so add more to make more money.
Personally I would rather not pay for RNG gambling boxes and actually play games to get rewards.
I'd have to say that these loot/lock/boxes/crates/chest are making money - in lots of games. They seem to be the go-to mechanism for ftp games (not all, but plenty).
Rng has been a popular element in eastern games, even subscription only ones. Remember when Aion launched? Sub only with massive and punishing manastone slotting rng - unlucky and you lost the lot in that relevant armor/weapon.
But it has also been in the west - and accepted - for years. Boss loot rng - sometimes you get lucky, sometimes not - but at least with this it was seen as earned through playing.
Now other rng elements have steadily crept across to the west. Even a standard subscription mmo, FFXIV, has seen this introduced, to the extent where one of the class's (Astrologian) skills has rng cards. Meaning you don't know what ability you've picked until the card is subsequently displayed. An inanely stupid idea for mmo class abilities.
So rng lockboxes - players buy them. No matter whether the costs are high and the chances are low. They are still bought. People moan - others buy.
Unfortunately until that pattern stops they will be a permanent and increasing feature of mmo's. Why unfortunately? Like the poster above, I'd much rather play to get the rewards.
Okay that makes more sense. 10k crowns isn't $100 unless you buy it in $15 or $8 packs. It may cost nothing as it comes with the sub. It can be as cheap as $50.
It would be accurate to have said you opened 30 crates and this is what you got. It's not unreasonable to question the honesty or accuracy of something that is so exaggerated. Thanks for clarifying that though and even though I questioned you I can understand your perspective.
I don't disagree with you that the payout should be much better. I don't think someone should walk away from 30 boxes without a top tier reward and if you have all those cosmetics unlocked then you should have had over 400 gems after breaking down all that stuff. If it were a little less stingy then I might play a bit more, probably not at the current rate.
Actually I just logged in and I left out that I got the buzz cut hairstyle as well. My fault, So with 30 crates I got 1 hairstyle, 3 hats, 2 pets, 1 momento and a grand exp scroll. Also, because the Pacrooti animations didn't work for me I never knew if I drew a fifth card... Also his dialogue never worked either. Id get the box, click it then itd just disappear and show a hazy Pacrooti.
What was frustrating was I thought I would have an advantage on earning gems due to the fact that I have purchased every cosmetic since launch of the crown store.
I think the ratio for gems should be if I get 25 poisons then I should get 25 gems, if I get 5 potions then 5 gems and so on. That would at least make the system itself less predatory.
But yeah, I'm sorry about the lack of clarity on pricing I wasn't trying to spread misinfo, I typed that up when I was a bit frustrated then copied it over to these forums from ESO's forums.
For me the idea of crates like this invalidate the entire idea of a cosmetic in game store. What happens all the time when they introduce stuff like this is the items that once you could just go buy if you wanted them get stuck in these crates instead. So now you have a chance at getting it instead of just going out and buying it straight out. It becomes a thing were the best design things begin to be placed only in the crates. If this is the system they are going with now it is one I personally can do without. I never minded the cosmetic store myself, I think that is a great way to get extra income for games. I do not stand behind rng boxes for those same items.

I think it will get worse either way.

No more money from me until the remove this atrocity.
