DDO / I tried it, for a few weeks and...

So I tried this game and gave it a pretty good shot, IMO... but in the end I did not like it and cancelled my account.

What I didnt like :
- having to rest at shrines

- having to only change spells at shrines

- broken weapons

- chests all over the place and tons of junk loot

- user interface ugly and not as intuitive as other games

- too many dungeons seem too similar

- contrived feel to the game didn't feel realistic

- voice chat, somehow it took away from the fantasy aspect. Every battle had some nerd saying, OK you have to do exactly this and expact that blaa blaa... so where's the fun and suprise in that?

Needless to say I was sorely dissapointed, and wished I hadn't spent the money.

Many if not all player subscriptions are up for renewel on April 6.
It's funny, as April 6 approaches, how many people have come to this forum
to express dissatisfaction with the game. I have a feeling DDO is going to start losing a LOT of players.

I think DDO will sputter on for some time however. My theory is that they have a very small staff, therefore they don't need a massive player base to stay in the black. I can only hope they work hard to correct these problems.

In the beginning - for me at least - the game was fun. It was the bugs and generic dungeons that ruined the game for me.

There is also a lot of dissention coming from the players on the DDO forums.  Loads of players have been quitting left and right.  They are only releasing their new module today in the hopes of snagging in some more for the extra month of subscription.  So many people are angry at Turbine, it will be interesting to see how many people are left at the end of the billing cycle.  This game seems to be quickly headed the way of AC2.

Yeah I'd say they released that module too soon. Apparently there has been massive downtime and rollbacks due to the release. I haven't actually played the game in a few days but I visited the board just now and boy are people screaming.

While I was there I posted a polite, brief note on the forum explaining that I was quitting and why... will be curious to see how long the post sticks around before it gets deleted. I initally tried to fit my post into a similar thread started by someone else, but the thread was deleted before I could submit!

If anyone is curious, it took Turbine under 5 minutes to delete my thread. And yet, the thread entitled "An Open Letter to Those who Complain" is not deleted. Hm....

I agree with all of your points except the voice chat.  I liked the voice chat, call me lazy, :)  But if there wasn't any voice chat, it would have been just as easy to type out what to do and where to go for people.  I personally can type, but there are alot of people who can't and I think the voice chat gives them an opportunity to enjoy the games now.

I hope voice chat is here to stay.  Might take away from your immersion a little bit, but it makes it easier to communicate and I find that to be a plus.

Btw, I also cancelled my subscription today, lol.  Gave it a good 30 day try though for my $50, but wasn't about to spend another penny on it, especially after I found out Whirlwind Attack doesn't work right.  I spent alot of time getting my 2 fighter classes up to the point where I could take that feat.  I would have been really mad to find out I wasted my time.

Wish I had a game to play, man I am gonna be bored until NWN 2 or Vanguard.  Hope those games live up to the hype.
