So a 480 seems to be slightly worse than a 1060. Though at the sale price of $179 is $90 cheaper than a 1060. Seems like on a tight budget that is something to seriously take into consideration? Ok what is the RX 490's price point going to be. I see that there is going to be 2 versions of the RX 490 normal and pro. Pro on one page I am reading benches higher than a 1070 in 3dmark but I assume lower than a 1080. Or else they would have compared it to a 1080. I'd assume. Which is fine if the price point is just as good as the 480. Are these cards sacrificing anything to get to those price points? Just a question. I do not follow hardware until I get serious about upgrading or building a new pc. Which I haven't had the need for a several generations now.
480 now performs better than the competing 1060 model. The 1060 will sell for less. What is expected in January from AMD is a card that outperforms the 1080. If they also release a lower end 490 is yet to be seen. The one that will outperform the 1080 will have an msrp to match.

Ok. I see what's going on.... The version he linked has 4GB memory. Most 1060's are 6GB in the $260 - $270 range or more. The cheapest 8GB version 480 is $229 which is on sale, $20 off. So the memory was the catch.. Ignoring sales. Price points are actually closer. With the RX 480 still currently cheaper. A 3GB 1060 is same price when both lower memory version are not on sale. Using Newegg for reference.

Don't assume that Nvidia will just sit back and watch it happen. They already countered AMD very hard by making the 1050,1060. They specifically targeted AMD's midrange chips. And in January the 1080Ti will be the new star.
