Archeage Fresh Server (new) packs p2w or not?

As a new player, without wanting a pack, can I still have fun? On the new servers.

    Yes you can, the people who buy packs will just get a headstart on you and be able to level faster and get the best housing locations due to increased XP.  If you jump in right away and play like a madman, you should still be able to get a land plot or two.

    The P2W comes later when they start putting "advancement" items back in the cash shop after they get enough suckers to come try the new servers.

    I forgot to mention, without patron status, you can not have a house/land and will not be able to compete with those who do.  If you are in a guild who shares land with F2P members that will help but if you are asking can a new player who is F2P compete with someone who buys packs and has patron status the answer is a big NO.

    Chances are that people who do buy the packs and will undoubtedly have patron sub too, will also be 'working like dogs' because, why wouldn't they? so if you don't have at least a patron sub, then competing is out of the question. :o

    From a business perspective, I respect Trion since they know there are idiots in the world who will pay the same price for the same item that they just sold them 2-3 years ago. There's nothing p2w in the pack, just convince stuff. I'm not sure if they are implementing APEX right off the bat, but if they do, then you can buy patron via that way, it just wont be much different at that point (probably worse, since market value will be pretty unstable).

    With all that said, this game will just provide people who quit some temporary "nostalgia" before they quit again for the same reasons they did before, a couple of months after this launches.

    P2P describes how a game makes money through subscriptions and is the same as how P2W describes how a game makes money through microtransactions.  It has nothing to do with what is offered through cash shops, nor does it matter how fair/unfair those microtransactions are towards other players.

    ArcheAge is really a sub game. It is marketed as a F2P game but in reality it is not. You really need to sub to the game. If you are willing to do that then you should have a wonderful time without the need to spend additional cash on the game.

    Agree, not only that, if you really want to be competitive you need to spend money on its cash shop too.

    That's why I will never play Archeage ever again.
    I am willing to pay a Sub, but they need to scrap the Cash Shop completely (which they won't)

    This has royally cheesed me off, i was goign to start again on fresh server the moment i heard that there would be no advancement cash items in the cash shop for some time. However, what happens, i see today a sale of 'fresh start packs " and what does it have in it, bu tthe one thing that is pay2win over all else in AA... vocation tonics.. WTF!!!!
    This means that right off the bat someone who has cash to burn ccan throw a £100 at game and get 10k lab our immediately 
    so it looks like ill let my game-time expire on the historic server and that will be me, i was willing to give it a full go this time after stopping playing after the beta release and all the bots...
    Sad really as i actualy enjoy the game, but no thanks.....

    This post is all my opinion, but I welcome debate on anything i have put, however, personal slander / name calling belongs in game where of course you're welcome to call me names im often found lounging about in EvE online.

    Yup, basically at the last minute they released the fresh start packs. They have vocation tonics, tax certs, xp boost potions, the 150 labor restore bed, and even regrade charms... On top of that, when I read some of the patch notes, I saw that they gutted some skillsets, like my favorite one, battlerage. And then made other dumb changes, such as increasing the labor required to make tax certs from 200 labor per 5 certs to 300 labor per 5 certs. They changed the apothecary's crafting house so that you have to have a high proficiency in cooking to make the good food/drink items, which completely negates the purpose of making the house. And everything I'm reading on the AA forums is saying that the fresh start launch is just as bad as all of their previous launches.

    So they decided to squeeze money from players at the last minute.  No surprise there.  Always count on archeage to do the greedy thing.  I mean really what a freakin joke this company is.  The whole point in the fresh start was to avoid the cash shop.  And first thing they do is open the cash shop.  I'm hella glad I didn't fall for this trion bullshit again.

    P2P = Pay to play, sub based
    F2P = microtransactions
    Freemium = microtransactions with "optional" sub
    Pay2win = Microtransactions that gives you an ingame advantage like gear with good stats. 
    I think you meant to write F2P. 

    At the time as AA freemium with a few things that border on P2W. It was blatantly P2W a while ago though and it might get back to that or not.

    So OP, you will seriously need a sub. You can certainly try it out for free and see if you like it but for long term play in any freemium game you will have way more fun if you sub, otherwise you will feel like a second class citizen. But that goes for all freemium games.

    Few "free" games let you play seriously for a long time without buying stuff, the devs do want income after all like all other companies.
