If SWG died now what would happen?

If SWG died now what would happen?

I hope it does not because I just got into it. But...

Why can't another company make another version of a Star Wars Online Game running at the same time as SWG? In the future millions of people will be playing Online games. There is plenty of room for all.

Look around the server, notice the lack of thousands of other players. They used to be there, I know, I was one of them. It's already dead.

Oh yes I know, but I meant if it died all the way, like would there be no choice but to have anthoer company do another Star Wars Online Game or would it just stay dead?

Oh well, I was just thinking about it. no big deal.

Because another company is smart enough not to invest millions of dollars in a failed enterprise with loads of baggage (negative press, bad word of mouth, Lucas Arts)

Because, when you stop drinking from the preCU kool-aid, SW:G in and of itself was a buggy, laggy, piece of shit (just like the current buggy, laggy, piece of shit), that as a sandbox game, wasn't ready for release, and the market itself isn't ready for a sandbox game?  That Smed is actually RIGHT when he says that the Star Wars name SHOULD have (already) several million subscribers?  That ANYTHING Star Wars related can't be viewed as a niche game, as SW:G preNGE/preCU/CU was?

If SWG died now, it would most assuredly be a good thing.

Maybe everybody would shut the hell up about it and get over the whole thing. But I doubt it.

If the game was shut down I'd probably start hallucinating from withdrawl symptons :p

Seriously though, the game isn't being shut down for a long time, MMO's very rarely get axed.

Exactly my opinion...why couldn't they make a different version with the NGE and leave the game we loved alone?

Its alraeady dead.. Like others have stated times before in this post... If you need hard proof though take a look at the 400th generation dev who is 23 years old fresh out of tech college. I always thought when we went beyond first generation the items or what not would improve... I guess in this case they got the reverse engineering coding all fubared.

I think the recent wildfire over the the Bioware rumor do hint at this.  When people celebrate in the streets over the rumor of your demise, the fact that you aren't dead doesn't mean you don't have a serious problem.

    Hi,

The only part I disagree with is your statement about the sandbox concept. Even though the pre-cu had issues it was still a great game, [ although I agree that they probably released it to soon] and I think sandbox games are the way to go. Let's also rememeber the concept ran quit well before the CU and NGE came out. In all, the game simply needed more content and a true GCW to make it better. I think that is SOE / LA had put the time, money, and effort in to fixing the bugs, adding more content, and create a true GCW that they put into make the CU and the NGE we would all still be playing it and their would be a huge subscirption / player base.

Pre-CU, those were the main reasons people quit.  Too many bugs, no content, no GCW.
All they had to do was DO THEIR JOBS by fixing bugs and adding content.

Thats exactly my point, if they put the same resources and effort into fixing bugs, adding content, and having a true GCW that they did with the CU and NGE we would have a great game. So we agree if they had did their job and put the effort into making a great game we would all still be playing it.

All the bug fixes and added content in the world wouldn't change the fact that SWG was a niche-style game better suited to any setting other than a mainstream license like Star Wars.

SOE and any game company still wont use the "Best of Both Worlds" tactic. This another of my peeves against MMOs and the game companies.

SOE could have offered more content for those that wanted it and offered the sandbox style gameplay at the sametime. Literally doubling their content in a matter of days.

How was SWG a niche style game?  It had the core to appeal to a WIDE range of people.  There were too many bugs and not enough content.  It's much more niche now with the NGE than it was.  How was it so niche before?  You had to actually THINK and be able to READ to play?
Pre-CU there were all kinds of players in game.  Now there's just the 1337 d00dz who want instant gratification.  The original game could have been a huge game that appealed to tons of people.  They just had to do their job.  They didn't.
