Pro tip.  Patron status really isn't optional.

2nd tip. Companies trying to make money are not greedy, it's called running a business.

The F2P system is more like a trial version for the real game. I can live with that, because AA plays perfectly fine with patron status and brings a lot of features to the table that no other MMO can.

    This.

The real issue with Archeage is still their Cash Shop though, they still didn't learn.
The Cash Shop still has lots of P2W items, so even with a Patron Status you will be left behind if you don't spend extra money on CS.

I think this game is well and truly done.

Pro tip :  Patron status + F2P  can be achieved both at same time  in Archeage.

    ...

    ...

I like trion, I like Rift and I like Atlas reactor, but Archeage make them look like scammers, big time.

You have to wonder why Archeage's monetization is so predatory considering Trion's other game offerings.

It's probably because Trion has to comply with the wishes of the game developer. Heavy Cash Shops and P2W are standard practice in Korean and Chinese games.

Truly well done, you mean one of the best scam systems developed to hook whales, I would agree. The game feeds off addiction, and it is a sick asin disgusting way to make moeny. I read this guy is from Lineage  team, so it is easy to see why he was let go.

"Well and truly done" and "Truly well done" means 2 different things, one is the opposite of the other.

There are better and more honest ways to make money, forcing people to buy from the CS is not a good way to do business, particularly when you already pay for Patron.

As a solo free-to-player for over 2 years my only problems with Archeage were:

    1. The Community:
Everyone thinks they're an elitist troll. As a competitive PvP player, no matter how many times I won a fight or lost a fight, without fail, I was a noob and all of region/global had to know.

I once killed 3 players, 2 above my gearscore and 1 below. Once I killed the last one, as I stood over his dead body, he said, ''rekt''. I could only imagine he was commenting on the fact that I apparently rekt them, but I was wrong, somehow, in their minds, I was the one who got rekt. This was the most extreme case of denial though I ever was faced with. Every other time, it was just endless insults in region chat and exclaiming their loss of 2 freighters of packs was chump change and I sucked. It got old. Couldn't even own land next to a red player without having to block an entire guild.

    2. There's no taking breaks:
The game was really fun and I could make 1500g a day in only a few hours taking Gweonid packs to Austera (most valuable packs) using a 2nd red-alt account to load my merchant safely in Cinderstone and deliver them to my faction's base only to use all that gold destroying weapon after weapon in regrades. Like I said, it was fun. I really enjoyed the fights I had on Cinderstone beach/on the sea with pirates/PK'ers at Austera and it was worth the gold sink at the end of every day.

But naturally after 2 years and never having reached more than a Divine weapon, I wanted to take a break. After going through what I went through to obtain the land I had, I didn't want to sell it else I wouldn't have been able to get it back and didn't trust anyone to hold onto it for me nor did I want to concern myself at the end of every month to log in and pre-pay another month, let alone log in every week to craft more tax certificates - that's besides the point of taking a break.

By no means am I saying players should own land permanently. What I am saying is, someone like me who spent hours everyday for 2 years (f2p or not) should come out with more than a Divine weapon/armor and 3 toughness gems so that I CAN have the option to sell all my land and take a break, knowing when I come back, I have what I need to PvP competitively vs. the epic+ tier players and not be required to grind anymore.

    So,

I believe if either of these reasons don't bother you, there's no reason why you can't enjoy Archeage.

Yes, it's pay-to-win considering how much an advantage Epic+ weapons are but a majority of players don't have them or know how to use them and, in my experience, won't stop you from having fun. If only RNG was easier and every person wasn't an idiot (especially guild leaders and their guilds).

To be fair, the F2P option is more of a free trial to see if you like the game.  You can not really play and be competitive going F2P unless you play it like a second job and really, where is the fun in that?

The reason Trion and XL can keep doing this is because of people not learning from the established track record and thinking "it will be different this time." The reason games with such a crap monetization scheme exist like this is because people play them and pay, in spite of how much is already known about this. I have zero sympathy for anyone who gets burned by the ArcheAge experience at this point.

They really should've just launched the fresh start servers as subscription only with limited cash shop (vanity stuff). Like FFXIV seeing as that's the game's exact model (well they let you rent extra space too instead of having a way to extend space via in game means). That community doesn't seem to have a problem with it given how much they update their cash shop.

So what you are saying, you wasted 2 years of time to have little to nothing to show for it. When I logged into my Eve online account that I had not used in over 10 years, everything I had, was still there.....

I agree with your changes, it is ridiculous to spend that time which you can't get back, and not have anything to show for it.

Well playing a single player game like Legend of Zelda for a couple of months before beating the game isn't really a waste of time since you had fun.

I'm saying I had fun for 2 years. Wanted to take a break but couldn't. If I could have returned to the game later, I would still be playing. If the time I spent playing would have rewarded me with better armor, someone else could take my land and enjoy my game more themselves while I devote myself to 100% PvP but the game didn't do that.

The fact you can log into your EVE with everything you left with is nice. I can do that too with LoTRO but personally, I wish Archeage had that feature so I wouldn't have had to quit because it is a good game.

I don't see how paying players can get burned considering they can just buy their armor/weapons with money and play whenever they feel like it but yeah I don't sympathize paying players either since they want an easy advantage.

Just saying, F2P is almost completely viable and the game is fun. Just dont expect to take any breaks or meet any nice people.

Serious question, under 3.0 what exactly are you "forced" to buy from the cash shop? (assuming you are a patron)

from what I read, it is about labor point. That is Archeages biggest cash cow. Everyone thought labor points were cool "this great, micro manage laborpoints , its like a mini game" 2 months later "fuck, labor points, better get soem more from the cash shop...."
Since 3.0  no more  labor potions for cash shop credits.
    Just limited options for loyalty.
