A while back, I gave you all some insight into the technical tests I played for Insel Games and Runewaker’s Guardians of Ember. In short, I saw potential, but had a few worrisome notes about the combat specifically. Early Access on Steam (essentially launch, as there will be no more wipes) is here, and we’re diving in to see what’s changed for the worse or for the better.

It's 15% off on Steam until 12/20, so you can get the regular edition for $16.99 and the Immortal edition for $42.49.

the same game was released in korea from Runewaker ( Runes of Magic)as p2w cash shop game wich crashed and burned innert 2 months. Now you want to pay for that failbirth a box price, including the cash shop? And on top it has a Lolicon class.

I am trying to play the game but the combat is horrible for me. The engineer's boomerang is proof enough for me as it is not thrown at mouse location but at where the game thinks you are facing when it fires off so most times it seems to throw behind me.

Yeah, you know that old school Diablo 2 style 8 point directional aiming that gamers fawn all over because "diablo 2 man!". It uses that. It doesn't target mouse location. It uses the direction closest to where you mouse is. Old school isn't as neat and popular unless it has some old school IP painted over the top or plastered over the marketing blurb.

It will be interesting to see how people like the D2 style minigame inside D3 next quarter.

I haven't played D2 in forever because did not enjoy it. If that is what everyone fawns over then they can keep it. Give me something modern as I enjoy D3.

lol I explained to someone in another post that there are 4 races; human, elf, dwarf, and loli. :chuffed:
Trade out dwarves for beastmen/giants and you have every Eastern MMO ever.

What are you talking about? In D2 you using your F keys to swap around your mouse click abilities and your character attacked based on the direction you pointed and clicked the mouse.

having a lot of fun with this one. Kind of reminds me of the original Neverwinter Nights for some reason. But having a great time. Probably more MMO, than ARPG, but personally I like that it leans more to the MMORPG side of things.

What makes ARPG's bad is their fast spammy combat,so if Rune is trying to remedy that horrible decision, then i am all for it.

I never want to play any game where i can close my eyes and just spam a couple buttons,i like to at least think a bit and ARPG"s offer about 2% thinking and the rest a 5 year old could easily play if you tell him which two buttons to spam.
IMO it is sad that there is such a large market for ARPG's because thy are really cheap games to design/deliver and as i said they could hire a kid off the street to design the combat.

Funny thing is that as popular as Wow is,i actually stated a long time ago that Runewalker tried to improve on Wow with it's ROM game,it took the same game but added more depth and imo harder overall. So now they are trying to improve on a genre that has completely steered me away, good for them.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

The cool thing is the devs are listening to the community and realise there are things that need fixed and there working on them they just announced there making a US based server that will be launching in a few days so they are listening

I've got no clue why people keep comparing the combat in an isometric action MMORPG with a hack n slash game. It should not be compared to D3, PoE or Grim Dawn but to Devilian, ELOA, the new MU game etc. And compared to those the combat in this game is pretty good. I hated the other games just mentioned and really like this one. I also play most current hack n slash games and they really are a different genre tbh.

Not a fan of Runewaker at all but for this price I am enjoying the game a lot.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Just remember that this is early access. So it seems the game needs more work before they can say it's in a finished form.

I'm hoping for the sake of everyone who purchased the game that this isn't abandonware but there are some things that are hard to ignore.

    1. Only 1 server located in Germany for everyone in the world. Developer says it's because they don't have money for more but if you "support" the game they may add another for NA.

    2. There is some guy flagged as a dev on the Steam forums that pops in every time someone brings up concerns about lag who says he's in the USA and gets no lag...right. The western localization team is in EU, Original team is in Taiwan and one guy in the USA? My guess is that he is a friend or someone they hired to do PR seeing as the original developer who posted on Steam insults people on the forums and calls them trolls. I would link the threads but don't know how, if you want to see them they are there.

    3. Development seems to be very hard for the individuals working on the game. The game was supposed to be released in October(or maybe even late September) but it was delayed til December even after they said they just had to make some minor adjustments. The state the game was released in + the server being down during the launch makes it seem like releasing the game in the shape it's in is the best they can do.

    4. Buy to play with cash shop for essentials like "extra" inventory space. Other games are either BTP and give access to everything or FTP and you buy inventory because there was no initial cost but charging an upfront cost + extra for QoL essentials, why?. Other games in the same genre like Marvel Heroes and PoE offer much more for less.

I'm being super cautious but I'm always willing to take a wait and see approach to game launches these days. No need for me to get upset. Doesn't matter how smart of proficient you are, sometimes, you get shit on your hand wiping.

This game is OK as a casual time filler. It has a long way to go yet to make it anywhere near as good as the games it has to compete with in the same genre. For me the biggest issue was lag spikes, they worked on those a ton and have gotten a good bit of it under control now. Also they are adding new US based servers now, so I have stopped playing because they are not sure if they will be able to transfer our characters over until the server opens.

As far as attack speed goes, that one is fixable and is meant to be slow unless you put skill points into it. Saw a lot of people complaining but when you ask them if they put skill points into attack speed they most common answer was no. Directional combat is an issue though, as most skill will go off the direction you are facing instead of a target. So if you a casting and you move your character to avoid something all the sudden you cast in the total opposite direction.

Over it isn't a bad time filler for me. Is this on par with a game like Path of Exile, it's not even close yet, though. Will jump in from time to time just for fun when the new US server opens up. Hopefully they will work out some of the issues that people are complaining about over time.

Thought companies learned to stop releasing garbage like this after Devilian came out here.

    Guess not..
  • HexipoxHexipox Member UncommonPosts: 241
I dont get it .. TTK? everything die in 1 spell. I play an Arcan, my lightning bolt jump to 5 targets and all 5 die in first cast and I'm level 6. I got a blue dagger from the first small dungeon and some green offhans whatever. TTK is fine. but the combat is clucky. If you take a long time to kill stuff, you must be doing something wrong, for me its just click lightning and 5 targets die..

Devilian has actual good combat, the issue is limited skills builds and singular gear path for every class.

    Also the grind is real.

This doesnt even have good combat unfortunately.

What's grindy GoE? Soooo go with Devilian?

Hope they solve my issue. Bought the game,(atleast I think I bought the game) from their website. Was instructed to redeem the license key they sent on Steam. Well how do you do that with out buying it again, this time from Steam.
