Pokemon Go News - The BMJ, once known as the British Medical Journal, has published a new paper studying the global Pokemon Go phenomenon and has discovered that physical activity increased at first but was not sustained after six weeks. Over 1800 participants between 18 and 35 from the US took part using an iPhone 6 app to count daily steps.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Of course I still do a lot of other stuff like ride my bike, so I never really had a drop in exercise. I just don't walk as much now. The biggest factor for me would probably be the cold and getting dark earlier.

"Our study has limitations. Firstly, steps were only recorded when the iPhone was carried. This might lead to overestimation of the effect of Pokémon GO because physical activity could occur when the phone is not being carried (eg, football), whereas all Pokémon GO related activity was recorded. Secondly, although our results did not change materially when adjusting for several baseline variables, the difference in difference analysis is susceptible to confounding from changes in number of daily steps that were unique to Pokémon GO players but independent of the game. Thirdly, our study population was limited to iPhone users in the US, and MTurk workers are not representative of the general population—for example, in terms of sex (overrepresentation of women), political views, and personality.9 22 Generalisability of our results might therefore be limited.
Although the association between Pokémon GO and change in number of steps was short lived in our study, some people might sustain increased physical activity through the game. Also, the effect of Pokémon GO on physical activity might be different in children, who were not included in our study. Other potential benefits might exist, such as increased social connectedness and improved mood."
Also if you look at the charts pokemon GO players even after 6 weeks still had MORE steps than people that didn't play. It was much less than within the first week or two, sure, but how often do you play a game after nearly 2 months? That's the question - and if I'm to bet, most people don't play the same game everyday for 2 months.
And yet it still made more money than VR.1) Getting pokeballs is significantly more difficult if there isn't a pokestop nearby. Even if there is, you still might get 2 balls each time you visit the pokestop and you would, likely, use waaaaay more than that if you didn't have to think about saving your pokeballs.
2) It's the winter now. My walking has decreased by 50% since we got hit with snow.
3) I used to believe that leaving the house would ensure that I found something fantastic. Unfortunately, my town is pretty much dead, except in my garage where it seems that there are plenty of spawns. OH! And the retirement home that I can detect monsters, but have to actually walk there to get Other than that, and keeping in mind that I'm walking all over my town, my town is dead.
I think it's helped me and my wife stay motivated to get out of the house, but snow will probably trump that motivation. Also, if I EVER started beating my wife (in the game) I'm sure she'd stop playing lol.
