I am excited and buying it on Dec 15th when it's EA on steam. Well unless they are charging a crazy price that is.
So it is confirmed for the 15th or is it speculation?
i read it some where on one of there updates but i cant find it now so maybe they redacted it
    15th is tomorrow.. god i hope you're right :)
Im trying to keep my expectations about this game in check but there's really not much out there that im watching except for this. Ive been on their website but cant find min system specs, have they released that at least?

    Lets see if hes right!
I remember reading a blurb that if all goes well, EA will start the same day the Steam page comes up. Looks like that has changed now.

"However, if a nearby player dies to a hostile creature or takes a long trip off a short cliff, other players can still loot their body."

So even on the pve servers it is a full loot game.   You can watch someone die and not assist them, then be rewarded with there loot.  This should bring out the best in people..

That said, loot may be trivial and not really worth much.  Regardless im going to give it a try i guess.
In SWG stuff would break and you couldn't fix it. This might be to keep crafting professions more viable.
I am with AdderVXI here.  If people can pick up your loot because you die just like they can in Minecraft people will be rage quitting like no tomorrow and this game WILL FAIL because this game will have a low population.  Now if the looting works a little more like UO did where if I died I have 5 or 10 minutes to get back to my body before it decayed to the point where someone else could loot me, that would end up being way more acceptable because you could make a mistake and have a friend come help you out.

The reason I say this game will fail is a game like Dark and Light is trying to be very few and I really mean a very few amount of players have ever played UO or SWG Pre-WOW.  Today's gamers cannot adjust to old School MMOs.  I know I tried to get my MMO friends who never played an MMO prior to WOW into a Pre-WOW MMO, it just does not work.  The FEW gamers who have either A) like me will get really pissed really fast at loosen 3+ Hours of work too easily or B) Find out they can no longer put the endless hours that Sandbox games required to play in 1998 to 2004 will get to the point where they no longer play because it takes too long.  You have to be honest the reason why players played endlessly is because in 1998 it took months and sometimes the better part of a year to max all your skills on 1 character, or B took you that long to gather enough gold to buy a castle.  Sandbox MMOs require TIME SINKS to keep you coming back just as much as Themepark MMOs do the only thing different with Themepark MMOs is they add more Rides.  Sandbox MMOs do not add instances and bosses you can go fight on a whim like a Sandbox MMO.  (I didnt just go randomly take on a Ancient Wyrm UO myself you took friends because shit could go wrong)

Do I think there needs to be Item Decay or a way to loose items so you have to buy another set of gear.  YEP and SWG was a great way to do that.  UO it worked very well because it gave you a chance to get back to your body and sometimes if a friend was near or could Gate to your location could help you out fast.  But a Minecraft like bam your dead and you loose your stuff will piss people off.   The reason why it works in Minecraft it is takes little time to gather your mats.  Yea Diamond is a pain in the ass to get BUT getting a simple set of Iron armor and sword is easy and often times you could have 5 or 6 sets of the stuff laying around.  Now you could do a Minecraft like drop is Mats are not too tough to come by and even your most powerful gear is not impossible to get.

For example an Invulnerability Indestructible set of Armor in UO was a PAIN in the ass to get all the piece to drop, it was also very unlikely you would ever get all the pieces to drop yourself.  So you would go spend hours looking for these pieces.  There were also a few Player run Malls where your likelihood of finding the same set was good, maybe not on the spot but you could get it.  Now you could also easily find a Massive Hardening set fairly easy too.  Most players ran around with GM Made gear unless they were fighting something like a Champ spawn, or like my group a few times fighting Demons.  Most players didnt run around with Invulnerability Indestructible gear all the time and if you did you were in a situation most of the time someone could rez you and you would get it back without someone taking it.  If you could loose it like in Minecraft I could see people quitting the game because it's too frustrating taking strong gear into a Boss fight and having a high possibility to loose it.  You need to give players a chance when gear your best gear is hard to come by to get it back.

Now if I could get a Invulnerability Indestructible set of gear inside an hour or I can have 4 or 5 sets sitting in my house in a chest.  No Problem I will just keep that gear handy.  The problem is that weaker gear becomes pointless and only 1 set of gear is made by a crafter.   Different levels of gear need to be made by crafters to make crafting mean anything.  UO had this problem for a while, you only made GM gear and sold it as a Blacksmith.  You never bought normal gear.  GM gear was the baseline then you got magical gear as you could and full sets of it.  But GM gear was basically the same price and you could buy it in a few minutes.  In SWG you had different gear for different situations.  What where you fighting?  Even lower grade gear sold to new players often.

I really need to see how the gear and crafting is done to say if this instance loose all your gear mechanic will work BUT if it's too frustrating and too painful people will leave in droves.  If it is a pain but manageable, Again having 4 or 5 sets of gear, or you have 5 to 10 minutes to get your gear back, or it is fairly easy to replace the gear then it can be done.

They must be VERY careful how to handle this.

O and BTW I am more in favor of the SWG way of loosing items than the Minecraft way.  SWG I could have a set of good gear for a month maybe 2 then have to replace it.  I had a armorsmith as a friend so Always had 5 or 6 sets ready to go.  But it did keep crafting VERY useful in the game.  Item Decay is a FAR better way of doing what these guys want to do.  If you want full Loot on PVP servers, no problem.  PVE not so much, but I would put a harder Item Decay penalty on the gear.  Like 10 to 20 repairs, Every repair takes 5% to 10% durability loss.  Hell yea I am up for that shit.

Odd choice for a PvE server ,that sounds more like an invitation to grief players by having them killed or knocked off and then go pick stuff off their corpse. Can't say I am thrilled about this development but like I mentioned earlier in another thread ,their combat seems to be a closely guarded secret as well so we will have to wait for more details before making any snap judgements.

I can remember when playing ark on the pve server, you could grab ppl with your bird and drop them. They patched it later hehe
