Civilization Online News - Civilization Online that has been in "soft" launch open beta for about a year in South Korea, is never going to spread to a worldwide audience. According to Kotaku, the official Civilization Online website has been updated with a notice that all monetary services for the game are now shut down and that game servers will be closing on December 7th.

My Review Manifesto
Follow me on Twitter if you dare.
It's almost as if the company just wants to open up the game to "see if it could take off, to make a bit of money and then realizing that it will never be successful, shut it down quickly.
Archord II was like this.
From a marketing standpoint I think that it's damning to have a "soft launch". There isn't enough excitement built up where there is a build up of players interested and they converge on the final "launch". Instead there are early adopters, others waiting to see what happens, and it's almost as if these games limp onto the stage and then limp off.

That Civ license probably wasn't cheap, so they'll most likely try to salvage something from the project.
Is it perhaps possible that their Civ license was only for South Korea ? It would have made it much more affordable, and would also possibly explain why they're canning it instead of trying it on a worldwide audience...
Jake is a truly awesome game designer. Too bad the people who make the business decisions for his game are greedy idiots.
Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.
Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I have hope this game will still manage to release at some point. It looks so amazing and different. Not a WoW clone or rehashed 1999 sandbox with modern graphics. Civilization Online represents the 3rd rail of MMO design.
