Weird. Shutting it down, but not "dead forever"?

These "soft launches" are kind of crappy.

It's almost as if the company just wants to open up the game to "see if it could take off, to make a bit of money and then realizing that it will never be successful, shut it down quickly.

    Archord II was like this.

From a marketing standpoint I think that it's damning to have a "soft launch". There isn't enough excitement built up where there is a build up of players interested and they converge on the final "launch". Instead there are early adopters, others waiting to see what happens, and it's almost as if these games limp onto the stage and then limp off.

Why would a Civ game launch first in SK anyway?

Because the developer is XLGames under the leadership of Jake Song who is best known for ArcheAge and Lineage.

Let's face it, it was a horrible game to start with.  No surprise here.

That Civ license probably wasn't cheap, so they'll most likely try to salvage something from the project.

Is it perhaps possible that their Civ license was only for South Korea ? It would have made it much more affordable, and would also possibly explain why they're canning it instead of trying it on a worldwide audience...

it was an online roleplaying group-based strategy game...i guess and maybe the market isn't ready for it.

Jake is a truly awesome game designer. Too bad the people who make the business decisions for his game are greedy idiots.

*holds head down* Man I actually really wanted to play this game. Oh well, back to face book games that do the build through the ages thing.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I was just thinking about this game today, wondering when it would come to the west. That's a shame, first CivWorld, now this. :(

XLGames sold a license to China, but that version is not due for release until 2017.

This is sad, watching game play videos of this game made it look really unique and different from most MMOs.

I have hope this game will still manage to release at some point. It looks so amazing and different. Not a WoW clone or rehashed 1999 sandbox with modern graphics. Civilization Online represents the 3rd rail of MMO design.

That's probably a good thing as XL Games would have just tarnished the Civ franchise and abused it like a red headed step child beating it over the head relentlessly via the cash shop.

It was a horrible game.  Exactly why they dropped it.  The only redeeming qualtity was they they took it off the net quickly!
