Hero's Song News - John Smedley has posted a short update on the progress of Hero's Song. The gist of the note is that being a start up means having to continually be on the lookout for funding sources and that that has been eating up much of the team's time over the last several weeks since the most recent round of alpha testing ended.

    They could do what Shroud of the Avatar does. They could do 12 hour streams where people can donate money. Give those that donate at least $5 bonuses such as pets the follow you, costumes, etc. Things that won't give you a bonus to things like stats.

    I grabbed it on Indegogo.. like the concept. They went to Early Access WAYYY too soon.

    I'm about 20 hours in and I concur, Hero's Song isn't worth anywhere near $20 even by early access standards. And since they released an untestable product it will be that much harder to secure funding. $med suddenly knows what it's like to be Brad with Vanguard lol.

    Here's my problem. This is a game I soooooooo want to give my money to. Like throw it at them. But, Smedley.

    Really, the fact that I can say that and have people nod and understand...

    I do hope they get the funding because I want this game so bad. But I'm not paying for another 5 year Early Access game. Never again.

    A blank piece of paper has just as much potential. This is broken and boring. Personally F Smed and this can crash and burn for all I care. I really don't think this is going to amount to much. Then again I just watched some streams.

    There are some aspects of this game I enjoy so much and would have no problem buying dlc's, costumes etc but the lack of persistent world where I can play with other people is what is imo hurting Hero's Song. Even if they add only 1 server where I can keep my progress and see other people in the world then I'd be playing this every night, heck, I'd even pay $$$ to be able to do so.

    The classes are FUN to play, the skills are FUN to level up, crafting is FUN, combat to me is FUN but it's a single player game wtf.

    I have been waiting for a game like this for a long time but as an MMO.

    A few ideas for DLC's I'd buy

    Housing DLC - Housing of any kind either instanced or in open world with port back to it.

    Crafting DLC - Unlocks advanced crafting options.

    Everliving DLC - Removes underworld part/removes permadeath

    True Hero DLC - Extra hero advancement in either skill trees or dedicated paths.

    I also think one of the greatest parts of this game is the classes so here are a few I think would be cool to see added.

    Plague Doctor - Throws out bottled concoctions that explode.

    Beggar - Scraggly fellow that emits a foul aura that does damage, attacks with fists and has the ability "Bum Rush" that sends forth others like him in a wave that does damage.

    Engineer - Sets up different turrets that do different things.

    Steampunk - Does Steampunky things.

    This game has such potential and if there's any time for them to act it would be sooner rather than later to make the necessary decisions seeing as people are still more than willing to give this game a chance.

    They could release an arena deathmatch mode, then dump 90% of the resources they have left from the initial funding of Hero's Song into it in an arrogantly misguided attempt to break into the twitch gaming mainstream.....  Oh, hey Smed.

    Nevermind, I'm sure he'll think of something.

    100% agree. Bought into EA when it first launched, but refunded rather quickly when I realized this. There are many great ideas in the game, but the actual game that has formed from them is not what I expected nor wanted.

    Smedley's participation in anything is a net negative at this point.

    That is besides the fact that this game is centered around old ideas that are executed badly.

    Smedley... He failed at Kickstarter then Indiegogo.  I backed this shit on Indiegogo and even then, Smedley, didn't communicate with the backers, at all. Once he had the money, we didn't get any news from that guy., not even ONE update.

    That guy deserve to fail, big time.

    If Smed and the other industry vets on his team actually believed they could create a good game they would have funded it themselves. They don't, so they haven't.

    They collect your money instead of spending their own...Smed talks a good game but hasnt been a MMO factor in years.

    There's a bit of  a discussion on Steam as to whether the game is in an alpha or beta state... We can't agree.  NOBODY feels it is finished.

    The game has lots of potential. And its already good way of getting there.

    I dont get the sentiment of "we need more money" - The game is build ground up as Indie game with lowest possible need for assets.

    The team is probably not getting payed as they are used to during these production times. But thats Indie way. They will get payed once the game launches and if its good - it will make money.

    Unfortunately it starts to sound to me like they are all ready loosing momentum and wanting to bail out. They hoped for big indiegogo and kickstarter bucks - but people are so broken with false promises. Nobody will dish money in front anymore.

    But everyone will buy finished game, if they make it.

    So go on and work on the game.

    Game companies with money are no longer willing to invest in MMORPGs, too much risk, not enough return.

    The "average gamer" knows that's not true ! :D

    That's why KS MMO's are so well supported, the money goes directly to the developers, so... umm... amazing games will be created without the suits and beancounters ruining everything !
