Final Fantasy XV is overall an interesting game which I completely enjoyed and I can’t wait for all the upcoming DLC to arrive. As much as I loved the characters and playing the game, there are some frustrating issues which standout; largely because so most of the game is fantastic. I’d like to take a closer look at issues and examine what the core problem really is.

The only part I absolutely hate is trying to find things on the ground. Mainly the damned frogs.

The frogs were a real pain >< It didn't help that it took me until the second quest to realize there was a frog croaking sound which got louder as you got closer to them which helped. Even then it was a bit of a pain. Though I do have to admit I <3 the cutscene of Noctis catching the last frog each time. There was just something really amusing about it :) Odd none of them made a Frog Prince quip though.

Can't be harder than finding a frog in A Tale in the Desert.  That requires the use of triangulation or dumb luck.  You never see the frog. You just hear it.

    Spoilers here

Here are some things I disliked

Why in the game they don't explain relationships and more of the lore show how his father dies etc. Why do we need to watch an anime and movie to know everything about the game. This makes the game not for first time players yet every time you start the game up it says it. The game just seems rushed.

The game is 100% linear after chapter 8 or 9. Makes the game feel rushed.

The movie makes the ring seem like some super badass powerful thing yet it is pretty damn useless.

No changeable party members and all males. I'm used to FF games to have more than 1 party of character so i can swap the ones I dislike out like Prompto. There is some points the game you have other characters in party but its temporary and short so obviously they had the resources to add more but maybe they were to lazy to add more stuff to add to the ascension grid.

I hate that they made magic have giant cooldowns so you can't play as a mage at all. Sure the ring of lucii is spammable death but 1 spell its not fun at all and its useless vs some enemys.

It's nearly impossible to get game over if you have enough phoenix downs/potions since after you HP goes to 0 you go to a slowly depleteing hp bar which gives you like 10 seconds or more to use a potion on yourself if the bar goes empty you still have 10 seconds to use a pheonix down. If you play on easy mode its impossible to get gameover since a summon will auto revive you except on a few bosses. Having 0 chance of gameover takes the excitement factor of actual danger out of the game.

If you do get gameover it loads the last save there is no checkpoint locations only checkpoints are after quest or resting and i think using fast travel.

There is requirements for you to use summons (fight taking too long, certain scene in the game, party dead or really low hp etc.). I literally beat the game and summoned only during the parts of the story that force you for cutscenes. I had to research online how to summon so i can get the achievement. Supposedly there in 6 but i only was able to summon 3 of those 6 before i got tired of seeing the same one over and over since its RNG and mostly based where you are in the map. 6 summons makes me feel the game is rushed looking back FF7 has 15, FF8 has 22, FF9 has 13, FF10 has 8(but they were fully playable not just cutscenes) FF12 has 10+. All of which you can summon anytime.

The car you can't really drive you can hold one button down and it will auto drive for you. The flying car you can actually control though but requires side quest.

Side quest are horrible fetch / kill quest felt like generic MMO quest and had no meaningful impact on the character or story. Only the base take overs were okay. Doing hunts felt required to be able to afford the next weapons available. I miss the old side quest other FF where you sometimes had no idea what to do and figure it out or they actually had meaning behind them you'll learn about some characters past or other story driven factors.

The 72 hour boss fight with admantoise is actually 30minutes with level 80 characters with best gear and buffs. This boss wasn't challenging at all compared to some of the other bosses in this game but then again this game is easy mode compared to other FF games.

The 13 king weapons are actually really bad since they drain your hp when you attack with it. I feel like it serverely limits your overall options of weapons to use.

Load screens take very long and you get alot of them if you do side quest and choose not to run to your car and drive.

Afaik impossible to get break damage limit of 9999 on normal attacks (not really horrible just makes using some weapons less optimal since hitting 9999 is kinda rare unless you stack buffs or critical)

Progression after you beat the game feels pointless as you can kill level 100+ optional bosses are level 60 it just will take some time.

You can't save in dungeons. Although I think exiting won't respawn the monsters unless you sleep its just annoying to run through the entire thing again to go where you left off. One Dungeon took a lot longer than normal and I wanted to sleep was a bit annoying.

Anyways i got this game for $28 day 1 so i don't feel too robbed. I got my hours worth easy there just is alot of things they should of done instead.

ps. prompto is annoying as fuck

@tonyvuknome Did you honestly think there was a boss fight that would take 72 hours to beat? How would that even work?

I don't think anyone wants a 72 hour boss, but some find 30 minutes to be too short for the optional bonus boss.

By comparison, FFXII's optional bonus boss took like, what, 6 hours minimum?  I forget (you can save mid battle vs him, of course)

Really, 6 hours on one fight? That seems crazy to me. FXII is one of the few I didn't play all the way through. I don't really remember why but it just never engaged me at all. I didn't care about any of the characters or anything which was happening and I wasn't having fun playing so I quit after only a few hours into it.

It's not so much that 6 hours is a long time to be playing a game in one sitting, that's not a huge deal in general. But to spend 6 hours in one fight just seems like after a bit it'd not only be mentally fatiguing but also a bit boring.

"This conversation is triggered by staying at one of the small motels (I wish I remembered which one) and starts with Noctis sitting on the roof."

That is the Longwhyte motel or what it's called, second place after Hammerhead.
