A game or server with a sense of community

I've been having some fun playing WoW, but it's a pretty lonely experience. Basically all of my characters are in ghost guilds -- guilds with lots of members, but no one online except or another loner once in a while. Out in the world when I'm leveling up, I sometimes throw buffs on people (we used to do that in the old days). Or I might ask a question, like are you working on x quest or something, do you want to group for it, etc. but quite often get zero reply. It's weird. And in dungeon pugs, I usually say "hi" at least. Sometimes others do, but it's getting more infrequent.

The other day I was in a pug and a couple of people dropped out so it was just me (dps), the tank and the healer. We almost got the boss down, but died. Afterward, in party, I said "nice heals." I meant it, but I think the healer took it as sarcastic, because when we got two more dps, he refused to heal me after that. It was sad.

Is there a game still (besides EVE) where people still talk? Where you can get into a guild after meeting people in game? Is that culture still alive somewhere?

Thanks.

    Try another server? lol

People talk non-stop on servers like Illidan, Area 52, and Stormrage just to name a few

As for your grouping experiences, those will always vary regardless of the game. Some people don't like to talk, nothing you can do about that.

I think this is more about the guilds you are joining.

I'm on Saurfang (Oceanic time zone). I spent hundreds of dollars transferring to other servers to play with friends who no longer play and I really don't want to do all that again. Though I have thought about playing on those servers since they seem to be busy any time of day. I may check it out.

These were guilds I was in a long time ago. I took a long time off from the game and came back to find them dead. So yeah, I do need to join a new guild. What's the best way to do that for WoW? Use the forums?

As far as people recruiting in chat, most of them are looking for raiders. I'm pretty casual and just like doing dungeons, but not really a raider. I don't see guilds like that recruiting now very often, though there were some right after the launch of legion for a couple of weeks.

I was in a great guild in GW2 which split up. Some went to ESO. I still play with them once in a while. Most of those people are now in BDO.

As a former healer I would have viewed someone saying "nice heals" after a wipe as derogatory, and reacted similarly.

That's what I figured out. Oh well, live and learn.
