1. clearly I had no idea how popular Pokemon Go is(was) despite that I still do not consider it an AR game. 2. super data appears to be a great reference expect when it ever shows VR in good standing. 3. Console game revenue is the bottom of the list out of the three? this is for the third year in a row?

Console gaming will always fall below mobile and PC. F2P gaming on the PC accounts for $19 billion by it's self. That would include Facebook gaming which is considered PC gaming even if regular gamers do not. Farmville FTW lol
and about 4 times a year I end up in a debate with someone telling me console games sell more than PC games. I should just tattoo these links to my ass as often as I need them for reference!

Comparable console games often do outsell their PC counterparts. I guess it would depend on what you're debating.

and nobody in their right mind would debate on that let alone do it without being at least very clear what their baseline is.
meaning
'do PC games out sell console games' is different from 'for multiplatform titles which platform do the games sell the most on'
VERY different anyway....that is all for a different thread

I don't think anyone is surprised about VR , new expensive tech always takes time. The majority of the PC owners don't even have a computer that can can run a Vive or Occulus and the games are still very limited.
Either VR needs a few good exclusive games to pull it people or the prices need to drop dramatically. A Grand Turismo VR for instance would help a lot, current gen VR gear works best for simulators.
Also, VR glasses tend to be rather large and bulky. A 6 hour MMO play session in one of them would be rather painful. They need to become lighter and more comfortable as well.

lol YOU opened that rabbit hole. If metrics are broken out console gaming outsells traditional PC gaming (except 2015 - that was a good year for PC). When all forms of "played on PC" are counted as PC gaming (because Farmville *is* played on a PC) then it's revenue segment is much larger. Lines between PC and console are blurring too with Win10 and XB1.
If I buy an Xbox Live game on XB1 does it count for console sales, but if I buy it on Win10 through the store but play it only on XB1 does it count for PC game sales.
What Sean thinks of as PC gaming and what Superdata is labeling as PC gaming are probably two different things.
Like what specifically? despite what people might want to believe Starmade actually is a PC game. So is Rust, so kerbal Space Program (although i think its coming to console too) so is Cities Skylines and so is Planet Coaster.
There is a very striking difference between these two comments. Do PC games sell more than console games? Do multi platform games sell more on PC then on console?
VERY different, more over, I have read an article that even in the more restricted metric that PC versions in the long run actually do sell more, but on that I cant confirm

actually I read the article wrong. It doesnt even show how much console games made, just digital download unless 'Retail gaming ' means only console. not sure. doing some reverse engineering math I think consoles is a 16bn

I think that retail ALMOST means console now, lol. Just look at the shelf space that PC games get. It's not that they are unpopular, necessarily, but that digital is just so much easier. I did.... sorry, my wife did, buy me a physical copy of Legion for Christmas, though. I think it's the first physical copy of a PC game I've owned since GW2.

its frustrating that the article could not be more clear and better organized. Never the less, I took 91bn and subtracted mobile and PC to get 16bn (correction should be 19bn). Anyway, last year it was slightly over 25bn for console so yeah consoles got a hit this year but to be fair how many so called 'first party developer' games came out in 2016? not many if i recall

So an analyst firm gives us a report that the game industry brought in 94 billion before the year is over. How about doing the sensible thing and wait an extra month to get the exact numbers instead of doing more guesswork.
Iselin: And the next person who says "but it's a business, they need to make money" can just go fuck yourself.

ummm a few reasons.
1. the margin is wide enough that there is an extreeme low chance that its going to change in one month. 2. I think they do these in 12 month cycles but not ending in dec. not sure on that though.
The thing is at least for console vs PC. the results have been the same as far as which is more for 3 years now.
regardless, your suggestion would be better yes
