This may be the first time I've looked at an upcoming RPG list and found almost every title interesting (except for the Dark Souls knockoffs). Especially looking forward to Mass Effect: Andromeda, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nier: Automata, Persona 5, and Scalebound. Those are my certain buys, with some of the others as strong maybes.

Having big hopes for divinity: OS 2, torment: tides of numenera, nier: automata and kingdom come: deliverance. Not sure about me: andromeda, explore a new galaxy with the same species we had in the old galaxy. Expecting scalebound to be as bad as devil's third, protagonist seemed to be a dante knockoff from the rebooted devil may cry and what they showed of the game looked awful.

Surprised that you count horizon: zero dawn as an RPG yet never mention Nioh.

Love playing a vampire game. Looking forward to it.

Hmmm.  Only 2 games are PC exclusive, but 8 (if I counted right) games don't have a PC port?  I'm a died-in-the-wool PC gamer, games developed for consoles are generally too action oriented for my tastes.  But even so, it's nice to have a list of games and target dates.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

It looks like is going to be a great year for RPGs, looking forward Divinity: Original Sin 2, Torment:ToN, Mass Effect 3.
But there are also a couple in the list I didn't know about and attracted my attention.

Looks like it's gonna be a banger year for RPG's.  Personally, I'm excited about Torment, Vampyr, and The Surge.  The Surge is what I've been looking for recently.  The difficulty level of Dark Souls, but set in a Sci-Fi universe... cause honestly I think Dark Souls and all of it's copies look hideous even if the gameplay is great.

Horizon: Zero Dawn - Looks fantastic but won't be getting my money sadly as it's a PS4 exclusive.  I'm not a thumbtick warrior, so I guess I'll just watch some youtube videos of people playing it and give the YouTubers money instead of the game developers.  Too bad for them.  Oh and if is isn't clear yet:  Fuck exclusives.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that Mass Effect should have died with 3.  I'm not even slightly interested in Andromeda.  Maybe when the reviews hit I'll be proven wrong.  Lets see what Angry Joe has to say about it. Usually if he likes it, then I like it.  Although that bastard has been slacking on channel content lately so who knows if he'll even get around to reviewing it.

ELEX - Ok, this one could be pretty damn awesome if they get it right.  Well, at least right for my tastes.  I love the science fantasy type stuff.  It's one of the things I liked about Final Fantasy before they went Final Emo on us.  The idea of equipping a bastard sword and a plasma rifle and wading into combat sounds pretty damn fun actually.

Well, I would go 60/40 on the crap/good percentage personally.

I mean, Space Marine and the latest "MMO" they made were crap along with many others, but Dawn of War, Dawn of War 2, Total Warhammer, Vermintide and Battelfleet Gothic were all pretty darn good.

The thing with GW based games is that there's no middle ground.  I've not come across a "Meh" or a "Good enough" GW game.  It's either really good, or pure crap.  Which I guess is a good thing since I can trust that the good ones are worth the money.

Given the level of inbreeding in game design, production values, culture, and business models, I don't have high hopes for any of these.

Paid alpha launches, DLC and microtransaction ripoffs, poor story, high twitch/low tactic mechanics, spectacular-innovations-that-make-no-difference-and-everyone-else-copies, massive profits for execs and marketing/busdev teams but $hiz for developers and creative content, negligible support for flawed implementations....

Please wake me when I'm proven wrong.

At the risk of sounding rude, Nier was NOT a PS3 exclusive and could be played on the Xbox360. You can obtain a copy even from Gamestop to this day. It just had multiple disks instead of the one.

Mount & Blade Bannerlord should be on the list. Also is Cyberpunk 2077 going to release in 2017 or 2018-20?

Not being a console peasant means the majority of that list is useless to me. Just as I didn't buy DA:I, I won't be buying ME:A. I'm so done with anything EAware, I only login sporadically into SWtOR to get a little satisfaction knowing it cost them money for me to play. Vampyr might be interesting just because it's *something* different. Oh, well.
DA:I was a lazy step backwards for the franchise in all but the writing.  I was flabbergasted when I played the game.  It was like it was trying to be Shadows of Mordor with the action while keeping the DA setting and party.  It ended up being a mediocre version of both.  On top of that, they added all this fetch and collection "content" that became stale in MMORPGs back before Obama's second term even began.  The gamee was mind-bogglingly off the mark considering where it came from.

I do look forward to ME:A, but I won't be pre-ordering or buying on launch day.  I'm going to let the honeymoon phase die down and then check on the reception before I buy it.

No mention of Tales of Berseria? You make me sad. First great rpg to release in the west in 2017. I'm excited for it.

Yeah, I learned like 4 days ago that it was coming out on January 27. It kinda pisses me off lol, so many JRPGs came out in a few months around Christmas and I have so little time to play them all.

You will reward them with money for the bad decision of making zelda exclusive?

It's a nice feeling to look at this list and be excited for ALL of the games on it - well, except for Divinity 2, since I found the first one to be horrible, but 7 out of 8 ain't too bad. I am heartened by the fact that as MMOs continue to decline in quality, single-player RPGs are seemingly starting to boom.

Now I can go look at an "Upcoming MMO" list for 2017 and be excited for exactly zero of them.

So depressing that there is no real title on the horizons with a Roman theme
