YIKES, it's been happening alot on games and alot on here lately. I'm not the smartest person out there and hell, god knows i don't pretend to be. But when 13 year old kids are complaining on someones grammar , spelling and punctuation, it's sad. If they are just doing it to make themselves look better that's nice. but i do think it needs to stop, because before all of the none sense as in i will take diablo 2 for example.. a long time ago, none of us cared. we used subtitute words for =4 and to=2 ... hell we still use "afk" and those aren't even literal abbreviations. so all i can say is if you are flamming someone for not useing proper grammar , spelling or punctuation because you don't know how to respond to something that upset you, PLEASE save it for your mother. thanks

Actually, I think the people who do point out grammar and punctuation are doing you a favor! I cannot stand people who write stupidly on purpose. I love abbreviations, and use them a lot, so that isn't a problem as far as I'm concerned.
I'll just make one thing clear - if you type like a retard, bloody expect to be treated like a retard.

it should be to a point though... because BS... it's just taken to far i think. typos do happen... ALOT... especially with me and 140wpm. All in all i just thnk it should quit , unless someone does have a mind set of one lower in comprehension >.>. but hey, stupid is as stupid does right?

Ugh...that annoys me more than anything I think. Using the number 2, and the letters u and r, instead of to, are, and you, is by far the lowest point in anybodys life.

There has been a steady decrease in speaking and writing skills since televison, and written, news sources have stopped using proper grammar. I speak much better than I write and have issues listening to most braodcast news sources since they just grate my ears.
Tom Brokaw wrote a book on the subject that is well worth a reading, forgot the name though.
That I really agree to. There's so many tabloid papers in the UK now, purely targetted for the under educated population. You can't really compare both situations (online and on paper), but it's true that people are becoming careless...

As the saying goes, if software companies didn't release software with bugs in them we'd still be using typewriters! Even someone with good typing skills makes the odd mistake, imagine the bugs that creep into games because of typos. don't blame games or gamers, blame mobiles and txt spk.

I can live with grammatical solecisms, poor spelling or punctuation provided the person is genuinely making an effort and I can generally understand the gist of what they are saying. What I cannot tolerate is overuse of punctuation in tandem with TLAs [Three Letter Acronyms] (yes, the irony of typing 'TLA' hasn't escaped me :P). I have negative mental images of people whose sentences are little more than, "LOL!?!"".
Unfortunately, this is not the preserve of teenagers because I have seen a disturbingly high proportion of adults unable to express themselves save in SMS [text] speak. I remember a female friend of mine replying to one of my texts with, "Hose dat?". I immediately deleted her text, as well as her number.
I'm not a complete nitpicker as I'm fairly easy going and do use TLAs from time to time i.e. AFK, OTM [On The Move], OOM [Out Of Mana] and the perennial favourite, 'WTF?'. I always greet and thank other players formally and NEVER with a throwaway, 'thx'. People whose keyboard shipped with a stuck CAPS LOCK and whose sole form of communication is via emotes - LOL!?, ROTFLMAO, etc - are generally booted from any group that I am in pretty quickly. Communication requires meaningul content and 'LOL!?!" conjures up an image of the user spontaneously channelling the spirit of Bozo the simple-minded. The thought of having to use TeamSpeak fills me with a mortal dread!
I do find it amusing that in a predominantly textual medium, so few people are equipped to communicate.
