The hype is not real. My skepticism sense is tingling.

Not impressed at all with that map, the world looks small and barren, a little boxed in.

No kidding, that looks rather teeny-tiny to me.

It looks like someone spent about an hour in a map making program (campaign cartographer, etc).

The details are at least a little more interesting. I like the style they went with, but yeah... Definitely not the most inspiring map I've ever seen. Doesn't make my feet itch to go exploring it.

I was there when the first version of this game tanked.

Right now, whenever I read something about Dark&Light I can't help but remember how bad the original fared. Wouldn't it be easier and safer to create a brand new game instead of recycling old names and the bad reputation they have?
The only thing (I hope at least) they have from the original is the lore, since I recognize the map. So why not come up with something new instead of inheriting the bad advertisement that that name will inevitably bring? Or is it that they are using more than just the lore from the orignial?

The way mmo's were: Community, Exploration, Character Development, Conquest.

The way mmo's are now : Cut-Scenes,Cut-Scenes, solo Questing, Cut-Scenes...

This game has an odd marketing strategy .  It's making me deathly curious so it's working as intended.

ROFL. That map is like 2% of Lineage II's open world map.

Yep, cause a map represents the scale and detail of each individual area...

God knows I am critical when it comes to the size of a game world.  I, like many of you, want a large, massive world, but don't judge a book by its cover people.  The map might be a tiny representation of the actual world itself, with all the nook  and crannies to be explored.  Only time will tell.  Lets all hope it's huge

Hard to tell how big it is without a scale of some sort.

Got kinda the same idea as well. But we all know how big Middle Earth is, while there's ot a single scaling reference on the DnL map OP shows...

Get lost in a picture of a map that you can glance over and see it all in about 5 seconds flat?

    Seriously?

It's not even interactive - can't click on anything to get more detail.

If this wasnt from official site - I would seriously call this for trolling.

And to make insult to injury even more apparent - the map is completely uninspiring - no forests, no detail that peaque the interest - it frankly looks like a single ZONE of most games not an entire map for a game.

    Ugh...

This seems a bit melodramatic. Insult to injury? I remember a time when companies did this same thing, slowly teasing details, and people complained then as well though not nearly as much. Then came the time of showing so much, so early, that by the time it released it wasn't as big of a deal. Now we seem to have come full circle except players are more spoiled now, having gotten used to seeing the wizard so many times.

Indeed, I hope the game world is large as well. It doesn't bother me if the map was extremely detailed since there is a focus on exploration. Maybe we'll be able to mark the map ourselves. Other than liking the premise one of the things I like about DnL is that they haven't pulled back the veil entirely. I hope more companies follow suit.

Not really, they are simply going with what they have which is very little. They also said that work done by other studios cannot be discussed which i assume is pretty much ALL WORK lol.

Also my assumption is that they are thin on money,so until they pay those outside studios for their work, they do not own that material. This just assumption of course but i get a real gut feeling this team has done almost nothing to this long lost game and is outsourcing 90% of the work.

It was melodramatic due to the title of the thread:

    "

GET LOST EXPLORING DARK AND LIGHT'S MASSIVE MAP"

It's all caps - and "getting lost exploring" would indicate IMO some level of interactivity.

If the title was "DnL shows off a map of the world" - I wouldn't even make a post - as I'd be like - mmk, cool.

But if you start off with all caps and "get lost exploring" - gonna have to call BS when it's just a static completely uninspiring old map.

Since they also included pictures of various locations in the game I'm pretty sure "map" meant the world. Semantics.

Edit: "as I'd be like - mmk, cool."

C'mon, nothing DnL has been "cool" with you. That's your prerogative of course but please don't act like your unbiased. You've made it very clear you don't like it for some reason and will find any small bit to point out.

Not really, middle earth map looks like a map with mountain range, forest, you see names of regions, cities, It's way more detail it look big, then you see D&L map, you see mountain peaks, a big tree, some stone pillars, and some names, that's it.

I haven't seen anyone ask, maybe its somewhere.  Whats the map scale?

And, yes.  This map makes me think that it is extraordinarily bland.

I also hate how there are usually a few villages, some plains, a forest, then a dark mysterious volcano area where all the hard crap and weird outer worldly demon bs apparently is waiting.  Is there any map not like that?

So what are most of yal expecting? A huge Wow like map for a survival game? At least wait until we get some video footage or a live test to see for our self's.  I was expecting something a little bigger that Ark map and still know very little about the game but I will try it out. I do think though that the lack of information and silence from them on a game that suppose to be released in alpha form soon is a bit ridiculous. The hype is here if you got the goods to back it up you need to start doing it. Another game that dev's don't open up and talk about and share there ideas and goals. Could easily turn out to be another crash and burn title.
