Elite: Dangerous News - Executive Producer Michael Brookes has taken to the Elite: Dangerous forum to let players know that the late Carrie Fisher, best known for her portrayal of Leia Organa in the Star Wars movies, will be memorialized in the next update. A new outpost called "Fisher's Rest" will be added in patch 2.3 when it is released.

    E:D has no direct connection to Star Wars, but was likely in some inspired by it. So an outpost named after her is a nice tribute. Bioware has a larger job of figuring out a proper memorial. While respecting the lore of the game that it happens thousands of years before the movies. I'd rather they took their time and did it properly than rushed something out.

    The timeframe of SWToR indeed is the problem here. But BioWare REALLY should make some memorial for Carrie one way or the other and they should have already made a statement they'd be working on it as well. I mean, Princess Leia was (and still is to me) one of the key characters of the (original) trilogy.

    Elite:Dangerous has enough stars to create ~60 memorials for every living human by renaming star systems. Perhaps they should offer it as a commercial service.

    Yeah but that would be a really dick move if they did that, and they should make it look Star Wars like if they do design the outpost as simply naming it Fishers Rest half the players will truly not understand what it means.

    What has Elite to do with Carrie Fisher?  Sounds ludicrous to me, but these silly developers will do anything to sell a few more games.

    I think you'll find this is something that's done at the fan's request as much as anything. They've done this before for major figures in sci-fi history, Nimoy for example.
    It's also a one sentence post on their own forum, there's no press release or any form of marketing being done by the devs here, this is just other people picking up the comment and running with it.

    As you can see other passing star actors have had tribute stations as well..
    But didn't know braben was going to be working on Elite 4 mmo after his next project goes gold!!

    Just looks like a publicity stunt to me to gain attention from someone's death who had nothing to do with them. Probably an unpopular opinion...

    That's because EA/ware doesn't give a sh!t about Star Wars, to them it's just a vehicle for profit. Maybe they'll add a Leia outfit to their latest lock boxes with a 0.02% chance of getting it and it'll go for 500,000,000 credits on the GTN.

    Making it look like something from Star Wars is a silly idea, its an Eilte game not Star Wars. I also think you greatly underestimate the inteligence levels of ED players, there are many stations allready in the ED universe named after Scfi legends, and i'd pretty much say that 95% of ED players (Scifi fans) know of these stations and the people are they are named after.
