WAR's effect on DAoC

I was curious as to what you think the release of the Warhammer MMORPG will do to DAoC.

Dark Age of Camelot/Guild Wars

DAoC: Arrawynn--37 Sylvan Valewalker--Gareth
Aryne--23 Elf Eldritch--Gareth
Serenadia--17 Elf Blademaster--Gareth

Guild Wars: Summoner Jiro-- 8 Ritualist/Monk
Mila Mandylion-- 5 Necromancer (soon to be Necro/Mesmer)

Each new game released syphons more and more players away. Not just from DAoC, but from all the other games.

Since it aims for the DAOC audience, of any game that is going to be released in the the past or future, this will be the most devistating for the number of active players on at any given time.  I suspect the subscription numbers will stay around the same because of some sort of combo subscription deal.  In fact DAOC might pick up some subscribers because of the combo deal.

If WAR does RvR right, that is add in many of the aspects of RvR that are missing in DAOC that have been asked for, then I think it will keep most of the players.  If for some reason RvR sucks then I suspect many people going back to playing DAOC.

Given what I have seen about WAR, then all bets are on reducing DAOC active player base on a daily level, but total subscriptions will stay about the same.  In WAR you will have longer battles.  You will be able to actually win.  Crafted gear is supposed to be the best.  Crafting will be "fun."  You will be able to conquer teritory and not just keeps.  I see it as an evolution of DAOC, that the developers of DAOC have been too scared to make in an existing game.

I think that Warhammer will take some time away from DAoC but all in all I think it'll serve to add variety to those currently playing, I think they'll add it to subscription similar to the play passes SoE has and make it a viable split time thing.  I think that people that have spent so much time playign DAoC for so long will eb reluctant to go start all over on a new game that is very similar.  I think Warhammer will bring alot of people in based upon the different following and the fact that people that play Warhammer already drop hundreds/thousands of dollars on their hobby already, what' another $15/month?

    Echani,

I never think about it for Mythic in the past, but what you say make sense with how Mythic adapt and react to the MMO market.  The form is purely hypothetical atm, but I am pretty sure there will be an option somehow.
