Ok, I haven't been online much for the last two months, so I was so surprised when saw SWG is dropping in MMORPG.com. I used to play it, and it was fun. The rating was about 8 something, but now it's only 6.4. What's wrong with the game now? Is the new expansion killing it all? Another nerf for profession? I'd like to see SWG gets up to its used to be as I've been recommended it to some of my friends :P

SOE has admitted that they have lost alot of players and that the game is full of bugs. Lots of bad press from alot of media places such as CBS Mailbag and other new places are writing articles about the tragedy that is SWG. Not to mention that SWG Refugees are quick to express their opinions about how the game displeases them which deters alot of new players from joining.
I think the main issue that SWG is dropping is purely bad management. You just cant do a bait-n-switch like they did with the Trials of ObiWan expansion and have people still stick around. Its bad business and just flat wrong. The way SOE has treated their customers is more than enough reason for the game to continue failing.
The game is horribly full of bugs. The Customer support is the worst. With no leadership in game design the game is floundering. Its sad but its true.
The game is fine. Large influx of new players and empty servers are myths. People just don't know where to look to find people nowadays. There's a publish plan and it looks great! Lots of new cool stuff, like the exciting Bounty Hunting system (without the hunting). The list of positive and great things is too long for me to post here.

I started SWG a little over a month before the CU hit live so I wasn't as wedded to the pre-CU as some players (though being on hiatus during that month I was able to put in a lot of hours). I thought the CU was not ready for release and was rushed out (mostly due to the fact that RoTW needed it and it had to coincide with the RoTS movie release). CU fixed somethings that were wrong with the game but broke many others. We were told to be patient and that they would be fixing things. There were persistent bugs both with game mechanics and with the RoTW expansion that never seemed to be addressed and my favorite profession Ranger had been completely ignored in the transition to CU making it stand out as especially weak and overpriced (more skill points than any other profession).
The ToOW expanion hit and it had many bugs (release date set to coincide with DVD release of RoTS). Then 2 days after it hit NGE was announced. NGE made the CU look like a polished piece of programming. It layered a simulated shooter style over top the turn based engine (NPCs still used target lock, but players had to hold their cursor over the target to get the same lock), ramped up character speeds (making character animation seem jerky and hyperactive) and lacked any sort of object collision system (NPCs can stand on top of each other and inside objects). This is only a few of the game play deficiencies of the NGE (and says nothing about the design direction issues that flew in the face of many long time SWG players - such as the reduction of classes to 9 'iconic' and static professions).
SOEs' response to the state of the NGE, be patient we will be fixing it. Yet after 5 months there have only been 2 lackluster publishes. SOE responds quickly to any method that players find to gain XP but very slowly at providing legitimate ways to get XP. They were supposed to go to a quest based XP system, but in the latest patch will be upping the XP of creatures returning the game to its mindless grind of bols and pikets.
As more and more people lose patience and leave, the servers which were already depleted from the bleed that started pre-CU (and I beleive was caused by the persistent bugs and imbalances), accelerated during the CU and hit critical mass when the NGE hit are becoming quite barren of people.
I left SWG when the NGE hit but recently tried a trial period offered me because my account had expired before 11/15/05 (it had ended on the 13th cause I cancelled after testing NGE on TC, but their automated invite to pre-NGE vets didn't account for this) and my server Ahazi which had always been highly populated was barren. The most people I ever saw in the same place was 5 guys pvping in the Corellian capital. The was on a weekend at prime time too, so unless everyone was on Mustafar Ahazi is seriously underpopulated.
So what is wrong with the game now, low population and as always SOE!
