Conan: Exiles launches Early Access on the 31st of January.
Dark and Light supposedly launches Early Access via Steam before the end of January.

Exiles has posted THREE HOURS of game play footage at this point.
Dark and Light has posted TWELVE SECONDS of game play footage at this point.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmm...."

Keeping in mind that Dark and Light original a decade ago was also overhyped, totally didn't deliver what they promised and never fully released... I wouldnt give a cent for this new one

    This information was also released:

In a new developer blog on the CE site, the devs revealed a number of details about servers and mods. Funcom has partnered with Pingperfect that will host both the official game servers and the private servers that can be rented by players, a service that can be utilized immediately to reserve space for the game's launch at the end of the month.

Servers will be able to accommodate up to 70 players per server with the idea to increase that number at full release.

Funcom will be setting up official servers in the following categories: Purist, Relaxed, Hard Core, Role Playing, Experimental and Random. These servers will be wiped every 30-days.

Players can also set up private servers with admins able to modify and alter gameplay to suit their own particular wishes. Settings enable admins to determing PvP, sandstorms, what is lost on death, day/night cycle, health / stamina of players, resources, experience and resource respawn rates. Adjustments can be made on the fly as well.

Funcom will provide full mod support as well and will be available at the start of Early Access. A special Unreal Engine editor will be available for download that will allow a full suite of tools to create mods. The team has plans to reveal more in the near future.

Love the innovative ideas. And giving players that much freedom must be quite an adventure on its own.

It does not exactly tick the boxes I have when I decide upon a game, like the first person view is not my preferred view.
I love toying with character creation and play the whole dress them up kind of game.
And playerchoice is great, but that there looks a little intimidating.

But otherwise, this game really have some really interesting ideas and ways to give the players a way to design their own game.

Maybe a game for other developers to be inspired from, I hope it turns out great.

I guess the 3.0GHz minimum rules out most notebooks (only the new 7920HQ has a base higher than that, but I haven't seen it on notebooks yet - true with boost even some i5s can jump the barrier), which is a bit odd, based on how well you can scale U4...

Too bad Joel said in the AMA they're deeply tied to Gabe   so I'm on the fence currently with Exiles, will wait the full release and then I'll see.

Sounds like another smart Buissness decision as AOC and TSW ... there must be a way to get rid of the last AO Players that paid for everything and were loyal till the bitter End.My 2 cents.

    Agreed.

But perhaps they watched the ESO PVP campaigns that launched as 90-day cycles... and were eventually reduced to 30 days...

ARK official servers don't wipe AFAIK, but that produces a whole new set of problems.

Thinking about renting a server but first I want to see some ratings on Steam based on player experience.

It is not Bill! Imagine a player joining the game in february. He'll have to join servers filled with players far ahead of him with better armor, weapons & bases that will make his life difficult. The early days on a server are crucial and it is important that servers don't get bloated with "alpha tribes" and therefore neglecting new players rendering those servers completely barren of players save for the biggest tribes that eventually will leave too due to low pop.

A Month of fun and experimenting is great and when it gets wiped you get to try something new and fresh again not to mention the frequent updates (hopefully they keep to that) that will come with will make the game better for it.

I'm cool with it as long as there is some sort of account progress you bring with you each round.

I have never played a survival game but i will this game. As of the 30 day wipes, will this just be early access or forever? Seems very short to me as well especially for somebody who doesnt log on everday and play. There are times i cant log on for a week so i am just worried about my progression as a player due to my limited play time vs MMOs, if my progression keeps getting wiped so fast.

Glad to hear that they're going with company servers and not peer-to-peer.

System spec is for now or after the optimization post beta?

Was really looking forward to this game, but even if the 70 per server increases to 100 or so that's way too small to keep a hardcore pvper like myself and the guild I'd bring with me interested. I'd even pay extra for a more dedicated server designed to support large-scale pvp, after all 35v35(likely never to happen) doesn't do Hyboria's brutality justice.

Meanwhile, the 30 day wipe is short unless there's a mechanic to keep character progress intact and they're just wiping the landscape (player buildings/items).

Funcoms track record on game problems is sorded at best. There most likely will be problems coming down the road after release.

I was under the impression from the gameplay videos released that 3rd person view was available. Is this not the case?

Wait, what? This is exactly how EVE works, and it is just fine.  I'm all about persistent worlds, and I joined EVE 3 years in and have no issue remaining competitive

But it's a MMORPG, and this is a survival game which I have no experience with, so I'll assume this makes good sense to you.

Just won't be anything I'll play, since it appears to be mostly about quick "fun".

I play for long term progression.
