The Star Citizen site has been updated with a new video that features an interview with a "xenolinguistics" expert named Britton Watkins. Watkins is charged with the creation of the Vanduul and Xi'An languages for the game and has worked on Star Trek Into Darkness among other projects.

    That said, just like story elements, you don't want your general run of programmers and coders to design a language. 

    If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

    Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics.

    It's great to see a team that has the ambition to create the best and has the budget to realise those ambitions !

    Attention to detail is what sets exceptional projects apart from "quick money grabs". The SC backers appreciate that, and understand that "Rome was not built in a day"...

    In my opinion, hiring an expert to develop your alien languages is a cool idea. That gives quality to your finished product.

    I wonder what the publicity value of involving this person is though?

    At the end of the day it won't cost that much, it will add to the game and if it generates extra sales this could be a win-win.

    How to create an Alien Language 101

    Step 1: Scribble 26 Alien "letters"

    Step 2: Assign each scribbled letter to the corresponding English alphabet letters.

    If you need readable Alien language in order to sound more legit, for example like "Vagh huk icm onn?" then proceed to Step 3.

    Step 3: Randomize the positions of the English alphabet with the corresponding scribbled Alien letters.

    For example Scribble number 1 is Letter number A when writing in scribbled Alien letters, but when typing out, the A becomes for example H.

    That will not make a 1 to 1 copy and will be sure to fool even the most critic of linguist.

    Optional Step 4: Produce more JPEG ship sales in order to have better Alien scribbled type face fonts.

    maybe it will work or it won't. I still feel Roberts is making the game of his dreams. An immersive rich universe worth exploring. Fortunately none of the enlightened game designers on these forums will not be influencing SC game design. The same people he scream for something different yet demand that nothing change.

    lol...Is there any doubt now that he has spending all his time playing Hollywood director instead of building a game?
    This is way over done and way too costly wasting a lot of money.You know how much a good Hollywood movie costs?Then you realize it is only 90 minutes of enjoyment,you then realize this is not viable in a game where players want longevity,not walk in with your popcorn and walk out 90 minutes later.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    They don't work on ships,they are outsourced.So the whole big picture is that ANOTHER company is feeding the money treadmill,NOT the SC team.This here si what the SC team has been forced to do a LOT of because Chris has always wanted to be a Hollywood director but is no where near talented enough so he BUYS his own way in.

    This is wrong. They are the ones who work on ships, within the UK and LA studios, you can easily find the many updates on ship status, behind the scenes and such you'll see the CIG employees on them and you even know wich designer is assigned to X wich ship.
