It looks like a freeware game,to ask 40 bucks as everyone else is saying,is way overboard too much.
early access but it is out 24/7 and acting like it is a finished released game,so the EA tag is at this point meaning what?
Just in case someone comes around and says the game is not that good,we can say "hey it's early access".When YOU the developer feels it is worth 40 bucks,it is no way an EA game,it is a finished product up for sale.Every single game ever made on this planet could claim EA if they plan on adding anything at a later date,Wow...FFXIV could both claim to be EA.

This simply is a game with a set price tag,to construe definitions in any way would be an injustice to the truth,it is not a pledge ,it is not EARLY access,it is a game for sale ,$40 bucks and you can play it.

How much value would i put on the game ?definitely no where near 40,to me it is worthless until it is officially released and not under the FAKE guise of EA.Then when they are willing to stand behind their game as a finished ...quality product ,i will dissect it and give it a value rating, a so called worth.
I can tell you right now,it looks really low budget,so it is never going to be worth more than 10-12 bucks.A year from now they will be begging for people to play it.At $40 it's worth right now is 1/10.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Hey I have a neat idea. How about stop showing camera angles and views that are impossible to achieve in the game? Or is false advertising just one of the Shard's devs MOs?

    Hardly a fly by night.

These are old Ultima Online developers.

This gets thrown around way to loosely , all these guys were way late to UO party , and just worked there , mostly after 2005 , UO DEVOLPERS Garriot , Long and co . laid all the ground work, and honestly as a player of UO for goin on 20 years , The content and development went down hill after they left , Thru the 2000s the bastardization of Britannia grew each year to nauseum levels (FFS there Elves lol), Only the ground work that the real developers(Garrito LOng and co.) laid is what still keeps UO faithful there and Britainia alive ....ANd from my experience , and still giving the benefit of Alpha and on the fence , Shards is no UO .............nope

I really don't understand why Shards is drawing so much ire. To each their own, but I for one am still excited about this game. I spent a couple hours playing today and I couldn't help but smile as I was filled with nostalgia from my UO days.

Everyone seems to be old UO dev.

I got shards online "million years" ago. I want to supp indie games. But asking for 40$ all the time for a product that is clearly not even close to be finished... Maaaan.... My support goes only as far as me paying. But I cant recommend it to more friends. Price tag is the sole reason!

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

Nobody is forcing anyone to buy it. People who want to play will pay. Nothing is for everyone, whether it's still in development or a fully launched game.

From my professional opinion you are giving more credit to the few and not enough to the many.
Derek, Tim and Bruce are extremely talented game designers.
Not to mention the legend Rob Denton is the game advisor.
Try Linkrealms for a UO clone type game.
Shards is more a spiritual successor to NWN. ;)
Ive played Linkrealms , its not a very good game ,(the fact that its been in beta for 10 years and doesnt have many players at all attest to that )and the other three , were more a part of the maintenance of UO while at the same time contributing to much of the content that the UO faithful consider part of the bastardization of Britania , Elves , Questing , FFS Dailies , Much of the stuff that has ruined UO lore, history and feel ...

I hold out some hope for Shards , but at this point im still pretty skeptical..

And what is the few and the many , Garriot ,Long and Koster are what made UO what it is/was/and continues to hold onto today , anyone else really just added to or maitenenced there work , or some cases completley butchered and abolished there work ..

Wild Tera is closer to a UO clone today than Linkrealms has ever been , and SHards needs to stand on its own merits altho i do see the UO and NWN connections it feels more a hybrid of the 2 which may be a good thing in the end for it

Wow, I'm really sick of all you mmo snobs....yall keep quoting prices for what you think a game should cost....I'm sorry, if you get more than 10 hours of enjoyment out of something...and spend less than 100$....then shut the fuck up, for real. Where do you guys get your value system from? "I'd pay 20$ but not 40$, that's just crazy" ....really? ....where do these figures even come from? Starting to think this site is inhabited by carebear idiots that want everything easy with no consequences...oh and it should be pretty, with no bugs, and free... regardless of gameplay/concepts.....

I haven't played it yet so can't say if it's worth $40 or $20.  I do know there is a lot of competition out there for my money and that's not the only game in town.  Off-hand I don't see anything about it that puts it head and shoulders above it's competition.  It does have some nice ideas but too many unknowns at this point for me.

Am I willing to pay $40 dollars to test it out, no.  I already have lots of games to play even though I'm always open to playing another that fits my playstyle.  Would I try it if they had a open alpha or beta, yes, because it looks interesting.  I would even consider buying it after launch if I read good things about it from player reviews.

I would say that it is you who needs to STFU. What do you think who gave you the right to prevent anyone from speaking their mind??? What is this, nazi Germany of forums? Anyone has the right to moan about the price of the game when most games are f2p. Learn to live with opinions of others or go offline.

I don't know what IRE means sorry,,,lol i am an old fart.

It is not that i can say at least from my standpoint that i hate the game,it is simply not good enough.
I would say and again not speaking for anyone else but the $40 price tag brings about some distaste in the mouth.
What they are doing is seeing if they can fish people in,eventually they will realize that 40 is way overboard.

If they would ask fair value then it would go ever much better, instead this labels the developer as a con artist and will chase more away than it brings in closer.I like good fair honest people if i don't see that, then i get not angry but unhappy.
