imageFive Great ARPGs for Busy People - The List at MMORPG.com

I was talking to @BillMurphy earlier today about what he’s been playing lately and we got started talking about action RPGs and how great they are for busy parents, extrapolating into how fantastic they are for anyone with limited time to play. MMOs, while magnificent and are our passion, tend to demand more time to feel as if progress has been made, hence the easy joy that comes out of ARPGs.

Path...on a list of games for "busy" people?

    ...Why?

I truly miss the Torchlight series, not sure why the development team decided HOB was going to be the answer to our Torchlight 3 dreams, hopefully they get back on track after HOB is released.

I consider myself busy, I play games 1-2 hours a day, if lucky. I still like to dabble in MMOs but you're correct with 1-2 hrs a day I don't get far. Playing D3 and MH I do get satisfication, especially with the built-in achievement systems! My main problem with ARPGs is they are a bit repetitive.

If you're playing standard it can be played in small bits, ladder obviously wouldn't be ideal for busy folk.

With this logic any game can be considered great for "Busy" people if you don't care to be competitive or accomplish anything in a reasonable amount of time.

Path of Exile should really not be on this list. It is one of my favorite ARPG's but is not ideal for people with "Busy" lives | in my opinion |

PoE i tried but dont enjoy it , the animations , the gameplay , dunno what its ....

D3 is enjoyeable , but has its own issues that we all know

MH , enjoying it , play a bit every other day , tons of fun

Grim Dawn , meh dont like the world , dont like the classes...dunno didnt click at all

Torchlight II - Tons of fun , but not as much as other , graphics are cartoonish and thats kinda refreshing

-Grim Dawn (Great Deep ARPG without the need for a degree in quantum physics and 47 spreadsheets to make fun characters)
    -Van Helsing Series
    -Victor Vran

There is no such thing as a even a good arpg....just saying :pleased:

J/k j/k carry on enjoy your game,it is just not for me.I actually just tried to see if i could go back and play POE last night,i lasted like 3 minutes and exited,i simply cannot enjoy a ARPG type game in their present day form.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

It looks nice, but is it supposed to remain single player only when it releases as a finished product?

If so, then it is not for me. The coop mode is one of the reasons I like ARPGs.
Multiplayer mode*: Dungeon Challenge and Co-Op................... in development

Not sure why not, PoE can be done in short play sessions, there isn't really any activity in PoE that takes more than 30minutes without break point. Unlike say raiding in an MMO.

Your post is about ARPG's that are for "Busy" people not Game's or MMO's for busy people so that comparison about MMO's and raiding really does not apply.

Any game can be plaid in short bursts, if again like I said, you are not trying to be competitive or accomplish anything in a reasonable amount of time. Path of Exile, as far as ARPG's go, requires significantly more time investment than most.

Just my opinion but I just don't feel Path of Exile is a realistic ARPG for busy people which is what this is about :)

Zombasite is interesting.  Not sure if it's for casuals though since maintaining your own town can be pretty time consumming (and also, save-scumming via constant back-ups of your saved game is recommended for casuals)

I recently got a job as a Web developer and barely have any time for games any more. I 100% agree on D3 being in the list. I usually play for less then an hour a day.

I picked up Zombasite and Drox Operative on Steam sale recently. Soldak is the one of the few game devs that actually do something different with the ARPG genre.

"games that can be played. . .with a baby in one hand."

    one handed gameplay?

    D3? maybe normal difficulty.

    Grim Dawn? no

Path of Exile? HA HA. . .no

Marvel Heroes? probably with some playable heroes/villains

Torchlight? I dunno, I cant remember this game at all.

EDIT:I should clarify that the players we are talking about are busy family people. . .so they are not gonna spluge money of getting a 600+ button mouse.

Probably Dark Souls series, Sacred games, Diablo Series, Titan Quest, Baldurs Gate.

I always wanted a full online multiplayer version of Torchlight.

^ I thought that is what Devilin is supposed to be?
  • Tiamat64Tiamat64 Member RarePosts: 1,545
Well, there was Redstone, which was pretty nice if it weren't so ancient and antiquated (the base gameplay is as slow as Diablo 1, and in this day and age you will likely not find that a good thing)

Devilian wasn't really an ARPG.  DMKano would constantly remind people about that :P
  • Kevan_fKevan_f Member UncommonPosts: 65
poe for busy people? not even d3 fits the description, because of endless pl and gr.

no full online game is for busy people.

After eschewing the last MMORPG I was into over their RNG lock box bullshit I recently found myself back in Path of Exile. Fun game, easy to get into, but I find myself missing persistent world features such as deep crafting. Certainly someone could find a way to marry MMORPG and ARPG features together. And yes I know that both Albion and Shards Online kinda of do this, but they're both still heavily in the development stage at this point.
Guardians of Ember is up , can play to lvl 40 , fun game , interesting builds .. cant craft to lvl 30 tho and they have housing etc ..
