well i think the "Regular" one is called fantasy lol..... and yeah, i would be going fantasy al lthe way. why? because if 40k were to go against fantasy ( and yes it has been done) fantasy would win. becasue YES 40k has guns and high ammunition BUT, with magic you can save yourself from that.and invulnerable saves in 40k only are meant from penetration shots of AP... not magic... and the ward save doesn't specify excpet from all piercing attacks, meaning anywhere from magic o bullets to arrows.. heh but my vote is with fantasy all the way ^-^ even though 40k is fun fantasy brings more of a greater effect to my mind.
Both are great. I think I like the Warhammer races more than the 40k ones though. Dwarves, High Elves, Skaven, Lizardmen ect are great. For a MMORPG Warhammer was the right choice in terms of amount of content.
Fantasy all the way for me. But that's mainly because of the scale. Fantasy is a world, maybe at the size of our's. 40K is millions upon millions of planets, which, imo, makes it less fun from an RPers PoV. I've been playing Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying Game(1st+2nd edition) for lots of year, and that game can really capture your imagination(Both the system and the setting is by far superior to D&D, Ebberon, and Forgotten Realms imo). But sadly, it pretty much seems like that Mythic wants to remove the whole roleplaying aspect of warhammer, and turn it into a faction vs. faction war(And we know, that some of the greatest 'battles' are among their own faction, civil wars in the empire, the corruption within Sigmar's holy temples, the witch hunters that stalks the freaks...), which is a shame! The old Warhammer online sounded much better, it actually only took place in the Empire. With some depth to the classes, a nice housing system, a guild system that actually mattered and such, well, it could become one heck of a MMORPG! Imagine the local thief guilds going in an all-out war on each other, imagine the bounty hunter tracking down a vile murder, imagine the order of witch hunters purging the weak-minded people influenced by chaos down.. Now thats interresting PvP!
"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."
I'd play either, enjoy both pretty damn equally. I don't doubt that in the future that they'll make a 40k MMO, it would have an impressive following as well.
Both are good choices but I voted 40K because fantasy is getting tired, regardless of how it's done. The market is getting overrun with Fantasy in my personal opinion but I will say this....
I'd play either too, I've played WHFRP for year (seems like decades!) on and off and its always been a great world (of perilous adventure ), but I'm no great fan of Sci-fi games as I've never found one that I gel with, that said if 40K were rolled out it would be on my buy list as even the sourcebook has enough world depth to form decent lore.

From an MMORPG standpoint, I'd have to say that Warhammer Fantasy is a much better choice. Just because of all the character customization that is displayed.
In a group from Fantasy you see a regiment and they all are wearing roughly the same thing, but there are always differences among models.
In a group from 40k they all have the same armor they're just posed differently.
So from a character customization point of view Fantasy is a much better choice. A larger variety of weapons as well as armor.

old school warhammer is better for mmogs then 40k simply because FPS mmos suck there is always that one person who has that uber gun that kills 30 people in 1 hit. where war your lucky if you can solo 1 person haha
hopefully they kept it close to the TT as possible i hate when console games take a great game and ruin it with a lot of boring junk
oh and IF ANYONE DARES CLAIM WOW IS BETTER THEN WAR i swear to Sigmar and whatever lame god that person warships to take their system, deep fry it and ram every last chip down their throat!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111
I'm a much bigger fan of WHFB because it requires more thinkin and stratagy than 40K. I find it hard to play a game where 80% of the time he/she goes first wins. In fantasy things can change in a single turn very easily and I love that.

I voted for "regular" otherwise known as Fantasy, however, if 40K was done right, say with the Space Marines being simply guards and factional pets or such and the game was set up something like Inquisitor, Necromunda, or Gorkamorka, then I think it could be a great game. As you rise in facitonal standing, or PvP capability you would be able to call a Space Marine, or two into battle to help you. Same goes for Chaos Marines, as well as Warp Spiders for the Eldar and maybe Mechboys for Orks. Every race could have a specialized troop that they could have as factional pets. Who would be awarded for service to your respective faction.

OMG i could so see a game based on gorkamorka haha who wouldnt want to see mass orks rampaging all over a map HAHAHA!! sucks they had to combine that game with 40k
but i dont know about marines being pets @_@ thats not kind of the way a marine would work.. after all they are the elite of the elite and i wouldnt want to PO one hahaha
but i would love to see the necromunda and gorka games haha they rocked as a TT :P

Well, "Pets" would simply mean how they react in the game, I don't mean that they would litterally be your pet. It would more pertain to your rank within the Imperium. Such as if you were a lowly Techpriest, you probably wouldn't have many space marines helping you out. However if you became a High Lord of Mars, that would be completely different, you may even have a whole company of SM's assigned to bodyguard duty. It would depend on your status.
40k hands down in my opinion. I like good old fanatsy Warhammer and all, but 40k is by far my favorite. I also completely agree that the market is so over saturated with fantasy titles that 40k would have been a nice change of pace. Though I will admit 40k would have presented a more difficult challenge to mold into an MMO.
I'd go with warhammer, I've just played it longer and gotten more into it because of that I think. Theres a lot of parallels between the two that I've noticed though. Eldar and elves? Orcs? Chaos? Dwarves and those motorcycle midgets they had in seccond edition. but yeah, its hard to decide but I'd go 40k, theres more variety to it because you can just say you're on some other planet and change the scenery completely, plus, you cant beat nids

Definitely 40k it's just more vast and better plot in my mind and also I'm a sci-fi nut from the moment I came out of the womb.
