Just a small clarification: the Italian localization was not a stretch goal, but was promised as part of the base goal. The game went gold a few weeks ago, but we only found out about the cut localization this week.

I was really surprised that they talked about Italian localization at all, it really isn't the biggest language in the world...Then again, a nice gesture to offer refunds to those that wouldn't have bought the game without it. A shame though to get it refunded, so far I am quite impressed by it all, and the crafting part really wasn't needed in the first place.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

In addition, the crafting system has been completely removed from the game. As inXile’s sear claimed, the crafting system did not fit Torment’s gameplay, which is why inXile decided to completely remove it, despite the fact that this system was promised via another stretch goal.

If the game is good it does not matter what they took out or was unable to put in. So many games these days promise so much and deliver poorly so yeah I will forgive them anything if this game is good.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as they are willing to reimburse players for either issue then it's no harm no foul.

This is development and developers sometimes need/want to cut things.

However, if people gave money because those things were going to be included then they owe it to those players to give them their money back.

I'm okay with this.  Sad for the Italian players but, sometimes things have to be cut.

The crafting system would have been a great addition but, yeah.. we don't need an MMO crafting system in our CRPG.

Going from 9 to 6 companions is sad but, If I were a betting man, I'd bank that they will appear in DLC/Expac content.

First up you notice he was very careful to use the term "slightly" less rather than say 33% less 1/3.
If you also pay attention he said according to "Planescape Torment".Well if they had figured using the first game as a ,what's the term,a template, then why offer up 9 at all,why did they not use that exact same excuse from day 1 before promising 9,so why not 6 right away?

Well simple shimmy of it is,that offering MORE,more promises always gets you better results from funding.
Crafting? Wow that is a biggy, you don't even have a rpg anymore, your removing depth from the game.
So imo the real truth is they can't do it because they over spent and want to get this out making more money because an official release can sort of incur a sudden influx of new money.

Bottom line is i don't buy their nicely worded official press release.

PS....Do people not realize who the CEO of this business is?The guy is RICH $$$$,he did not need a single penny to build a game. Then to come to gamer's and exploit them for money to build a darn video game is just wrong.IMO if you are a struggling ,no money kind of person that just wants help to make a game, fine but not rich people, exploiting others.
Seriously now,how can ANYONE trust a guy who has tons of money to build his own freeware game but is too afraid to do it?
It;s like a guy tells you he has a hot tip,put $10 on horse number 7,then you say ok you first and he says umm sorry gotta run.

There are issues with kickstarter, developers overpromise things but they don't cut things because they enjoy to remove things from the overall game, they do it because it doesn't add to the game.

There are far too many singleplayer RPG that has crafting which exist for min/maxing characters instead of adding depth to the game. Companions should add to the world and the plot, if they don't do it they are better off cut. There are still enough companions to fill the party and I don't want to have one that is an empty seat.

I still regret that I didn't pay the kickstarter money, even more so when I hear about a developer that prioritize the right things.

An this is why I don't do kick starters or crowd funded games even though torment was one of the best early cpu rpg games like EVA!!!!!!!

  • AsamofAsamof Member UncommonPosts: 824
This is why kickstarter stretch goals are such a dumb idea. It's all about quantity over quality.

How many kickstarter games with potential screwed themselves over by promising too much?
  • ET3DET3D Member UncommonPosts: 330
That's why I back based on concept and not details, and also back knowing that there's a good chance the game won't turn out to perfectly match every detail I envision it will. I backed Torment with the hope that the game will have a good story with good characters in a fascinating world. The rest is not that important.

Because when you start a business you don't really want to use your own money in the business of you can find other funding.

It's not only that. In fact, InXile (and Brian Fargo personally) put a lot of additional money into the games. But without getting external money the project would be much more limited. Nobody (in their right mind) goes spending millions of dollars on an exceptionally ambitious project not knowing if people want it. When people put their money up front, they tell you that there's demand, and provide the means for a much expanded project.

Of course, these people are putting their money at risk, but they're also enabling something that otherwise wouldn't exist, or would be quite different.
