Hellgate News - Hanbitsoft is working on a new game based on Hellgate: London that will bring the futuristic shooter to single player virtual reality. According to MMOCulture, Hanbitsoft is creating a focus testing group to give Hellgate: London VR a go on both consoles and PC. The game is being developed using the Unreal Engine 4 with players taking on the demon invasion in an effort to protect Templar Jessica Sumerisle during events that take place prior to the original game's timeline.

The original game was actually okay. Couldn't play long enough to really judge it, but from what i saw then it was a lot like a sci-fi Diablo - exactly what it was supposed to be. It just wasn't good enough for a subscription, and then the following years everyone dealing with it made horrendous business decisions.
I somehow doubt that the various new projects for HGL will work out..
I'll wait to the day's end when the moon is high
And then I'll rise with the tide with a lust for life, I'll
Amass an army, and we'll harness a horde
And then we'll limp across the land until we stand at the shore

If they wanted to keep general ideas from it, fine but the name do have a not great reputation, be that partly undeserved. So I would certainly at least change the name for that reason, more then a few potential customers will like some here already proved think "didn't the original game fail?" and that is not great for an upcoming game.
As for VR being a failure, the technology is still very early on. You could certainly say that cars were a failure before Model T came out but the last word was not said then it isn't said yet about this now either.
VR might of course never take of, there is certainly a possibility the AR will become the thing in the future instead, or some kind of holographic screen but some type of this technology will eventually become big.
The risk is to invest in a technology too early, one of my all time favorite gaming companies, Cinemaware, put all their money into CD roms way too early and it lead to them closing down. If they would have waited 3 years they would have gotten a huge payback instead and I feel that VR currently is at that level as well. You want to get in early but not too early to cash in on things.
HG:L is a game made for VR. Everything good about it would be enhanced in a VR environment. Almost everything bad about it would be fixed by being remade in UE4. So yeah, if they do remake this game in VR, be prepared for to IRL scream on occasion!
BTW, I had about 500 hours into alpha testing this game, and about 150 hours into beta testing (beta was too short). I have no doubt that if they would have kept the game in the oven for even 4 more months it would have been a commercial success.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
