A bit of history ala Wiki. Crucifixion has a home long before and even after Christ. That one crucifixion doesn't get to remove it's use for all of eternity in media/games/literature...etc. just saying.
The Greeks were generally opposed to performing crucifixions. However, in his Histories, ix.120–122, the Greek writer Herodotus describes the execution of a Persian general at the hands of Athenians in about 479 BCE: "They nailed him to a plank and hung him up ... this Artayctes who suffered death by crucifixion." The Commentary on Herodotus by How and Wells remarks: "They crucified him with hands and feet stretched out and nailed to cross-pieces; cf. vii.33. This barbarity, unusual on the part of Greeks, may be explained by the enormity of the outrage or by Athenian deference to local feeling."
Some Christian theologians, beginning with Paulof Tarsus writing in Galatians3:13, have interpreted an allusion to crucifixion in Deuteronomy21:22-23. This reference is to being hanged from a tree, and may be associated with lynching or traditional hanging. However, Rabbinic law limited capital punishment to just 4 methods of execution: stoning, burning, strangulation, and decapitation, while the passage in Deuteronomy was interpreted as an obligation to hang the corpse on a tree as a form of deterrence. The fragmentary Aramaic Testament of Levi (DSS 4Q541) interprets in column 6: "God ... (partially legible)-will set ... right errors. ... (partially legible)-He will judge ... revealed sins. Investigate and seek and know how Jonah wept. Thus, you shall not destroy the weak by wasting away or by ... (partially legible)-crucifixion ... Let not the nail touch him."
The Jewish king Alexander Jannaeus, king of Judea from 103 BCE to 76 BCE, crucified 800 rebels, said to be Pharisees, in the middle of Jerusalem.
Alexander the Great is reputed to have crucified 2,000 survivors from his siege of the Phoenician city of Tyre,[70] as well as the doctor who unsuccessfully treated Alexander's friend Hephaestion. Some historians have also conjectured that Alexander crucified Callisthenes, his official historian and biographer, for objecting to Alexander's adoption of the Persian ceremony of royal adoration.
In Carthage, crucifixion was an established mode of execution, which could even be imposed on generals for suffering a major defeat.
Remember when Landmark got tons of shit for having a 1 click attack skill and nothing else for combat? Turns out if you call yourself a survival game and lower the server cap to 40 then it's okay (as long as you say you'll add skills later and maybe magic).
Too much focus on pee pee (the game not the video). Not enough of the grit that made Conan and Hyboria what it is. Conan wasn't about being naked and edgy. It was a brutal world even without others. It wasn't completely lawless either.
My jury is still way out on this one. Great video again HiveLeader.
I'm quite enjoying myself, but it is my first survival game.
Same here.

I think the world would be a better place if people would check their facts before going on a righteous rant but then there would be less mayhem. I guess we cannot have that it would be too quiet.
To avoid further rants I was referring to the crucifixion.
I agree that some do over react when it comes to faith. However as a Christmas myself I get where someone might be sensitive concerning imagery normally associated with Jesus. The cross is just a symbol of Christs willing sacrefice for our sins, it could of just as easily been a rope and nooses.
Also most people are lacking in historical knowledge. Do a quick survey and you will find many in the U.S. don't know who we fought in the revolutionary war for independence. Point being that many Christians, and secularist, are unawares how Roam used crucifixion as a means of punishment.
So to all you historical scholars on these forums who were offended by the question of 'was the crucifixion necessary ' try responding with less vehemence and more understanding . Respectful discussion as opposed to slants against another's belief, or lack of belief, is more constructive.
Finally, if only Ark had a slong slider, it would be the perfect game. lol

I'll be interested to hear how things progress for you guys. I've not played a survival game either. I've watched my son play ARK on the PS4 but that's it.
Are you all playing on the same server? PvP, PvE?
Do you know what some of the server flavors mean? What exactly does "Purist" mean or imply, etc?
Personally I've just been playing singleplayer. With the lag, lack of full features, etc... I'm just learning the ropes, seeing how building works, getting a sense of the lay of land, etc right now. Once things get fleshed out/fixed I will jump on-line.

as a person who holds a degree in interactive media : you dn't have ot censor your videos , because it is "art" and part of the game. Just flag them as mature.
As a person who makes videos for people of all ages: No, I'll just censor it.

Basically, a friend I met from lineage 2, his father and some other friends of his are on a server. Everything is "on" though he recently made it so that we don't lose things on death.

I wish MMORPG's were more like this. It's really got a good virtual world feeling to it. I'm finding it very immersive. Looking forward to seeing the game progress.
People say survival games should be played more in the PvP way because then it introduces conflict but I find it strange story-wise and immersion-wise that you are running with 50 others trying to get food and build things. It makes more sense that you're all alone and are trying not to die and live.

No, it makes sense. You are in a place fighting over resources.

IMO the censoring of the footage, both pictures and bleeps, makes for deeper comedy. The scaling smiley face is a good example of this.

In my opinion, the only thing that PvP brings to these games is the element of danger. Once you have enough resources there doesn't seem to be any real danger, outside of the player making mistakes. PvP is the element you can't really control.
At the same time, PvP seems to be a crutch for these games too. The PvE aspects of these games don't really seem to have a lot of thought put in behind them. It's the usual whack-a-mole PvE that we see in nearly all games now.

Any time someone brings up my bleeping curse words, this comes up. Cussing is infinitely funnier bleeped.

I think the idea is to never have enough resources, hence PVP with the intended rules. As it's not just about resources, it's also about gaining territory as well as expanding your "tribe". That means destroying others cities, taking their thralls, taking their resources, etc....
How is that a lesser PVP implementation than the DAOC route of perpetually fighting over static keeps?

PvP seems like a natural progression in survival games. Once you craft everything and explore everything you will want other things to do. And as a way to test your newly crafted "Legendary Spear of Man-Sausage".
Unless the Devs continually update with PvE progression / events.
really looking for what this game will bring that all the other survival games have not. besides dongs and bewbs....
Confused about the hype. watched 2 streams.... saw zero pvp. wtf?
People might only want to PvP when they are in a better position that is when they are more powerful. Isn't that what PvPers usually do prey on the weak so to do that they need to get stronger themselves.

You have two clicks similar to Skyrim.. One for each hand :P....
Yesterday i was exploring outside of my typical area (where I've started my settlement). Got chased down by two crocs, ran into a Pict village, and then ran into a ruin outside of it, everything caught up to me there.. It was rather brutal. They even beat my corpse to pieces as I sat and watched.
Yeah, the after death beat down is kind of brutal...I played single player with full nude and was almost hypnotized by the rhythmic bouncing dong and my toon as he was repeatedly smashed by a crocodile. I can still hear the epic music in my head as I remember...so haunting...so I rolled a girl character...I can still see her bewbs, and the rhythmic bouncing as the other exiles killed her...and was not haunted...I am pretty sure that should be wrong, but I blame pornhub for de-sensitizing me to bouncing jugs. Should we class action them?
I might be generalizing but that is the only kind I've met so cannot blame me. Even in Warhammer when I took part in some open PvP they only fought when they were in a superior position able to beat the opposite side down. I could not really call it PvP actually I was doing it for the same reason and I don't PvP generally but since I had nothing to lose I threw a few spells too. I watch other games on youtube I see the same thing so I guess I am just assuming that is the norm.
Isn't it natural human behaviour to always buffer yourself from loss so getting stronger is definitely normal for people before they engage in something risky.

Currently the game has several options for server hosts... i.e. PVP/PVE...how many people allowed, where they are allowed from (not to get political, but yes you can allow/dis-allow specific regions) how fast experience is gained for different things, nudity, how fast food spoils, how time passes, etc... so there are options. I think once Unreal approves the creation kit we will have a better idea of how specifc these flavors can be. Once you have servers that allow specific mods I think there will be even more diversity.
Pvp games have a couple of months where the pvp is balanced. Eventually one side becomes dominant and then most just reroll to the side that is in power. Thats how the pvp goes in a MMORPG.
If I buy this and host my own server will I suffer all these problems like lag, rubberbanding, my server disappearing I keep reading about that on the Steam forums people saying server gone and other stuff?
