Looking for an RPG game

tadaskatadaska Member UncommonPosts: 7
I used to play Lineage 2 many moons ago and loved it. Now I want to do some chill out playing again but feel L2 is a bit outdated plus I fancy something new. I tried Tera but it has corridor maps which to me is a big no. I also tried Black Desert briefly but it also looked like it has corridor maps and grafix are very loud and colourful and way too many NPCs. Archeage gameplay videos on Youtube don't look too bad but a bit too brightly coloured maybe. What can you guys recommend that is open world but no corridor maps, hopefully without the eye hurting bright colours and ideally has a nice magical world. I don't want to download another game just to find out I don't like it.

Thank you!

    FF14, ESO or Project Gorgon

FF14 looks good, will give it a go with their free trial and see if it's worth the money.

    Thx

    @tadaska

FF14 is worth a try. But it's nowhere near as understated as L2. It's world and quest design and progression is a lot more akin to modern mmos. Doesn't really have open pvp either. And you also load from zone to zone - not a truly open world. Haven't seen any world raid bosses either.

Haven't tried the other two suggested myself.

I didn't like FF14. Like you said, not truly open and too much colour going on the screen when fighting. Will try Archeage next and see what that one's like.

It is not open world though, if you feel BD has too many corridors, FF14 will make you feel like you're in a broom closet.

ESO is probably a better bet for you at this point. art style is not nearly as colorful and flashy as Asian games.

So, are you looking for an RPG or an MMORPG?
didn't realise there was a difference, I think it's an MMORPG then

I downloaded Archeage last night so will give it a go first and if I dont like it ESO might be next. Too much bright colour hurts my eyes and gives me a headache if I play a bit longer.

I dont think there is really.
Have you tried GW2 ? I just got back into it this week and its very imersive.
They dont have any role playing servers but im sure there's role playing guilds that you can join. Pretty much any game has them these days.

Black desert  does not have corridor maps and you can change the look. Go to settings and try different filters.

you can even make it black and white if you want.

Maybe I judged it too quickly but when I first spawned it was all big hills surrounding the place and no wide open spaces. Which usually indicates corridor maps like Tera if I remember correctly. Anyway, ArcheAge is looking good, I think I will stick with it a bit longer and see what's it like.

That's fair, but to repeat. there is nothing corridor like about Black Desert. It's as open as you are going to get. You can even climb a good many mountainous areas.

If AA is not going to work out I might give it another go  :)
