... and that last 5 seconds of the video?

Your typical experience you will encounter, when playing Star Marine. BLOODY SNIPER CAMPERS!

    Campers you say?
    Bwhahahaha!

A cool piece of tech released upon 2.6.1 is how the loading Screens are starting to going away as the MegaMap is being released:

My loadings are even faster than on the video, 3 Seconds to the Hangar and 5 Seconds to one Arena Commander Match. Remember when playing Arena Commander was a 5 minutes snack-break on loadings? :D

Strange, I could swear Christ Roberts said 3.0 by year end. And now it seems its not until next year...

So is this 3 games in one? Like a persistent world but with lobbies for the other 2 games?

Looks that way. there's star marines, a racing mini game, an area game, two solo survive enemy waves games, and the PU, I think. Not to forget the single player game.

Three games.  They gotta finish these three games together to combine into one game.  ....probably more depending on what you count as a game.

Hahahaha. This is just too much.
Il just go play any of the superior other spaceship dog fighting games, play any other first person shooter game (the new space call of duty?) oh don't forget call of futy is "2" games! I can play solo story mode as well hahaha. Then il creat an avatar with the same name on fantasy mmorpg grind, combine them into one! I have created my own game! Hahaha what the hell is this?!! 10 ways to play the game??? Looking at your ship in a hangar is considered a stand alone way to play the game?? I have a feeling they will continue with this direction and just say it was too hard to combine everything, so what exactly can you do in the PU at the moment , just fly around? If you can everything of the above features in the PU, then that's pretty neat. But i mean, now, can you do that now? Can you have quality fights in an open universe, invade a spaceship and murder everyone from the inside and take their stuff?

A wise man once said that the only two things that are infinite are the universe and human stupidity. I think we might have to add the Star Citizen development to that list, although I suppose you could make a pretty good argument that it falls into that human stupidity category in many different ways.

Reading some of the comments in these SC threads certainly illustrates that most convincingly, lol

I'm still confused as to what Star Citizen is or what it's supposed to be. This video isn't helping clarify that observation at all. Is the PTU going to be a culmination of everything seen here? By the looks of it, Star Citizen is a multifaceted conglomeration of several separate games, not a heavy feature persistent universe. I'll be waiting for that finished Star Citizen product CR boasted about 5 years ago.

The seperation into modules is only for developing and testing.

After launch it is supposed to be one "seamless" universe where you can fly, trade, do personal combat, mine, craft, explore. One might say that the Persistent Universe is the culmination ... and it is a universe that will be worked on and expanded for many years with more features, more planets, more systems.

That you can train ship combat and personal combat in separate modules ("Arena Commander" and "Star Marine") is for testing. In the full game it is necessary, because Star Citizen has a kind of permadeath/transfer-possessions-to-your-avatars-heir system. So there will be simpods (=simulators) in the game where you can practise ship combat and personal combat ... in these simpod-"games" you can die as often as you want without triggering the permadeath. You can try out anything you want and can make stupid mistakes and learn from it. But in the persistent universe with its permadeath, you may think twice if you want to storm and recapture that pirate station ... as you may pay a heavy price.

Only now during development and testing.

In the Persistent Universe you will be able to play "Arena Commander" and "Star Marine" in sim-pods for training (see my longer post upthread).

Yes.  All the mechanics available in the modules work in the PU right now, but there is currently no "stuff" to take.  That will be with 3.0.

"Everything" - can you do that now ?  --> Partially. CIG is continually adding stuff (as is usual for Alphas)

    Quality fights --> yes

Invade a spaceship --> technically yes, as you cannot lock the ships at the moment ;-)     (After they ARE lockable, you can hack the doors or blow a hole).

Murder everyone - partially (possible in certain areas)

Take their stuff - not yet, but will be possible.

    Have fun

Hmmm thanks for the replies,I am a believer! i Actually have a little hope now,if these features are already half way implanted I guess it is pretty safe to say they might actually pull this off?
The only problem left is a strong enough server+technology to hold everything online together without any gimmicks ....

True, infinity and a number beyond comprehension are not the same thing.

The fundamental mechanics on which the gameplay is based upon: FPS, Ship Flight / Dogfighting is the very core of the game, that's already around.

That's the base mechanics that set how you play the game, what's currently missing falls a lot on 3.0 that is a full solar system and start to have systems to generate content (missions) and have the first iterations on economy starting with cargo/trading.

The current Alpha is mostly a sandbox where while you can do stuff as get inside a player's ship and kill everyone inside, the boarding feature is still to be released.

The video is from December, and hardly related to the news. Poor quality article. Should have emphasized on the monthly report instead of a video tag that's larger in pixel size to the article. Could have summarized the monthly report. Sorry to rant, but really low effort and it shows.

I used to understand CR's desire to fulfill his vision and take his time but rate of progress has just become ridiculous. Does he not understand the concept of an mmo? No need to release everything at once for us, leave room for updates and expansions and release the game already.

Did you expect that the development of two Triple-A games rolled into one will take anything less than 5 years, starting from scratch ? (with no existing studio infrastructure and almost no personnel hired and trained)

    I did not.

My prediction back then was 5 years minimum, which means end of 2017 for first results (in that case Squadron 42 solo game launch).

The way you suggest it to be done is the way Elite Dangerous is being released (another game i very much like). But SC is developed differently. Its interesting to compare the two models.

    Have fun

    PS:
It is not an MMO. Its a multiplayer game with instances, but not a massive multiplayer game. And its has never claimed to be an MMO.

    ..

Totally agree. Both have advantages and disadvantages. EDs model capitalizes on initial hype and then relies on the game they have "right now" being able to sustain population while they finish implementing all features. SC is relying on their ability to maintain hype in order finish the entire game prior to releasing, giving customers the entire experience.

I don't know if you could say one is better or worse. SC is anomalous, though, so if ED went the route of SC I don't know if it could maintain the hype long enough to remain viable at launch.

Why is that "strange"?  Sounds like a passive aggressive statement.  If you have something to say, man up and say it.
