I was wondering if they try to catch people who stream from sites (i.e. RSS) instead of hosting. I mean your not responsible of the music. So they would rather take the source down to take down the streams right?
I don't know what this "streaming" you are talking about is. But they usually go for the sources, not the "small" users. Take out the source and the users can't use it anymore. It would just be stupid to hit the people that might have downloaded 3 illegal files in their lifetime. Use alot of money to get someone convicted and forced to pay 50$ in fee. But I think they are starting to develop new tactics now. Like deals with Isp's, so that the Isp monitors your downloads and if you download illegal stuff they shut down your internet.
Ahh ok, I understand. I guess illegal mmorpgs go the same way.
By "streaming" I mean streaming such as music. You know, RSS feeds (XML files) to have music on (all you need is the link). Stuff like that or maybe a flash mp3 player on a site.
This week flash news (on my country) was about sittuations of downloading illegal files and musics. They have talked about those "internet policemans" rounding those P2P programs like emule, lime wire etc, and they say they even share files with other guys who download illegal files to catch them. They act as a normal P2P program user and if they catch anybody downloading any illegal file the fee could reach at 5000$ can you belive?? Maybe is some kind of threat but i dont know why they would do such thing, of course i know nobody cant/shouldnt download illegal files but its just like Phoenixs said: It would just be stupid to hit the people that might have downloaded 3 illegal files in their lifetime.
They also mislabel files so that the file you download is fake. It will stop at say 99% and meanwhile they are tracking your ip for possible, civil or criminal prosecution.
No your good with streaming music and such (if this was ilegal then so would internet radio, think about it), they usually go after the sources becouse like some else said without the source no one else can download, yea they may go after the small people sometimes but rarely.
here is a site i went to a couple times, a week ago it was under investigation, not sure if it got shut down, but here is a screen shot i took when i went there (all the adresses are edited out for certain reasons
