that a website about news... fake games news accepted now?
The unending list of features for this game will be it's doom. Every time I read something about this game I am just struck by how easy it is for the developers to get side tracked. i.e. when they mention lazy characters getting fat. This game screams for a leader who will stop that nonsense and focus on getting a game ready.
They are if the game is not about your "individual character". Some players need to let go of the idea that these games have to be about individual characters.
It's like those players who say "full looting?!?!, Not my hard earned gear" when the game is not about earning gear the same way as, say, World of Warcraft and gear doesn't have the same importance as Theme park/Raid based games.

I'm going to suggest that an mmo can be many different things and that games, music, theater, movies, art, "what have you" all change/morph and take on different guises as time goes on.
I'm also going to suggest that an mmo is more about playing with a large amount of people and can be done in a variety of different ways.
The last thing I'll suggest is that just because you don't like something doesn't mean that others will also dislike it. I can't say that this game, should it release, will have a huge following. But let's put it this way, the "Souls" games are brutal and there are people who hate them (I know a guy who said that he threw his controller across the room five minutes into the first game) and it wouldn't be beyond the pale to hear someone say that they are a waste of time, hard for "hard's sake" yet there are people who love them and who wouldn't agree.
I'm sure the same can be said about this game.
All this game has to do is release (maybe easier said than done) and get enough players to make it worthwhile and keep it running. That will also be a challenge and hopefully the developers are realistic about their player numbers.

"We're gonna do everything and it's gonna be great and we're gonna do it with magic!"
I get the feeling that CoE is going to be the same. Far too ambitious for what can reasonably be done given the team size. I really do wish the team the best, but yeah, just can't buy into CoE at all.

Maybe but I think game is more about intrigue and politics than vagabond hero trope we always play. I don't think all of the features are that hard. Many are just uncharted waters. Someone has to navigate or we will be stuck playing 50 shades of WoW forever.
Some people just can't let a gaming site be a gaming site...NO more that Clinton could resist $150 million dollars from the Russians for 20% of American uranium.
Sorry, it's Friday after a long work week. I'll try harder on the next fluff piece. I promise!

Lets face it, this game has many ideas that sound great in our heads, but like online dating, once you finally see the real thing, you're only left with disappointment.
Good god, this is why games should not be kickstarted: it requires the developers to announce the game. In this instant-gratification culture of ours, people can't wait the 4-5 years it takes to develop a game of this scope to actually play it.
Patience you fool
But here's the difference, his mock of the POTUS was not only hilarious, his joke was relevant (Who didn't read that with an over exaggerated Trump voice!?). YOU on the other hand are the one not letting this be a game site, and your attempt at a retort, falls short. It's ok to laugh, you didn't have to start slinging, it was satire, and unfortunately pretty damn accurate!
NOW, back to the topic, BTW Sovrath, very insightful up above! o/ I would like to point folks attention to a game, that SO many were sure was vaporware at least a YEAR or two prior to it's eventual release. ...Darkfall.... it too was an ambitious project, one that had FAR less to show for it's development timeline, then Soulbound has for theirs. I for one want them to succeed, because it is when something new and different comes along that we see actual change in the same old same old.
To the point of permadeath and PVP not being able to coexist, have you even read their overview on combat?! I mean, there is sanctioned battle, but in the open world...being a lawless 'killer' has consequences, I for one welcome back risk vs reward, it does not exist any more in these games. Fact is they have a good grasp (on paper) of how to bring this back, and it also helps address a very BIG elephant in the room that can be the death of, HAS been the death of a few open world PVP MMOS.
Yes this project is beyond ambitious, but the nay saying, and bashing has become such the norm from the majority of the community these days, it is a wonder we ever see anything make it past the drawing board.
Which makes you a fool, you and anyone who feels this bullshit deserves defending.
PS: Tim they ARE putting out news but it is locked behind the insane DOUBLE paywalls they setup. They have 2 levels of "private" forums. I think you now need to spend $500 (maybe $350) to get past the first, and much more for the next one. As a matter of fact they even just completed their 3rd EXCLUSIVE Q&A for those behind the highest level paywall (I think it's $1,000 but surely someone can confirm or correct). Keeping discussions restricted to the echo-chamber has always worked out well for other development companies hasn't it?

Folks have already decided they like the game enough before it's released to throw more money at it than what they would pay for a gold title. Sunk cost fallacy kicks in almost immediately once they realize not everyone in the world is on team "MMO I pledged" and points out the potential flaws in game systems or the unrealistic boastings of the lead on the project. Resulting us vs. them mentality, backers defending the game not just because they like the idea of the game, but because they hate the idea of having wasted money on it. It's not at all unique to this title, though the devs do seem to de facto encourage echo through the use of private backer only forums. However, I can see their logic in filtering out random, non-backers who may look only to pile on negativity for negativity's sake... Don't agree with their solution though, same as you. Just feel like it's a criticism of crowdfunding itself (and a legitimate one), not CoE specifically.
On the plus side, not having a Like button means that James Goblin doesn't get overly distracted and actually posts here!
More serious... you ain't seen nothing yet. Watch Ashes of Creation which is headed by a Multi-Level-Marketer and already offers 15% CASH payment for purchases of anyone you "recruit" to the cult... err.. I mean game.
