Wizard101 has added plenty of side areas for players to explore through the years. While they're all fun to experience at least once, some hold more value than others. In this post, I'll be sharing which side zones/worlds I think are must-dos, maybes, and ones you could probably live without.

Good thing you say "opinion" because... factually you MUST do Grizzleheim and Wintertusk. Those two side-worlds are meant to be done as you progress throughout the primary storyline. Believe you me, I watch wizards going into areas they really should not be in (IE: Lv35 - 45s attempting Celestia) and get wiped in seconds... when they REALLY should have gone to Grizzleheim to obtain the extra 10 - 20 levels needed to do it comfortably. Otherwise, you better have four wizards and hope to the stars they're competent enough to know what they're doing. EDIT: Also, Wysteria is a crappy world... for such decent gear, why did they have to make a world that revolves around PIGS of all things?

assessment of Waterworks gear is accurate but also shows that KI abandoned QUALITY gear/quests therein after.
Yes i am always skeptical especially if i see any hint of cash shop push or greed and i feel they simply put more effort into cash shop packs/bundles than the actual game.
Point being that after waterworks the rest of the game is simply do it just for the sake of doing it.

Nothing in the game beyond Waterworks was worth it.I was still using low end spells because they were faster and with npc's getting more pips to start, time was of the essence,so the design failed itself. So there was no gear to look forward to,no better spells to look forward to ,just run around looking for yellow markers over npc heads.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

People with influence, need to quit pandering developers, tell them the real problems with games so they get improved.Positive points to a game sell themselves so no need for pandering those ideas,it is the problem areas that need mentioning.
Still the game needs more ways to create a "community" the design just fails community badly.Yes i understand protection of kids but of course this is ONLY abided to because of LAW ,none the less it is no excuse for lack of community ideas ,like guilds or better communication methods.

The problem with zones is that they ALWAYS feel the same,as i said run around looking for a yellow marker over a npc head then proceed to be lead to the furthest parts of the map to create a time sink.So the game needs more mechanics/tools and design features rather than simply sticking to the same easy platform.

We'll have to agree to disagree there. It's a side world for a reason. I personally didn't do Grizzleheim or Wintertusk until AFTER Celestia, and it wasn't because I needed to. I was just interested in the storyline. While some people may need the extra experience, not everyone does. I'm confident there are many players out there who could go through the entire game without doing either. That's why I said it's a matter of how challenging you want the main storyline to be.

GH/WT are de facto necessary unless you're fire; you need them for four different utility spells.

You could probably get fine without WW if you're ice; the Celestia dropped gear is almost as good. In fact, I skipped WW to get a bit less XP.

    Interesting article and well written.

I thought that we needed to complete Grizzleheim get a spell? And Couch Potatoes drop there. I liked Grizzleheim.
