The Secret World News - In today's investor's meeting, Funcom revealed that it will be "relaunching" The Secret World in 2017. The move is being made to "broaden the appeal of the game" and will be accomplished through redesigning the new player experience and by making combat improvements as well as tweaking other game play features. In addition, the veteran program, including its rewards and retention systems, will be overhauled. Relaunch is expected to begin in March.

Excellent news. I'm interested. It's a great game and would love to dive back into it. Everything about this MMO was great, except the combat...ugh combat drove me away.

Curious what this adjustment to the business model means for people with a lifetime sub like me. I adore TSW and played it religiously for 8 months straight. Looking forward to what Funcom is planning to do. Thanks for the post!

Biggest fear---free content is paid for how? F2P revenues? Can't wait to learn more.

I have really been getting back into the secret world lately and I've always thought that the one weak point of the game was the combat but it didn't stop me from playing. but hearing that there is going to be "major improvements to gameplay including combat" has me very excited :)

The Secret World : ARR ? I didn't get hooked by the first iteration, I'm curious to see what the've done to the game.

You know...it would be awesome if it got the same traction FFXIV did. The story and the idea behind the systems in the game are really good, its just overall clunky with the combat and such. I really hope it works out for this game.

I never had that much problem with the combat personally. Animations could have been better, but never a gamer breaker for me.
It really required a lot of time Investment to find the right synergies and create the right build for the right zone.

The one thing that made me quit though, was Tokyo. That was a too huge wall to overcome for me.
I hated it! The Whole Aegis system..... it was bad designed and implemented from the start. It really threw off a lot of people and I saw my heavily active Cabal disintegrating before my eyes at a rapid speed. It really made a lot of people quit!

If there is something they really need to overhaul to protect player retention, even with this relaunch, then it's the whole Tokyo experience!

Without addressing Tokyo, they can relaunch all they want. New and returning players will hit that huge wall again and quit.

This is exciting. This game had so much potential and I've played it plenty but never could stick around. There was a lot of cool and unique stuff but like others have said, combat and progression really needed improvement. The gear and skill systems are a bit confusing. I'd say they need to simplify some of it a bit while still retaining the freedom it has. The combat issues are a bit more obvious, though lol.

I think you are confusing this game with Anarchy Online lol.

I would really love to see this guys redo Anarchy Online. They just keep getting better and better :) Good Work Funcom!!

That's good news. I love the genre, and the atmospherics. Quest designs are great! Unfortunately, even after they improved TTK last year, combat still feels dull and awkward.

Took one look at the AEGIS system and rerolled.

Still hoping they'll create an awesome gameplay experience in that beautiful world...

It turned out to be an interesting game that was still just an instance-repeat gear grinder at the end. I hope they have different forms of advancement like ESO. Also, the pvp was messed up.

But I loved the atmosphere  and the quests. The writing for the quests and the characters you meet, I think, are better than in SWTOR or ESO.

I have a lifetime sub, too, so interested to see what they do with that.

Great game if they could just make combat better.  My number one issue was the boring combat.

I enjoyed the game up until I spent a day in tokyo.

I'm actually playing this game again atm cause of their challenge event.

To say it in short terms: Still a lovely atmosphere and story but the pvp and the optimization of this game are beyond repair.

Also we are talking about Funcom here.
Who actually thinks that a relaunch done by Funcom means more than putting a little band aid on their game spiced up with a few free items to lure in people?

A massive overhaul to core game mechanics like combat is very dangerous to do years after launch. You drive away the people who liked it the way it was, without picking up the people who would have liked the new combat, but played the game under the old, didn't like it, and quit.

Not interested unless they lose the stupid Aegis crap.

Why was this not done a long time ago? It might be too late.

Well we are talking about Funcom here so making the wrong move is pretty much par for the course.
