Elite: Dangerous News - Elite: Dangerous players have been Commanders for quite awhile, but now they can get a literal look at themselves on the PTR with the arrival of Commanders 2.3. Players will be able to utilize a new creator interface to give their Commander just the right look. In addition, when flying about, an avatar will also be displayed. Players can choose from preset Commanders or choose to customize it further.

    I was interested in giving the PTR a try but I heard you have to buy the beta.

    I agree. Between Star Citizen and Elite, since they both started at relatively the same time, I'll be interested to see what the attachment rate will be of the expansions for Elite versus how many people actually play and stick with SC once it's released. It's like a literal case study for development models.

    Seems like a good time to buy the Horizon DLC on the next sale since most of the features are finally added in.

    Some of this is down to the fact that they sold beta access perks as part of the kickstarter, some of it obviously down to making a bit of extra cash.

    But it is worth bearing in mind that if someone did buy beta access it also allows them to try all other betas during season 2. So at the maximum it's $3 for each beta.
