mmorpg for girls..?

Hi there, are there any mmorpgs people could recommend for, well, girls.  I realise this post sounds sexist and stereotypical, but its the best way I can think to describe what I mean -  games that aren't all about fighting. Maybe some kind of fantasy adventure that you might consider to be more of a "girls" game?

Thanks if anyone can help, I realise this is a pretty vague request!

(and I hope I havent offended the many many girls who don't like "girly" games, thats not my intention)

Not to forget the many many guys that don't like to be associated with being aggressive brutes only about fighting. =

But, you might like A Tale in the Desert. Or perhaps the upcoming Seed. You might like Puzzle Pirates too. Especially the latter is good fun for men and women of all ages.

MapleStory, perhaps? I know you're still fighting, but if you're into cute large-headed characters then you'll be into this.

don't worry, girls don't play MMO's therefore none will read this thread.

but err, the only 'girly' mmo i can think of would be something like the sims online (did it even get released? i heard about it but made myself forget about it).

i really, REALLY hope you're kidding. since i am FEMALE and i do GAME.

Sims Online seems to still be around. they also offer a free trial at their website.
    Sims Online

There.com is a more social MMO. i think they have a basic freebie thing going on. so you can try it out.
    There.com

Second Life is also a more social oriented MMO. i tried it and thought it was crap tho. but eh... not everyone likes the same thing.
    Second Life

i hope that helps a bit. if i think of any others i'll try to add them in.

but calling certain styles of games "girl games" really isn't a good idea. not ALL females like to play Barbie games and the likes. some of us like to frag with the best of them. some of us kick major butt in games.

and as for Hohbein... i just think you're a jerk for your sexist assumptions.

I recommend Ragnarok Online (www.ragnarokonline.com) it has a lot of things that girls like, like anime graphics (real one, not the fake ones like ROSE and flyff) and things like that. I played it for 2 years, and its without a doubt the game with the most girls playing.

40% of our guild in GW is female, and I know of plenty of female only guilds.

I think he is joking. It's because you hear all that talk about females, who are having problems playing MMO. A lot of 13 yeared old 1337 kids can't understand they are playing with girls, and will think it's just a boy acting like a girl.
I'm 17 and I do realize there's a fine percentage of girls playing. There is some boys though who will act like girls, and start cybering for loot or gold or such.

I don't think there is such a "girly girly" mmo. It's because there isn't really a game only appealing to girls, while not being barbies horseback adventures or the likes of it. I think there's MMOs that can appeal to you, and that lets you decide whether you would like battling or not.

Reita: I think toybox posted some good links for you to check out.

Well my gf has played WoW and liked it alot but then its not a "girls game" like you call it. Could only think of Sims Online I guess other then that you will need to fight.

My reply below is due to reading this post here quoted in its entirely.  I agree with toy to say that not all females play barbie games and the like.  we like quality games that are realistic and believable.  Not all of us make a female character to sit in front of and well..we all probably saw the video that I caught wind of. *laughs softly*

    Anyways..

*chuckles* When I saw this thread, I KNEW I had to post.

I'm a lady, not a 'girl'.  I've been MMORPGing for so long, I bought my husband the license plate MMORPG for our van! So...just struck you out of the water on that one my friend. *laughs*

Let's see...I played UO for 3 yrs until they messed up the set up of the game and the rares to the point I got frustrated and moved onto DAoC for another 3 yrs (since day 2), then they started to mess with the game adding expansions and when I reached 50 (the highest you can go there) I knew I needed something to catch my interest, so moved on to WoW where I am at now.

I beta tested The Sims Online (but personally, the beta was better than the game online so I didn't stay *laughs*)

I am very interested in Pirates of the Burning Seas 'when' it comes out, and if they could ever make a Vampire game that followed Christine Feehan's Dark Series, I'd be first in line.

So, do female gender play these games?  Yes, but then, careful in some games, because you have MEN playing FEMALE characters *laughs* which you won't realize until you can get them to talk to you on Ventrilo or Team Speak.  So that about sums it up.

I think it is personal choice as to what anyone would play.  I enjoyed UO classic, but hated 3rd Dawn where they made the woman look like Joan Crawford *laughs*.

    UO- Ultima Online

I enjoyed DAoC (Dark Ages of Camelot) as a Hibernian, Albion, and Midgardian, but didn't care that  they combined all three different role playing realms I was on at the time meshed into one.

But you were able to have a choice at many interesting races, and though I liked the "classic" look to what the game started with, I won't begrudge those who like the newer face styles they changed us to look like. (I just couldn't get my system to keep the classic look, and didn't care for the changed looks, as well as what they did with epic armor that should have been better than crafter made personally at the end.)

I did enjoy the cross rvr between the three different clans though from time to time, and the ability to pve in different places.  Though I did miss the rune books I had in UO to get me to travel quicker. *chuckles*

WoW I first bought then talked my husband into leaving DAoC to come join me for something different.  Still sort of the concept of RvR or...Alliance vs Horde, PvE, I think this was a game that came out for those who wanted something different than DAoC or EQ, so they combined the idea and took it one step further.

I'm now curious as to what they do with PoBS (Pirates of the Burning Seas) and have been watching their boards with anticipation.

And again, though I'm not into the normal Vampire games that just bite and kill for blood, if they actually take it further with a plausable storyline with good graphics, they might actually hook me into their web of the world of Vllad's time in the Carpanthian Mountains. *chuckles*

Oh, and my girl friend up in Rhode Island likes Half Life.

    My two cents worth anyways..

    ~| UO * TSO * DAoC * WoW |~

    Men are like fine wine.
Be sure to stomp on some of them, leave them in the dark,
and wait until they've matured enough to want to have dinner with them. *winks*

i would suggest FlyFF. Its an anime based game and lots of girls play.
  • RekindleRekindle Member UncommonPosts: 1,206

UO - Trammel - you can bank sit all day and not swing a sword or cast a spell.

Eve online in hi sec empire space (flame away but dont hijack her thread) .

You're not asking for a girl game persay, you're asking for a carebear game thats why lots of ppl are saying theres lots out there.

Just be patient lots more games coming that are very, very, very carebear.

Well, I know a lot of girls who play City of Heroes / City of Villains. There IS a lot of fighting in the game, but the game itself is colorful and has a sense of vivacity about it, the community is diverse, intelligent and willing to help, the powers are splashy and fun to look at and there are plenty of things beside fighting to keep you occupied for a long time. Collecting badges for different accomplishments, exploring different parts of a vast city, and, if you have both CoH AND CoV, you can build a superhero base or a villain's lair and decorate it as you see fit. Plus, there are different costumes you can obtain, and the character creation is a reward in itself.

Or the many guys like myself whose tastes were just referred to as girly ;)

A Tale in the Desert is nice if you have the time for it, otherwise there's always Ultima Online (not loving Ultima Online means you've given up on life in my book).
SEED is on its way.  I'm in the beta, and it's coming along nicely.  There's no fighting in the game and it's based around socializing and rebuilding your civilization.  Crafting tools and centraly stimulating jacuzzis are abundant!

I would also consider Pirates of the Burning Sea that should be coming out pretty soon and is set up nicely for some one who just wants to craft and socialize.

    mmorpg for girls...
    I cant think of any.

Lets try the other way around.

    mmorpg for boys...
    Cant think of any either.

Even if I could think of one, I would get flamed, insulted and bombarded with statistics which are manipulated and lacks the basics a statistic should be founded on. Besides nobody actually really cares, except for the singles.

Reita, a little good meaningful hint. This board had such a discussion just 1 or 2 weeks ago and it was 13 pages long. If you would want more information, than dont use your first post to creat again such a thread. Put a little research on it yourself. Most boards have a search function. In case you cant find it, here is the link:

    www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/72097

The topic is a little different than this one, but it will fit your purpose.

ah it just REALLY rubs me the wrong way. i'm very tired of males (not all) saying females do not game. that the only games they would play are The Sims and the likes. it's sexist and disgusting.

if he WAS joking then it was in poor taste. as a female i am insulted by his comment. i've spent too much time just sitting back and trying to let comments like that roll off of me. well enough is enough. it's tiresome. it's old. it's frustrating.

how are we, as female gamers, to move ahead and be accepted when guys like Hohbein slap us with insults?

    *sigh*

so i guess i'll be putting on my rant hat whenever i see a sexist comment from here on out.

    hrm...

actually it's more a rant suit of armour. ;P

oh yeh... and if SWG hadn't gone kinda belly-up. SWG would've been good for a "girly" sort of thing (for lack of better wording. blech.). you didn't have to do any fighting at all if you weren't into that. could take-up different crafting skills, just sit around and be social, take up entertainment professions. it's why i had two accounts. one for kickin' butt and the other to chill and be social as an entertainer. i kinda miss those days. oh how fun the krayt hunt was.
