Weapons breaking is more of a money sink than a difficulty mechanic, and it's not one that many people actually like, they just put up with it.

Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...

I just started playing this a few days ago, and must say it is amazing. The first game in a long while that I have trouble putting down for the night and then want to play as soon as I get up.

It does have some framerate drops in certain areas but otherwise it is truly a great game.

I did not buy a switch for it as I cant find one, but instead picked it up for the Wii U. After reading that there is really no difference i figured why not. I may end up getting a switch later on, but if you have a Wii U then I would not buy a switch just for this title. It was clearly made for the Wii U and held over to be a switch release title. It runs nearly identical across both platforms.

If you are planning on getting a switch or already have a wii U then this is a must play title for RPG fans IMO.

Would definitely play it if it wasn't on a console...

I HATE the weapons breaking in BotW. It's one of a few things keeping the game from perfection to me.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

This is the first Nintendo game I've felt compelled to play in years. The problem is I don't want to buy a Wii U or a Switch just for this game, and I haven't seen really any other compelling Switch games to further entice me :(

Weapons breaking is a nice RL feature. Items degrade over time. It is boring if you can constantly use an item knowing it can never break.

Looks great, won't be buying a new console to play.

    So tired of consoles.

I'm not sure I'd consider it boring if they don't break but I do like the feature and think items should require repair.

When did Excalibur break ? :) Stuff degrading in game just is a money sink to me not something fun. In RL u should have an easy time keeping your items in top shape for a lifetime why should everything break in game all 10 minutes. Just dont see it.

So what is the death panelty? Just reload your save? Main reason I ask is because from all the gameplay I have seen BotW looks boringly easy... as in you would almost have to fall asleep to get hit by anything.

I haven't played it, and aren't likely to short of a Switch 2.0, so I could be completely wrong, but outside of straight up nestalgia, or the game just not really doing anything too poorly, I really don't get where all the perfect scores are coming from for BotW.

You just said it. It's a money sink, that's why it's there.

well, if a player has Excalibur then one might see your point.

But since magic isn't real, I can accept that "magical" weapons might only pertain to their enchantment and not make them invulnerable to wear.

That's a minus point for me. I think it's one of the lamest ideas gaming has ever come up with, a weapon breaking in minutes of use and being totally unusable. Getting dull, becoming less effective sure. Sharpening stones are a thing. I hate how games let you do something for free on one hand, then penalize you with something stupid on the other.

For me the ONLY thing keeping the game from being perfect is the weapon degrading, it actively discourages you from using good weapons although it fits the setting perfectly.

But what a game, I thought Nioh would be my GOTY, Nier might perhaps still be it, but for now, my god this game comes close to perfection. The best open world game out there with so much refreshing features you are organically introduced to. Like using your shield to slide down a hill, or catching arrows with your shield so you can store them. It is insane, innovative and still has that Zelda charm. It might be my favourite Zelda actually, besides being my favourite open world and favourite survival game.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

I'll probably break down and get it for the Wii U.
My son bought a switch but uses his Wii U for streaming Netflix. I've talked him into using my Apple TV while I borrow his Wii U so I can purchase and play the game :)

    He's lives on his own.

Death penalties are just one big, incredibly big, annoyance, nothing more, nothing less.

They can be at times but if there's no penalty for death then where's the tension during combat?  If there's nothing to lose then why even bother?  There needs to be some cost to dying to keep things interesting.
    Heh

Lets develop a game where every time you die it costs you two bits. I guarantee you, the game won't be a cakewalk ;)

    edit:

    Meh...

I've already experienced that in the Arcades of my youth ;)

if you swing a sword it doesn't just Shatter into a million pieces (Usually) , it will get Dull and you need to Sharpen it back up or Repair it

Why couldn't the weapons just get dull and rusty , then your time Sink would be needing materials to repair said weapon

repairing your weapons instead of just breaking would be a lot better ^___^

its not a game you can say is good or bad until you actually PLAY it. watching vids doesnt do it. its a game you have to really play.
