Move over Matrix, a new champion of lousy MMO's takes over

admriker444admriker444 Member Posts: 1,526

I just had the misfortune of trying Face of Mankind. My review....

Tutorial - the only decent part of the game honestly. Basic stuff here.

Graphics - Umm, isnt this a new MMO ? Why are the graphics dated already ? I thought I had reloaded a cd from the mid 1990's. I had the settings maxed and 1600x1200 but it didnt improve at all. Basic PC or screaming monster and it still looks the same. Your avatar looks weird when he walks. Not nearly enough polygons, everything looks all blocky and plain.

Combat - can you say boring to the max ? This made even SWG's crappy FPS look good. Just basic click and fire, no strategy whatsoever unless you consider running a strategy. Whats worse is you MUST switch out of 3rd person view to go into combat mode.

Community - really nonexistent. I wouldnt be suprised at all if they had less than 5k subscribers which is amazingly bad considering the game is FREE to download and $12 monthly fee (cheaper than most). The few people I did run into had the same opinion of the game as I did....this is it ? Its a shame too because like the Matrix, this game could have been ideal for RP and mature crowd but the gameplay is just too lousy.

Crafting - about as simplistic as Ive ever seen really. To mine resources, you just go to a mining terminal and tell it what to mine. It does it for you. Thats all there is to it.

Death penalty - good grief, dont die in this game without an expensive clone insurance. You lose all of your gear except your gun I believe. It took me all day to earn enough to get a piece of armor (which didnt seem to help at all). I died and wammo armor was gone.

Quests - player created system just cant work if there arent any players around to make them.

character creation - not the worst Ive ever seen but pretty lousy for a new MMO. Picture AO or DAoC only not as good and you get the idea.

Overall a totally pointless MMO with absolutely zero to do. At least Matrix had missions to run to give you some direction. Dont get me wrong, I prefer open ended games but this was an open system inside a shoebox. Why and how this game managed to launch is beyond me. Surely the devs there knew its garbage.

I've been playing a trader for a few days and its an interesting game. All items are player created and the economy is player driven. No NPC vendors. I've been trying to mine some items on different planets but there always seems to be one person there that kills me..

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Spot on review. I tried it and I found it to be rather crap. Free download = go try it yourself, you never knwo you just might like it!

I've tried mmorpgs like WoW, EQ2, SWG (NGE crap now), CoV...
And I find them all pretty repetitive and too liniar.

Face of Mankind was the game that fits like a glove for me.
It has completely player driven economy, a rank system which consists of players, and player generated missions.

Your actions in the faction of your choice has concequences. You can't go around killing everyone you see if youre in the LED (cop) faction.

Damn good game if I might say so.

The graphics may be a bit outdated, but the dev team has done a splendid work doing patching every day since the release of the retail.

There may not be much action now (some streetfights here and there) because it's only the first week of the retail, as everyone is producing ammo and guns for their own faction (you can't start a war without ammo can you? :P ).

The company behind Face of Mankind is still exploring and integrating new payment methods as well (paypal and phone billing is on the chart atm).

I wonder what games you play these days, you can say much bad about fom, but how you describe the ''graphics'' I really wonder what you have been taking when playing. The lightening on a FEW places are bad, but that should be able to be fixed rather easily

Combat - can you say boring to the max ? This made even SWG's crappy FPS look good. Just basic click and fire, no strategy whatsoever unless you consider running a strategy. Whats worse is you MUST switch out of 3rd person view to go into combat mode.

Did you actually engage in combat? There is no such thing as ''CLICK and FIRE'' in FoM, you have to aim as in any other ''FPS''. And yes its a FPS remember, not a TPS. Once again, where have you been man...!!

When you wrote this, the game just got released, and it hasn't been advertised really. I 'HOPE'' the playerbase will increase, but you are right. Thats a weak point of FoM mainly atm

Crafting - about as simplistic as Ive ever seen really. To mine resources, you just go to a mining terminal and tell it what to mine. It does it for you. Thats all there is to it.

Seen the game is set 300 years from now, what do you expect? Most things even in real life now, get taken out of the ground using machines. I don't know why you want to mine with your hands in 300 years from now. Its ''SCI FI''

Death penalty - good grief, dont die in this game without an expensive clone insurance. You lose all of your gear except your gun I believe. It took me all day to earn enough to get a piece of armor (which didnt seem to help at all). I died and wammo armor was gone.

So you think 2 000 UC is a high amount of money? NOT MENTION YOU PAY THIS ONCE A IRL WEEK. You know that a mission pays out 10k, and in most factions is 30 minutes IRL time doing w/e you want. So if you can't go spend 30 minutes AFK in a mission and having 8k spare for the rest of the week ( I doubt its 8k, becuase missions can be made at any time, but ok...
And you just described that you want to see the game as a ''mmorpg'', yet you expect to get the best gear and get to kill everyone at day 1. Tell me in what MMORPG you start out with full sets of armour and are the best of the game. You earn your armour, you don't come in and grab all the stuff and start out fighting.

Quests - player created system just cant work if there arent any players around to make them.

There will be automated basic missions soon, but most of the time there is a player online to make missions. ( At least in my faction that is, voice comms like Ventrilo can help a lot, almost every faction has a ventrilo server running. Look on the forums or ask other players for the details. If there are rank4+ there, no doubt you get missions soon  )

character creation - not the worst Ive ever seen but pretty lousy for a new MMO. Picture AO or DAoC only not as good and you get the idea.

The lack of models is true, used to be a lot more before they updated their engine

Overall a totally pointless MMO with absolutely zero to do. At least Matrix had missions to run to give you some direction. Can't say any bad about your opinion, as its your opinion based on your experiences. Yet the things you said above where garbage aswell

    Face of Mankind is DIFFERENT!

if you're happy with WoW and clones, then its not a game for you.

if you want to test something new: join us ;)

    i agree with ya Smoker.

this is a brand new MMORPG that... yes it does need a few things diffrent, and a larger community, but those things will change in time. not everyone knows about this game and some people need to give it some time.

ive been playing this game sense 1 month from OB, and its had its ups and downs on things. if you are new to the game, dont give up the first day, things WILL get better, it always has.

The game has an huge learning curve to be honoust and you need to be
very social to get the fullest out of this game, and yes in the low
populated hour that game could be less becouse of the lack of mission.
You need them for the money as it is (beside making and selling stuff)
to get money in this game, but overall I like the comunity, roleplaying
is canstantly, however the game jsut started, offcourse the roleplay GM
could not start large roleplays yes, the economic need to grow (The
current was does help with that ;))

ALso...with game did you played in 1990, that must

    Hugo's House of Horrors

    game from 1990

Activity around the Ceres Delta vortex gates

    Face of mankind 2006

    See the differance?

The graphics look like they're from 2003, your mid 90's flame was a bit exessive.

Combat is one of the greatest things about FoM.  Not just a point and click, you actually need skill, which im sure you lack in this case.

Community - really nonexistent. The community before the release was massive.  Im sure once the game gets its fixes more people will come.

Crafting - about as simplistic as Ive ever seen really. To mine resources, you just go to a mining terminal and tell it what to mine. It does it for you. Thats all there is to it.
No comment.  Never got into crafting much, but you have to remember this isnt a middle ages mmo, its futuristic.  ( making drugs is fun :)

Death penalty - good grief, dont die in this game without an expensive clone insurance. You lose all of your gear except your gun I believe. It took me all day to earn enough to get a piece of armor (which didnt seem to help at all). I died and wammo armor was gone.
This is one of the greatest parts of the game.  Armor is really inexpensive if you craft or get contracts that pay 500k.  Killing your worst ememy and taking his loot couldnt feel better.

Quests - player created system just cant work if there arent any players around to make them.
Missions is what they give.  Potrol, attack, defense, and production.  They have decent pay but other than that theres not much.

character creation - not the worst Ive ever seen but pretty lousy for a new MMO. Picture AO or DAoC only not as good and you get the idea.
This game isnt a major MMOPG is what you have to understand.  I personally like the FoM character creation because you could easily make your character stand out from others.  Sure there might be people that look just like you, but in what mmorpg might that not happen?

Overall a totally pointless MMO with absolutely zero to do. At least Matrix had missions to run to give you some direction. Dont get me wrong, I prefer open ended games but this was an open system inside a shoebox. Why and how this game managed to launch is beyond me. Surely the devs there knew its garbage.
Im sorry you played the game for 30 minutes.  You really have no idea what FoM is capable of.  The freedom that you are granted is unbelievable.  Becomming most wanted, breaking out of jail, hacking enemies coloneys, massive coloney raids, the skill combat system, apartments, sweets, penthouses,  Squad headquaters to train in, arresting gankers, drugs that make you better :) .  I just dont see how you can say FoM is a pointless mmorpg.

I have been playing face of mankind for 13 months before release, it is an outstanding mmorpg.

A game made even AFTER mid 1990s, like in year 2000+

    And its a famous game

    Face of mankind

Also its in JPG format, making images look worse. If u have a good pc u see pretty nice graphics IMO, maybe they need better lightening on the chars tho

he's right on "there's nothing to do" tho rainbowz

+ I liked the game way better when they updated the light blue HUD into the classy greyish stuff ( still with old character models) .. with the last update there with new models n armor ... they just screwed it over  , shooting got buggy n crappy not to mention UNFUN
