Game wise I want depth, challenge, and a fear of death. What I hope is that I can bring along a few old friends, make some new friends, and play a game where ties of friendship are necessary for success. I think the social aspect is at least 50% of what it takes to make a great game.
I'm hoping for a game with an awesome and comptetive community that will last for 4+ years. A game where you can make a name for yourself whether it be for being an uber elitist, notorious PvPer, or just a really nice player.
I want Vanguard to bring back the sensibilities of the first few years of EQ (up through LDoN). I want PLAYER SKILL to matter!!! I want character classes that are difficult to master. I want skills to be class specific and not shared via slightly altered versions of the same thing. I want slightly harsh death penalties. I want to have to travel (no magic teleporters whooshing me all over the place). I want a game where your reputation as a player matters and people take responsibility for thier actions (or risk not being able to get groups). I want a game where soloing isnt for every class (yay necromancer) and takes a fair amount of skill to do (quad kiting anyone?)
First off let me start by stating that I was an active member of EQ for 5 years. I liked the structure of that game both socially and strategically. After having played WoW since release until now I can safely say that the ability to solo from 1 to max level has caused the social aspect to be lost. What I mean by that is that not having to rely on others to get to the end of leveling/raiding people do not have any sense of community and all that remains is a sense of self. I would like to see how this game progresses and have signed up for the beta testing for it as well. More content is good as waiting for respawns on raid mobs was one of the things I liked least in EQ. Being forced to rely on others to aid in your progression might also instill a bond with other players as well. Seamless environment looks promising as well. I don't mind an initial load time but extensive zoning and such was also one of the things I liked least of EQ. Seeing that some of the original developers of EQ involved in this project and being backed by Microsoft I expect an above average experience. So to sum it up so far from what I see posted on this I like:
1. Seamless environment
2. More content
3. Having to rely/trust the accompaniment of others for progression.
4. Challenges both in normal and end game experience.

Then im sorry to inform you that vanguard is not your game: Vanguard is a pve game, and while it's true that there will be pvp servers, it's going to be more limited than pvp games.
Vanguard pvp is going to be like EQ pvp with better class balance at least by release(they will add more options and server types if the pvp servers are very popular).
I just read the "leaked" April beta newsletter linked from the Vanguard forums. This game seems to be developing so nicely! Lots of depth and variety. Combat looks complex. I am going to concentrate on an explorer character at first but may just try crafting after awhile, depending on how it goes.
I'm hoping they stay true to their vision, sounds mooshy but I'm coming from the Lords of Betrayal folks at SWG, so however these guys want the game to be, thats what I want to see. I hate to bring up the juggernaut WOW, but part of their success has to be, they are still what they started out to be.
And finally, I'd sort of like experiencing the Vanguard world to be like experiencing the ES: Oblivion world is: immediately immersive, fun, wondrous. It looks like Vanguard has the elements to be wondrous.
I hope this game lives up to the open-ended gameplay of pre-CU swg. Fear of death, starting out and first realizing the huge complexities of the game, awesome PLAYER DRIVEN ECONOMY, along with the dynamics of (on pvp servers) guild diplomacy and conflict. I love the politics between rival guilds (not stupid "we pwned you" crap).

Great, I want that too. Also, I want lots of hidden and hard to find dungeons, loot and locales. EQ was great for that! There were just so many freaky places with rare spawns and hard to figure out quests. Basically I want to get lost in a rich, unnervingly harsh world.
I am anticipating Vanguard SOH to be one of the greatest MMORPG's.... I dont know why its just a feeling I have every time they realease info/screenshots of the game. I just want the games PVP to be balanced and rock... I really want them to have the best PVP system I have ever seen.

Hell yes I do. It was so dangerous, finding a raid for it was so hard. Breaking in was a dangerous pain in the butt and I loved ever second of it. And yes the portal was just so dang kewl, I loved all the things like that to discover in EQ. I miss it terribly.
I want it to be like EQ where when you traveled to Kunark it felt like a long journey and I FELT like i was far away when i got there...i love that feeling . I just hope players get the feeling of a journey.
What I am looking for in Vanguard is a great community first off, I miss the start of EQ. I would like to have that feeling of a sort of bond with my toon. Knowing that this is something I worked hard on and others can see what I have done.
I want immersive cities, not just a clutter of nameless npc's, but a reason to be in town such as World of Warcraft while in town you earn double experiance. The EverQuest 2 cities were awful, just filled with lag ridden npc's, the voice overs however where very nice. I want free standing buildings, that players own.
I want a player verse player roleplaying server, or one that will be (soon to be pvp server) next to it if PvP is not ready by time of release. I want to be able to buy clothing for my horse, and myself that isnt just stat armor, but more for looks.
I want to be able to dye my chars clothing, this makes individuality. I want to see vast ocean travels, and deserted islands with treasure, or a ship wreck on the coast.
What i'm looking for is a mixture of all the big mmo;s on the market currently and some new fresh ideas. x_D
An endgame that doesn't consist of 20+ players in one area stroking each other. A storyline that never ends. The dry spell of good MMOs to end. Too much to ask for?
I want pretty much most of the things that was said, but what I really want is a MMO that is reliable and stable with as little offline downtime as possible.

In the MMO*s I've played lately, death is a very ho-hum event. I want to fear death.
2) Immersive world
I want to be able to explore. I want to see a world where I can get lost for days.

I want Vanguard to be what EQ2 was not.

All ur Mountain Dew is belong to me.
A large seamless gameworld that I can explore top to bottom -- a world so large that I can get lost in it (scary) or get killed while lost (scarier).
Having mounts, boats and eventually flying mounts available to players (but very limited teleporting).
Needing others to adventure with increases the chances of socializing and making friends (or enemies).
Having a home (fun) which can be damaged or destroyed (risky but fun).
Casual (solo), small group and raid possibilities -- all good.
Finding a particular class that is best suited for your abilities and potentially becoming recognized as a "master" of your class (or classes).
(And hoping the beta testers in collaboration with the developers will deliver a solid game at release.)

In a nutshell, I want a world my character can LIVE in not level in.
I'm hoping for no exp bonus vitality crap, I find myself making too many characters... and I just want to play one.
Specific server rules,
To be impressed, vastly impressed, not just the usual roleplaying and PvP servers.
But I don't believe it will 'really happen'.

I want it to have the attraction of EQ, the crafting of Horizons, the Fun of DAoC and the inspiriation of Sigil.
But most of all I want it to have player events and GM events, to involve us all, regardless of what sphere of gaming we coming from.
Oh and a in game coffee machine, so I do not have to keep making them.
