Another game doomed to failure...

espaytonespayton Member Posts: 4

This game looks so great and interesting!

TO bad that the Main/normal character thing will single handedly ruin this game. It seems like they had half of an idea going and then decided to do everything they could to try to make it work. Sometimes ideas just arent good.

There are way to many reasons to state them all as to why choosing a main or a normal character will ruin the game. If anyone thinks that it wont... give a reason, and then i'll promptly prove you wrong.::::::28::

Well whats wrong with it? I like it, people who want to keep respawning cna pic ka reg, and people who are willing to take a risk for greater power will pick a main.

example only a main can be a guild leader, now before you go "oh thats BS" look at the good side, you can actually be an assasin in this game and people will actually hire you to kill guild leaders, its a good risk and i like it :)

Why not tell me whats wrong? if you don't want to perma-death then pic ka regular if you want more power such as owning a guild pick a main

How about you start by telling us WHY it's a bad idea, instead of saying "It's a bad idea, because it is."

Its a balance issue. They will not be able to maintain a pseudo balace in the gaming community but as for the individual people there will be no balance.

In these examples we'll just say that half of the people are useing Main characters and half are using regular characters.

" I like it, people who want to keep respawning cna pic ka reg..."
Yes, people who dont want perma death get to respawn. They get to respawn over, and over, and over, and over because half the people in the game will always be able to kill them at will simply because they chose a different character type. If you play a regular character you'll be underpowered and will never accomplish what those over powered characters can do.

" ...and people who are willing to take a risk for greater power will pick a main."
Based on what they have laid out as of now, if you play a main you ARE going to die perminatly. Why might you ask? Because if you loose in pvp (And i've never played a game where i havent lost atleast once) they can PERMINATLY TERMINATE your character. Now, why would someone do that to me when they have a CHANCE to get more fame by letting me live? They will kill you because they can. Because they want too. They will kill you because this way they dont have to worry about you coming back to kill them. They will kill you because they get MORE fame right off the bat by doing so.

They are turning the entire game into one HUGE imbalance. General rule of thumb is your character should be as good as you make it, or at least as good as the time and dedication you put into it by means of creative skill placement or simple grinding.

They have made horrible side effects for playing either a main or a reg. That doesnt make them even, it just makes them both shitty.

Theres nothing wrong with having perma death in a game, but they've created a completely unbalanced system just so they can have perma death in their game.

The regular's the safe route. Normal character, can only kill other regulars, some other restrictions (can't lead a guild), but you live long enough to get to the higher levels.

The main's can perma-kill other mains if they choose to. Sure, if an enemy guild member comes at you, you'll kill him. But if it's some stupid bar fight, a fight over a piece of loot, the average person won't kill another player. I know a lot of people are freaking about how it'll just be a bloodbath. Griefers will rule the game, killing any new player that tries to start. From what I've seen, the vast majority of people are in large guilds that will kill these kinds of people.

If your only playing to get the highest level skill and the best items, sure the restricitons might suck. But that's not why most people are playing. We like the idea that you could be killed at any second. In the middle of nowhere, a spy in the guild, whatever. It's a game that forces you to rely on others, even when you can't trust them.

It's not about dedication to a restricted character, it's the dedication to your guild. No one person will rule the game. It will be the guilds. Your character might be restricted, but if you use that character to make the guild strong... Your crafters get better, your city gets better protection, your army gets bigger. That's what will be important.

So your saying that the only way to play the game is to be in a guild.

You cant get around it, the game is going to fail miserably.

Anything said about this game is purely speculation at this point.

As it stands now it is risk vs. reward. Regulars can "knock out" mains, they just can't deliver the finishing blow. The game is twitch based, with character skill coming in second. Any Reg with somewhat similar character skills can take a main with less twitch skill. I can't stress this enough, it's a TWITCH BASED GAME. Player reflexes are going to go a LONG way in determining the winner of a fight.

Sure people can run around guildless if they want to play that type of character, but they probably won't live as long as someone with friends that have their backs. It's an MMO, it's a social game. Just because you or others don't like the way the game is set up doesn't mean there are plenty of others out there that love the setup. It's all personal preference.

I for one am going to wait to see how the game plays before I go spouting off how the game is doomed to fail. A bit premature at this point to be a Negative Nancy don't you think?

Well, he's hanging around a forum for a game that he has no faith in. I doubt he cares what's happening with the game, he's just looking to kill time.

The system used in the chronical assumes that complete balance isn't needed in a game. You assume that a game needs to be balanced as close as possible and at this time that's the structure that most company's follow. Chronicals system as explained so far doesn't utilize the saftguards that most games do, but claiming that the game will fail because of that is pure conjecture at this point. There certainly a market for less handholding within a game system and the game won't be for casual players, but this game isn't meant to be a one shot get who who can and hold them there as long as possible market. Or, at least that wasn't the original concept they seem as if they may be back tracking to a safer concept.

YES!!!! Finally a game that isn't balanced perfectly....

Life is life...and it's not balanced....

If you're a little gnome who hasn't mastered the fireball yet and you see a big troll you should probably crap yourself and run away...

But in most MMORPGS they balance the hell out of every race and class so they are all the same just look different.....that's crap

I want differences that actually challenge to actually PLAY the game and actually THINK about what I am doing instead of just point click kill point click kill point click killpoint click kill point click kill point click killpoint click kill point click kill point click killpoint click kill point click kill point click kill....

Sometimes....you need to be point "OH HOLY CRAP" and runnnnn!

With the concepts, design, and all ideas "the Chronicle has laid the foundation to become the best fantasy MMORPG available." I do think that. So far i dont have any other game to compare with the ideas and concept that The Chronicle has. TC is a challenge that LOT Playerss will take, TC has had its problems like those delays, but, 80% of all MMORPG in development have their delayes, one more than another, but they have. And dont forget how ambitious TC its, thats why its taking more, because it is VERY DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS EVER. IT TAKES LOT MORE TO BE INNOVATIVE.

Not to mention the game will most likely have main only servers or regular only servers. If so, I'll probably play the game. The only thing that kept me playing diablo 2 for so long was hardcore mode... The only thing that got me off it was the rampant hacking/tppking etc etc.
